ati have begun plugging half life

Did the alcatraz event already take place then? Was it the infamous ATI-power demonstration?

two or three weeks after alcatraz, thats about the time evereyone hoped for...

those numbers are the "rumours" they don't know for sure, and said they won't untill ati tells them.

i wonder if the 9800XT+half-life 2 package will be available IMMEDIATELY upon the release of half-life 2. i want that package, and can afford it, but do not want to wait to buy the game because of it.

$399.00 is a great price if that includes the brand new 9800XT + HalfLife2 full game ?
I hope ATI.com puts up preorders for this :)

So like this week or next week we should be able to buy this combo from ATI's site ?

Two things I hope for, that this combo deal is really ready to be in my hands on 30th, not just announced then. And also that the 9800XT has some hardware improvements made to it, like I have heard, it's NOT just a clock speed increase :)

maybe, but im almost 100% sure you wont have any graphical extras if you use a 9800xt. Hl2s graphical features are bound only to the DirectX version. A better shader processing unit or so may be included though. but that will only speed up the game, not more.

you are correct, I just want the game to play HalfLife2 at my regular settings for all my shooters, which is 1280res, all game options maxxed, and either 2x or 4x FSAA + 8xAF.

My system is a P4-2.4ghz cpu, 1gb ddr400 memory, MSI 845E motherboard, Audigy soundcard, etc..
Would like to add the 9800XT to this :)

As it is now, a P4-2.8ghz + 9800-Pro can only play the game descent at 1024res, with like 60fps + >? Isnt that the test system from the recent benchmarks ?

So bring on more power we'll need it, and dont forget Mulitplayer, imagine the Source engine in huge battles with 30+ people

my standards are 1024 res on a 19" monitor, with an athlon 3.06, 1024 ram with a radeon 9800 pro 128 ram. No anti aliasing etc. I guess hl2 is gonna run ok with all graphics to the highest.

Any new news on the press release tonight?

I'm pretty sure if it's about the Half-Life 2 release date there would be about 20 posts in the forum within 2 minutes of it being released.

What about this form now? Is that a competition or just a newsletter to notify us when the card is out? Because that ad just flows over with details...

Yea. no doubt. And if PlanetHalfLife doesnt have any info on the conferance, you will know that HL2 is gonna be here on the 30th :)

The Alcatraz event is scheduled for Sept 30, right?? (at least according to PlanetHalfLife.com), so that means that Half-Life 2 will launch there, as well as the new card and the bundle. I'd figure the game will be released right away, but the card and bundle would take a few weeks longer.

Hmmm ... isn't these kind of announce events held like some days before the release?

S'pose. But they should do something fun and festive on the day of release as well.

Seems the ATI page doesn't like Opera's Flash support (or just my computer), as it only loads the GIF substitute. Flash shows up in Explorer fine.
yea, i noticed that too, wish more websites would code them properly to be 100% compatible with other browsers :/

tbh the last week has made me doubt if HL2 will be on time (30 september) its weird that Valve still hastn said anything about the MP or even about HL2 going nearly gold...i mean...it should be happening any time now

Yup. Browser-specific coding should be a war crime. Or at least make the webster get a nasty rash.

And, all signs point to...
GOLD!!!
(but then, I'm easily excited)

They've said countless times that they want as much of the game as possible to be a surprise for their fans, so they're keeping things like multiplayer and other specifics pretty close to their chest. As for not announcing that the game is almost gold, when's the last time you've ever heard a company announce something like that? There's also the (remote) possibility that the game has already gone gold and Valve, in characteristic fashion, has kept things quiet. Then you have the rumor that Vivendi will make a formal Half-Life 2 release date announcement sometime this evening.

We'll know when we know. No use fretting about it.

For reasons I've specified here: http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7447

I don't think Vivendi are going to make a press release.
