WHY? you obviously know nothing about them, and how Halflife 2 was made for ati cards more than any of nividia's. So shhhhhhh. I have a powercolor 9600XT, works like magic, but thats different to yours. (btw i get 100 fps on CS with top settings if you care)

That really shows your wealth of knowledge, well done :|

GeForce is simply superior. Though I can't deny HL2 is more intended for ATIs, but it'll perform excellent on GeForce too.

The difference is the mem speed. The 9600Pro runs at 300Mhz x2 and the 9600Pro EZ runs at 200x2. You could try and OC the card or just see how it does when HL2 arrives. Have a look at benchmarks and see what the differences in speed are, you'll probably find the gap isn't big.

You could sell it on eBay and get a better card. I got a 9800Pro for £100!

I go on Overclocking/performance forums a bit and i can tell you, the majority of people there get better 3d mark scores with ATI's (the majority, not all of them but its clear the ATI out shines Nvidia)

Put that in your pipe and smoke it :smoking: lol

Well, one of the things about ATI/Nvidia is that the judgement is also subjective. Yes, there's reliance on objective data, benchmarks and differences between the two card types, but there's also subjective opinions from what everyone personally has experienced with the cards.

how..the hell....do you get 100 fps/!?11/1!? I got a 9600XT and I get 40 avg on medium....2.8 ghz Proc....so it can't be that \=

yeah seriously i get 100 fps. 2.66 ghz P4, 512 DDR and me 9600XT 128mb. I also have a refresh lock cos of the windows xp limit. But before that i had 60/70 max i believe. I can try help you out if you got any questions.

am i missing sumthing, is a 9600xt better than 9800pro cuz i have:

4ghz p4
1gb ram
9800pro

and with 1024*768 4x aa 16x af max settings i get 70 average, dropping aa when have lots of water.

So why you get 100? i mean, i do but not constant.

I used to get 100fps max on Cs with a geforce 3. And I couldn't see why anyone wouldn't seeing that CS is really old and the graphics are really outdated. ( but still really fun) :E

....wait hectic glenn... you do mean CS:S not CS right?! lol

Likely to be old skool CS.

I just changed the graphics card in my 2nd PC from a GeForce FX5600 to an Radeon 9800 Pro. The FX was running at 960 by something at around 34/35 FPS. I just dropped in the 9800 Pro (without downloading the latest drivers - just using the ones that XP chose for me) and the FPS went up to 54, at 1024x768 resolution.

That said, a 9800 Pro on my P4 3 Ghz gives me 91FPS - I think a lot has to with CPU speed as well (the other PC is a 1.8 Ghz).

And the 9600XT plays the Stress Test without any real problems, so you should be fine with HL2, just keep an eye on the settings.

It all depends on your PC all together. dosent actualy matter if you have 1gb ram. it just have to be good ram... well i mean, 1024 is very good ( i got it ) but PC2700 sucks for Althon 64 prosessors. i had bad preformance (probaly becous Athlon 64 is requierd to run on PC3200 :p . but when i got my 1024GB DDR 3200PC i have awsome FPS.

ATI Radeon 9800XT256DDR
1024GB DDR 3200PC 400mhz
Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0ghz 1MB Cache (Fast as 3.2ghz)

And telling that you must never buy a ATI ever is the dumbest thing i ever heard in my life. LOL!
I never had any kind of problem at all in my games. (Doom 3, Halo, Jedi Knight Jedi Academy, Starwars Battlefront, Planetside, Starwars Galaxies etc etc.. ;) )

Dont make this a NVidia VS Ati thing. *Sigh*

The 6800s have actually pulled level with Ati in Halflife2, and in some cases, are faster then Ati in Halflife2. 3dmark doesn't mean anything unless you're comparing the same architecture of graphics cards.

My ATI have worked perfectly all the time, exept the time it burned up, but that was my fault. Damn watercooling died. But I got a new card, and got a HL2 cupon with that new card!!! =)

by "Watercooling died" do you mean the pump broke, or the pipe!?

That sounds like an interesting service call...

"Yea, my computer is in about an inch of water... is that bad?"

Hey Nvidia's Geforce 6800 is a good card but it doesnt make up for there FX series cards i used too own a 5200 agp 128 that card blew nuts! then i bought a ATI 9600se and at 1024x768 at max settings on the stress test i was getting 60.42 fps hopfully with this card i just ordered i will have alot higher FPS in CS:S and oh yea the whole thing about Nvidia vs ATI lets look at the major factor of the two companys when Nvidia puts out a card with a set of demo's too show the performance of the card there CARDS CANT EVEN RUN THERE DEMO'S but the one that costs the most ive tested the 5200/5600/5800
and it was sad because not one of them ran the Dawn demo smoothly
ATI on the other hand though comes out with a series of good graphics cards when i had my 9600se it was running the 3d car that looked amazing! and that demo was designed for the 9700 series ATI OUTPERFORMS NVIDIA I dont care who you are Nvidia makes video cards you can play baseball with

not dissing nvidia here but ati does take up less space from what ive heard and seen
just depends on your opinion and experience with the two companies

From what i can see on the Nvidia cards most of them eat up a PCI slot ive only seen one ATI card eat up a PCI slot nvidia cant built a good enough core that will stay cool with a small heatsink too where ATI's heatsinks are small as possible

ATi definitely has the edge when it comes to 'card size'.

The pump broke, or, it's working now but... ahh, complicated story, there's nothing wrong with the pump, another hardware piece made the pump not start that one time and killed my gfx

I have a 9800Pro for sale if anyone is interested. It's the Crucial version (ATi reference design). I was thinking about £90 odd.

I have used both ATi, and Nvidia cards, and both have done their part in their time. The FX series is what made me switch over though... ^_^

I had purchased a FX5600 with lofty promises of the best graphics and DX9 compatability... *Cue Violin* But Alas, all I was given is stuttering framerates, and command lines to reduce the shader versions... *Sigh*

ATi, While they may have shoddy Drivers, are indeed good pieces of hardware. They haven't let me down yet.... but they have given that odd Love Hate Relationship.... You know, Like Mircosoft does! ^_^

I doubt you'll need to OC that card to play the game, but the option is always there.

I have an ATI card and I wish Nvidia made a card with the same options. I dont' have a problem with the general drivers, but the other software to make the TV Tuner, FM tuner and whatnot work won't install properly. I called their tech support when I first got the card and spend $75 on the phone call (didnt' know they were in Canada) and ended up being told to re-install windows.

Well, I DID have to re-install windows eventually and then the card worked, but I installed a DOom 3 patch and it broke the software, now it won't install again and it looks like I'm going ot have to re-install windows to get the Apps working. Sucks.

Nvidia never ever gave me a hiccup. Then again, I never had all the features on an Nvidia card, like I got with this AIW-9600 Pro. I only wish it would work!
