Third times the charm.
The trick to getting a proper poll is to cover all the bases.

A refresher:

Standard Edition — includes HL2 and CS:Source. Ships on six CDs, in one of three box-art packages (Gordon, Alyx or the G-Man).

Collector's Edition — includes Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Half-Life 1: Source, a Half-Life 2 T-shirtand a Prima book sampler. Ships on a single DVD.

Bronze — HL2* and CS:Source.

Silver — HL2*, Counter-Strike: Source, Half-Life 1: Source*, Day of Defeat: Source*, Valve's back catalog currently available on Steam.

Gold — HL2*, Counter-Strike: Source, Half-Life 1: Source*, Day of Defeat: Source*, Valve's back catalog currently available on Steam, Complete Strategy Guide from Prima Games, 3 different Half-Life 2 posters, Half-Life 2 hat, Half-Life 2 postcard, Half-Life 2 stickers, Half-Life 2 Soundtrack CD, Chance to win a trip to Valve! (1 trip offered for every 5000 Gold packages purchased).

I have an ATi voucher.
I want the Gold edition.
Prefferably prorated.

it depends, Is the ATI voucher the same as the bronze package?

Assuming it is. Or, if you think it shouldnt be, vote for that.

As I say in the other poll. If the ATI coupon is only good for the Bronze then I'll upgrade to the Silver. All the goodie that come with Gold are nice but all I really want is DoD:S and to see the new engine run in HL:S.

Rock on VALVe!

I thinkit should be silver, you got a voucher you shelled out up to $400 for a vid card and waited a long ass time, plus when I regged my voucher I got all the other valve games (as stated in the silver package) so maybe we are

I agree that after a year (for my borther, 6-8 months for me) of waiting the Bronze feels a little cheep, and we have many of the things the Silver offers. But we paid for a video card and it come with a free copy of HL², so we are getting what we paid for. Even if it is just the bronze package I for one won't throw a hissie fit about it.

HL2 was delayed, the cards we bought then, alot of us bought mainly so we could play HL2 on the best card that would be available. Those cards are no longer the best cards for Half-Life 2.

Back then those cards cost alot more than they do now...

So that's why i'd be a little peeved if we got bronze.

If we get silver however, I would be very glad to upgrade to a gold if steam gives us the option. If we get bronze I may end up getting gold too... because we already have all of Valve's back catalouge (excluding CZ, and I don't think that comes with Silver, I have no idea and I don't really care...it's obselete as soon as CS:S is out) and I dont really want to spend money simply to get DoD:Source and HL:Source, 2 ports which i'm not particularly interested in, but I wouldn't want to miss out on either - hmmmm, if there was an NS:Source I know i'd pay the extra for that.

I'm a Half-Life fanboy, I want the posters and stuff :/ ... hmmmpf

P.S I wonder how this will affect future Steam releases.... like the CZ and then ATi voucher owners getting CS Source beta... It's probably best to get at least the silver.

I won't really have much problem with only getting the Bronze as long as (A) It is possible to upgrade, I don't like having the cheapest possible package for the reasons i've mentioned above (B) It does not cost too much to upgrade, as all I would actually be gaining would be HL:Source... which tbh doesn't look that exciting, and DoD Source... which... well, we don't know very much about that yet...

im expecting the Silver Package for Voucher Holders, i have stated that i refuse to pay for mods, or a 6 year old game i already own.

People may hate me but thats fine, this is the internet, BUT we paid for out cards expecting it to be THEE HL2 hardware, after a year, and a new line of cards we STILL dont have HL2, VALVe in THIS PARTICULAR CASE does infact own us some compensation. CS: S or not HL2 doesn't even have an MP, its gonna take more then 1 mod.

It will be bronze, no question. Your voucher says you can get Half Life 2 retail ie HL2 and CS:S. They gave you the premier pack to keep you happy until HL2 came out. To expect to get everything else now, for free, is a bit cheeky - given that the voucher was only ever supposed to be for HL2 retail.

Incidentally, DOD isn't really a mod anymore. When it comes out in it's source format, it will essentially be a new game. In a sense, it's a sequel, so why should it be free?

You're getting 1 free game with HL2 in CS:S to expect to get more, isn't fair. CS has come a long way since it's beta mod days, and is a product in it's own right. Likewise is DOD...Natrual Selection could be next. This is the way of the world and people need to start getting used to it.

I'm sure people will start going about making their own HL2 mods (for free) to compete with the ones that we now have to pay for.

