Hi there, I am having major problems with my Sapphire x800 PRO, i am worried that the card might be damaged.

yesterday i reformatted my computer because it was getting old and had many issues. One of these problems was the fact that the graphics card drivers continued to crash during gameplay, especially in half-life 2.

I reformatted my computer and installed the latest version of Windows Media Center 2005. It was a clean install and went well. Obviously after reformating i was installing all the latest drivers. I went to the ATI web site and downloaded the latest version of the catylst for Windows Media center.

Hoping all my problems were solved I went back to re-complete Half-Life 2, the same thing happend, the game pauses i get a horrid message saying ATI driver has crashed "sh**" i thought to myself same ruddy problem. The game continues to play however why is it doing this, i feel it cant be good. i have tried other catylst drivers and the same problem happens is there a problem with my card?

I have listed my specs below:

3200AMD ATHLON
x800 PRO
1024 GIG RAM
NF7-S mother bored

Before getting Media center, what did you run on the thing? XP my theory is that its Media center wich MS has tampered with..

By the I have heard of problems with that mb (I think) and running dual channel that might be worth pursuing

also it could be a heat problem try checking your temperatures.

"Before getting Media center, what did you run on the thing?"

slighty confuzed on "the thing" but i will try and answer your question at any rate.

Yeah media Center 2005 is XP, just improved for media (suprisingly) it has some cool screensavers like aquariums, me as a digiTV user its great for watching video, listening to music and watching DVD's, i wouldent pay so many £ or $ or euros for it, 'cause its not that much different. it has a flashy new toolbar and desktop backgrounds. like a more modernised XP, personally it looks allot better, but not for the money. I only got it free because Microsoft give us this package (only for business only) to test and try out.

Any way thanks for the help, i am getting some cooling stuff for xmas, i hope that will fix my problems.

Oh and another thing. i removed the Catylst Controll Pannle and just left the 4.12 drivers and so far so good, its bound to go wrong soon though. That makes me think it might be a over heating problem, I just hope that the card isn't dammaged or nuffin'

Cheers for help.

only just understood the "Before getting Media center, what did you run on the thing?" sorry off ill today :\

i ran on XP MEDIA 2005 but it was all currupt

First thing you need to tell us is if your other games work. If they do then look at HL fixes, if not then :/

I don't like that new control panel. Anyway, I have a suspicion it was using "Catalysy AI", which I've heard can make HL2 unstable. Can anyone test / confirm this, or was it all a dream?

lol.

i just been playing call of duty at 6x aa and 16x AF at 1280x1024, now, I am not sure if this game will normaly run at this level or if it is made to run at this level, however i experienced graphical curruptions on glass, and sometimes flashing textures and one game crash which reverted me back to the desktop and the display was exsreamly bright. like i said i am not sure if this game will run at this level.

the problem also occured in UT2004 at high AA and AF levels, game runs very smooth, just crashes. UT2004 experiences no graphical curruptions,or so i've seen. instead just crashes and reverts back to desktop with error message

note the glass in COD is multicoloured and flshing texture in corners, these flashing texture might only be a few pixles.

Now is this a fault on my card? a overheating problem? etc.

My card does feel hot, but i am not sure how hot a graphics card should get. i dont think i can measure the temp of my sapphire x800 pro because i believe it comes with no thermonitor.

I hope this is a overheating prob only beacuse it is fixable, although i would prefer it not a damaged card, i would rather know and replace it.

Cheers

i have a x800xt and the control center ****s my card up all the time, the control panel though is fine, game runs shits for me though

oh yeah specs similiar to yours x800xt,p4 3.2,1gb ddr2 ram

hummm
thanks for the replies jimbo. good card, ATI need to get there arses in gear. tahnks again for reply

I uninstalled the Control Center shortly after I'd installed it. It's woeful. How on earth could ATi get awat with putting that out as an official release?

so thats it. ATI users are bust on Call Of Duty, UT2004 and all other n vinda games? i actualy now hate ATi

no prob mate,my other games run fine though h2o,cod,fc.maxpayne2 etc,hl2 just plays terrible,30 fps about, lowest was 12,settings are all maxed with 1280/960 res,4aa ,8af(was 16,recommended was 8aa but never listen to recommended settings as their usually bs,fc recommended me for everything at low lol, but after woeful fps in hl2 i dropped to 8)v-sync on,the really weird thing is i remember the first time i played the game i bumped everything up,res 1600/1024 or wateva the highest and the game wss flying,no slowdown, all gr8,once i loaded up water hazard it dropped completely, had to scale back my res 5 ****in times and it still ran shit, dont really play the game much anymore coz its so bad, dont even ask about mp

hummm,

u tried reformatting, that would really help. mabye reverting to a older catylst. if that dosent work then you should send your card back, get a 6800GT. If you are using XP do the following

Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore

Go back in history until you find a good restore point. If you want go all the way back until when you started the computer. Some restore points wont work but thats windows which is f***ed.
thats worth a try.

have you got a adware remover, registery cleaner, or spyware remover? if not there essential. try removing the ATI drivers fully and starting again.

Have you ran a memory check to see if your memory isn't faulty?

I am no expert but give these things ago and they might work. Refomatting should sort out and software problems.

To me your card is either badly damaged, or reformating will work.

Good Luck, its worth a try. you might find just basically uninstalling your graphics card and reinstalling it might work.

have a blast!

Other ideas, try a new driver, I am currently considering OMEGA drivers...
