ATI levels

whats the deal with this? ppl are saying that this could be the suprise, i was just wondering if they will only run on ati hardware cos that would be uber ghey!

1 gig pc 3200 ram
44gig hd space
gf 6800 vanilla 256 meg

will these levels run on my machine? im not showing off id just like to kno. also if anyone has a link to the details of these "ati levels" that would be much apperitated (sp?)

I think it will run on your pc, in the NVidea 6xxx and ATI Xxxx there isn't a big performance difference between ATI and NVidea. Here you can find benchmark results which show that HL2 runs just as good on the highend NVidea cards as on its highend ATI counterpart.

there is no way they could do more than legally require that only one brand of video cards could run a set of levels. And as it happens, nVidia supports more features in it's current generation of video cards than ATI, so I think it near impossible to make special "ati only" levels. They may be a special sponsored by Ati, but not much more than that.

Of course they are just sponsored by Ati... It's pure marketing, not least because of the fact that the options to change levels of detail will still exist and therefore make them playable for anyone!
These boards scare me sometimes at how much of the population realy are just idiots.

Like some people have been saying, it's probably some kind of amends-making deal from VALVe to ATI because VALVe kinda messed up on the Alcatraz whatsit and because the game that was "bundled" with ATI's cards came out a year after those specific cards were being sold, if I remember the info in that article correctly...

Gotta say I feel sorry for VALVe. I know what it's like to mess something big up and have people mad at you... as do most people, I imagine...

erm I'm still not sure what you all mean by ATI levels...ok I gather they're some sort of ATI sponsered new maps or something...but that makes no sense. Or is it true? Are these sp maps or dm? What's going on dammit??

I hate to be out of the loop, so has Valve released when the ATi levels will be released? And if so, when are they coming out?
Oh, and to everyone who's said that they can't make it specifically work for ATi cards: Wrrrong. HL2, as with any other program (when implemented) can check your graphics card, so they just have to make it check if your card is an ATi during installation, and if not, abort install. Simple as that.