On one hand, I cant dissagree with you, czrsink,. by the letter of the law, you are correct.

On the other, Valve has gotten to sit on all their money for over a year now. They're practically investors at this point. I dont think its unreasonable to expect more.

Still Id rather people voted for buying a prorated gold edition.

I somehow doubt you would be saying that if you were in our situation czrsink, and the premier pack means nothing to REAL Half-Life fans, because we had all those games since they were released. It's a bit nasty to give the most dedicated fans a bum deal really isn't it?

I mean i've had Half-Life since it was released, and Opposing Force, and that is now free to me? well I don't see that as much consolation really? How would you feel if you had bought all these games and then they were offered to you for free?

Come on, think about it - So all these people who have jumped on the HL2 bandwagon or just bought Counter-Strike or something get Opposing Force, Half-Life, and all those mods for free - that's how it works atm... yet their most dedicated customers who have been with them since the game that made them famous in the industry was released, have to pay extra to play a 6 year old game with new water effects, and a modification that we've been able to play for free with new graphics?

Maybe I should be able to trade in my old Half-Life cd key as an upgrade to silver? because I sure as hell don't need Half Life, Counter-Strike, Opposing Force, Deathmatch Classic etc etc etc anymore, because it is being given to me for free - yet a port of a mod and a port of a game aren't... I don't really think that is right. Owning something twice, or three times even doesn't help me much does it?

exactly, we have been sitting on these vouchers and are vid cards have been getting older and older by the month, they owe us silver, no question about that.
and czrsink there were no announcements about these packages officially untill the last couple days so there bound by NOTHING to give us bronze, and to be perfectly honest they owe us voucher holders more for cohearsing us into buying vid cards that are slightly dated vid cards now. and on a side note I bet your not a voucher holder

You have to look at it from a commercial perspective, not a fanboy perspective.

I'm a voucher holder, I've had Half-Life since it's first day of release. I've playe CS since beta 1, played DOD since it's first outing and also TFC but I have to be realistic. Valve have invested 6 years worth of cash into this, and they are going to need to start making some of that cash back ASAP.

If Vivendi are going to muck them about whilst they decide what to do, why shouldn't Valve start getting some money back for their other products? Like I said in another thread, when Gooseman and Cliffe became Valve employees, how much control over CS did they then have? The same could be said for the DOD team.

Plainly, some may say 'it sucks'. But I feel Valve have every right to start charging us - we've had it for free for so long, and nothing stays free forever...we should be grateful. There could yet be a monthly subscription charge to Steam....

lol getting some money back? even if this game is pirated, which it will be. the sales for this game are gonna be phenomenal, and I mean of stellar proportions, what would it cost them to give us the silver package with hl source(...woot?) and dod source (....double sarcastic woot) nothing, or next to nothing. I meailed gabe this morning about this matter and I hope to get a reply soon

It's not only that though, alot of us built/upgraded our whole PC's for HL2.... I spent oh I don't know, around £1,000 if I remember - because of the September 30th release date. Now while giving people Half-Life and all the games on that engine (excluding CZ) for free may seem generous, alot of the people who have upgraded for HL2 have been Half-Life fans since the beginning, and therefore own every single one of those packages. It would make much more sense that our consolation was DoD:Source and HL:Source. In the very least so that we are not getting the "budget" package after wating so patiently for so long.

edit:
czrsink, I am glad you can see things from that perspective even though you would be losing out from it. I have no qualms about giving something back to valve - but ESPECIALLY if we cannot upgrade our accounts, it is almost a bad thing to have the voucher... think about it, wouldn't you rather have the freedom to choose which package you were getting? I'm sure i'd get at least silver or gold. I am one of the few people who actually likes and defends steam, (mainly because aside from the beta i've never had the problems that people seem to have with it, on 2 pc's now) I am not trying to get something for nothing, I've already bought Half-Life, Opposing Force and Blue Shift, and I plan to get a FULL HL2 package, so that I don't have to end up paying for mods or something.

The issue isn't so much DoD source, what I am afraid of is that mods in general, excepting CS Source because it is now *the* HL2 multiplayer - will only be available to the people with the Silver Package and above, and that us "Bronze" people will be stuck with a lobotomized version of Half-Life 2... that is all.

Hmm I see both side of this, I [b[hope[/b] for the Silver but understand that VALVe only needs for give me Bronze. I too have all the game give for free by the ATI Coupon as I'm sure many of us do, which is more likely why that was the deal as VALVe would lose nothing. Really all I ask for is up to date info from VALVe on this, if it just bronze so be it, but if its silver then hooty fricken hoot.

