ill get right to the point
this is how i normally uninstall/reinstall new ATI drivers in XP:
1. control panel, add remove, ati catalyst uninstall utility, restart
2. upon startup, cleanup residual files in windows/system32 +/drivers (i have read many helpful tutorials that suggest this)
some files recreate themselves but thats just windows doing its thing
3. cleanup registry with regcleaner, removing ati entries
4. occassionally i will run hardware manager and remove any remnance of unused hardware(duplicates of my monitor etc)
5. then i obviously install the new drivers, very straight forward, restart
now my only concern is what happens between step 1 and 2
when windows starts up after the old drivers are uninstalled, it automatically detects "VGA controllers" and "radeon 9800 pro" etc etc
now ive read several tutorials that say we're supposed to cancel all such operations
however, in xp i cant figure out how to; everything seems to just install automatically.. the only thing im ever prompted for is my plug and play monitor, which i cancel
what am i doing wrong?! can you take me through your method
thanks :bounce:
