ATI HL2 Offer and CD Keys......confused

I recently brought a 9600XT. Great little graphics card with a coupon telling me that I qualified for a copy of HL2 when it was released. I read the details on the ATI website the coupon pointed me to and decided that I'd prefer to have the game via the Steam system rather than wait many weeks for a posted CD to arrive (and have to pay postage).

So far so good. I downloaded the steam installer (thank god for broadband or it would have taken a couple of days....) and executed the program. At this point I was expecting to have to enter my vouchers CD key so that I could qualify for HL2 and the 'premium package' of steam. However the install program said that it had detected a previous installation of Halflife (the 'platinum package'?) and that this qualified me for free use of steam.

My question is this. How will I get my free copy of HL2? I am guessing that every user of steam won't get it free automatically but I don't see a way of entering my voucher cd key as it already has my old HL1 cd key.

Also the voucher says this offer is only valid up until the games official retail release date. Therefore if I don't somehow enter the CD key off this voucher before then I screwed.

Any insights would be appreciated.

I was hoping to put this question on the steam forum as well but 24 hours after registering I'm still waiting for the registration to be validated by a moderator........................

Are you aware that Half-Life 2 is not yet available and won't be for 4-5 months?

You will be able to enter your key when either HL2 or the Premium Pack gets released...

Same here

I am haveing the same exact problem here too. there should be a way to upgrade your cd-key (for ocassions such as this and for when we buy new games) I don't want to create a new account just so my steam can recognize the games I own.

How are you getting on with your new XT card? I have upgraded my card to the XT and installed steam and like I said in my initial post I couldn't get it to accept my voucher key. According to the recent "sticky" note on the steam forum this shouldn't be a problem as we will be able to enter our voucher key when HL2 is available. However I have come across another problem....

I decided to have a go at playing HL again last week and I've noticed that I have a band about a quarter of the way down the screen that seems to have a graphics lag when I move around quickly in HL. Very annoying. I've tried different resolutios etc. but its still there. It's also there in OF. Not sure if its due to a dodgy driver on my graphics card or a consequence of moving over to Steam. Have you noticed anything similar? Couldn't spot any recent postings about this issue so don't know if its just me

That band you're talking about may be a "tear" (MAY be. I'm not sure.) To get rid of this turn on V-Sync by going into Properties by right-clicking on your desktop and then going to Settings-> Advanced. Then go to the tab for your Video Card and there should be an option somewhere for V-Sync. Turn it on. I hope this helps.

will the ATI voucher get you a full single player and multiplayer copy of the game when its released? Basically, will you get a valid online key, or will the copy of the game that is sent to be the full version?

the game is the FULL version. its not a single player only version. it is the FULL game. Single and Multi player. I too have updated to a 9600 XT but i dont get it till the 15 of jan which sucks. i cant wait.

see i have this problem i recently bought the 9600 XT card.I have got the HL2 key.I know that there is the value premier pack.I wanted to order the pack.I can pay through the credit card but i wanted to know whether i would have to pay for hl2 when it comes out also.

Will i have to pay for the Value premier pack as well as for HL2(when it comes out)

I'm in the UK, and I'm goin to order the ATI 9600XT with HL2 coupon, but wanted to know what I do with the coupon?

Will I have to take it to a store? or use it online? or are both these possible?

:smoking:

When HL2 comes out (or about a week before hand when they start taking orders), you just go to www.steampowered.com, download the 500k Steam-only installer, create an account (or login to your existing one) double-click the HL2 icon in the Steam games list, and it'll prompt you to put in your ATI Key. Do so, and it'll confirm you're allowed to play it, then let you start downloading.

See If I Order "value Premier Pack"
Then Do I Have To Again Order For "hl2" When It Comes Out.

Please Help

No, if u order the premier pack, u get the premier pack, then when hl2 comes out u download it. With the coupon, HL2 is free. U dont need to order it. Unless by order u mean, send in ur coupon and have them post u a copy. But HL2 doesnt cost you if u have the coupon.

On another note, the guy i ordered my card from said that i wouldnt get a coupon, cause the bastard sold out so we ordered it after december. So im getting an ASUS 9600 XT 128 MB DDR VIVO, when it gets here. Which should be a few days.

Thanks a lot man.I Hope you get your graphics card as soon as possible. I might not download it as here in India if you download a game it will take ages as there is no broadband