...

The whole deal with ATI is to make money, valve wouldnt do it if they thought it will cost them more than theyll earn.

im sure they actually got payed for giving HL2 with ati cards.

saying they need to make some cash back is not true, theyre trying to make more and more cash if this things true

Feck. Ok, one more bump.

If this matters to any of you (and the polls indicate it does), please post your opinions in this thread to keep it up on the first page.

There are a lot less of us ATi holders so we need to be more vocal to do this. So come on, people! Let VALVe know how you feel!

If nobody really cares, and it slips off again,. well so be it.
We'll probably be stuck buying HL2 twice anyways if we want the good stuff.

Well there not much more for me to say, I just have to wait and see if VALVe will say what version we get. I hope for silver but bet on bronze, and I hope I don't have to pay full price to upgrade. but for now we should just wait and see what VALVe says and I don't think a hand full of forum member will get valve to change there plans what ever they may be.

You're probably right, but voicing an opinion is better then complacency. Vavle might not have even thought of the idea,. at least if they see this they might consider it.
(It should mean more money for Valve..)

Come on, Voucher holders,.. I see you're voting,. so post with your vote. Even if its been said before.

Well, I guess my prayers have been answers,.. sorry to all those who expected the silver tho..

From a Valve email posted in the HL2Fallout Forums
http://www.hlfallout.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=8253

i was wondering what will half-life2s's ati bundle include? will it include HL:S at all? im very anxious to play this game. :D. and what package catagory does it fall under? bronze, silver, or gold?

many thanks, ****

and they told me this
Hello,

The ATI coupon vouchers will be transfered automatically to the Bronze Package. We will be offering upgrades to silver and gold for additional cost, but the details have not been fully worked out yet.

Thanks,
Jon

Gold is probably gonna cost an obscene amount of money, I'm gussing $130-150, which is alot more than I'm willing to pay for a game. I just want silver for Dod:S and Hl:s, I really hope they let us upgrade rather than buying the whole thing. Has anyone gotten word back from Valve about this yet?

*Edit* Nevermind, just saw the announcements.

we payed for cards that now just suck to play this game smoothly : / and we r just getting cs: s and hl2 :S:S

that really sucks, cmon we`ve been waiting for over a year with our voucher in hands and now that is the time to use it we r just getting bronze edition : /

personally i dont't bother about dod, even not about cs.
but: if the "retailers" will got dod for free when it's released, i'll be pretty annoyed, because the minimum i expected to get from the voucher is the plain retail-version. *sigh*most of the older valve stuff is included too, but for those fanboys around it's nothing they haven't played several time before. so this was a quite worthless present.

b2t: upgrading? wtf, pay for upgrades, perhaps newell has worked to long for m$? :flame:
and paying for mods sucks a lot more. :sniper:

Well now that I know its simple the bronze packages I'm going to upgrade to silver the second they let me, I want DoD:S. Hell I'd trade my copy of CS:S now for a copy of DoD:S later lol.

Eh? I never said anything about cds or anything. Where did you get that quote from? Not one of my posts,.

Couple things here,..

You are supposed to pay for upgrades in life,. because an upgrade is something more then what you originally purchased. UPDATES should be free.

And as for paying for Mods, there will still be tons and tons of free mods. However, one of the points of making a mod in the first place is the hope that it will be good enough to get you in the door as a game developer. So taking the best of the mods, and making a better, retail incarnation is an obvious step. This is a great way of supporting the Mod community, and creating incentive for more homebrew developers to make even more mods! See how that works?

yeah, mostly i know how it works, this was just a piece of sarcasm.
isn't dod:s developed by valve? so it cannot called a mod anyway now.

I'll probably upgrade to Silver. It shouldn't be too much more. I'm guessing the upgrade to Gold would cost around the same as the difference between standard and Collector's Edition. Either way, w00t.

upgrading from one package to another, as ATI users get bronze by default many of us wish to upgrade to a silver (in my case) or gold.

[homer]Default, default, the two most beautiful words in the english language[/homer]

Actually, I won't. UNLESS it turns out that DoD:S has tons of new features AND is really cheap.

Otherwise, I'd put my investment in other games instead. I'd have liked to play DoD:S, but it's still just a conversion of a pretty old game.

DoD:S will have alot of updates like mortors and other new weapons (and melee attacks for most woot). Remakes of all the best maps and more.

Read this thread to get the lastest news about DoD:S.
