just a quick question..
... besides "flattening" the image, what’s a good way to make the file size smaller? I know JPGs are small too.. any other tricks or tips on reducing the file size without sacrificing quality?
kthx :)

Well you could try saving in different formats. Some will save large files, some are more intelligent and save only what they need to. Also it depends on the kind of image you do, for example large flat color images will get better results in some formats than in others.

png is a good format.

Really it also depends on what your saving the images for. if you plan on editing them again, don't use jpeg or other lossy compression.

You cannot make an image smaller without throwing out information. An image that is not "flat" is a work in progress (generally). Your best bet is to use the "Save for web" function and check out your options, or just save it as a JPG and use the slider bar to balance out size vs quality.
