ATI's Catalyst 3.8 Drivers are Screwy

Every since I upgraded, my Aquamark03 score dropped 1000 points and my 3Dmark03 tests stop suddenly with "Out of Focus" errors.

Anyone else getting these problems?

I can tell you one thing... ATI catalyst drivers don't work on my nvidia 5900. NO sir!

2) Reinstall opsystem/drivers

Its can work like a miracle
I have a 9700 Pro too, havent noticed a single problem with them in all the games I played. But then again, I havent tried AM3 or 3Dmark...

9800 Pro here. Just ran 3DMark03, got the exact same result as I got on 3.7. No glitches or problems.

Well, I just re-installed the 3.7 and now everything works pefectly and my score went back to normal.

Did you guys uninstall th e3.7 before installing 3.8? Or did you just overwrite?

I had 3.7 and did the following:

1.- Uninstalled only the control pannel
2.- Installed the 3.8 on top of the 3.7

No problems here. You must always unninstall the CP before updating the drivers.

Oh - I removed the Driver THEN the CP. Then I installed 3.8. Guess I gotta do this all over AGAIN. lol

While we're on the topic of ATI drivers, this guy named Omegadrive makes optimized versions of the CATALYST drivers. Take a look: http://www.omegacorner.com

I got a noticeable performance improvement from them in HL, so I know they work. =)

Well, i never remove the previous driver, just the CP.
I think is in the readme where it says that the previous driver is unninstalled automatically when you are installing the new drivers.
I dont think you will have a problem if you unninstall both the CP and the driver.

Also if you are still having problems i sugest a HD format and a fresh install...im shure everything will be ok then

But on ATI's installation tips it says:
"Uninstall the ATI Display Driver" It doesn't say anything about the control panel.

Doesnt really matter. The 3.8 comes with an uninstaller, double click and the old driver goes byebye

(extract the files from the first exe, then find the directory where the install files are and do the uninstall, dont install directly)

What about the control panel? Do you leave that alone or uninstall it as well? Also, what do you mean don't install dirently? What I do is: Uninstall the old driver (or overwrite if it wont let me), open the exe that installs the new driver and install it, then restart when it tells me to and thats it.

Here's what I did:
Downloads the driver
Reads the notes about an uninstaller and goes *GASP!*
Extracts installer (c:\ATI\driversomething I think)
Goes into that directory
Doubleclick on AtiCimUn.exe (aka ATI Uninstall Application)
*think* I restarts (not sure)
Installs driver (Setup.exe from the same directory)
Restarts

And done

Hm. I was scared to use it because it says if it wants me to remove ALL ATI software. I don't really think I want that? What about the Multimedia center and all that other stuff?

(the only thing I care about is that it doesnt touch my special ATI Dawn demo with... tuned... textures )

It is there, but only the XT cards support it. Its in the hardware, the R300/R350 doesnt have any monitoring capabilities.

After reading through this thread I believe I already located the source of my error, but just in case, I'm going to ask anyways.

I recently installed the new Cat 3.8 drivers (but forgot to uninstall the Control Bar/Taskbar, which is possibly the problem).

I turned on a SmartShader effect (Sketch Mode) and ran HL. It worked perfectly, no slowdowns, and it was quite beautiful (although impractical). No problems were encountered upon leaving the game, and I turned off the SmartShader and reverted to the normal mode (not custom).

When I later went into a game (doesn't matter which) everything was in black and white. Even the logo movies at the beginning of Halo were shown in black and white. I have perfect color before and after a game, but not during. Anyone know why this occured, and how to fix it?

Note: I'm planning on uninstalling the driver and control panel if there is no other fix that no one knows.

i had major problems bf42..so i went back to the 3.7s

physcadelic colors and stuff whenever i tried to exit the game.....and they made my comp unstable also.....
