ATI or nVidia?

I know there was a similar topic like this a while ago asking which Video card was better and ATI had about 75% and nVidia had 25% but I think it was because of the FSAA problem that people chose ATI over nVidia but now that the problem has been fixed on all the cards which is the better one now? Sorry if this is too much of a similar topic and please don't start any flame wars I want to know which card is better because I'm planning on getting a new one in the next month or two. So what do you think?

P.S. What are the best ATI and nVidia cards out right now that are under $400?

There is hardly any difference between the two, basically a few frames here and there, get whichever you wish. They will both run hl2 like a charm i'm sure. I myself have a 9800 pro, doesn't mean I wouldn't get nVidia though.

Chris_D I think he means that ATI has better picture quality than nVidia, not that nVidia won't be able to do FSAA in hl2.

I think he means in general you will get more frames with FSAA on from an ATI card at the same res than with an Nvidia card. I don't pretend to understand why but with past benchmarks as the res goes up ATI usually out-performs.

ATI is teh best, IMO. I downloaded nVidia's drivers and it slowed my games down like crazy.

Well now that I think of it, wait to buy a new video card until hl2 is about to be released. Seeing as how Valve is going to release a benchmark before hl2 is released, i'm sure people are going to post scores of how well cards do. So base your decision off of that.

Depends what you want to buy.

I can't afford to fork out a fortune for a great big top-o-da-line graphics card that'll be out of date in a few months, I just wanted something midrange, because they tend to be the best value in the long run.

For lower/mid end, nVidia hold the torch at the moment. My Asus Geforce FX5600 128Mb would beat the pants off of an ATI card of the same price, but the Radeon 9800 256Mb top of the line is the best of the lot; if you can afford it.

If you have money to burn, go ATI.

If you're poor or just miserly, go nVidia.

Just wait 'till the Radeon 9900 comes out; the 9800 price will drop like a stone.
