I had a heavy stuttering problem with a high end PC Athlon 64 3400 1gig Ram and Radeon X800XT and i'm using an Audigy platimun ex for sound.
I did'nt had any stuttering with all other recent games.
My prblem was solved by "accident" when i had to upgrade my RAM for FEAR and Quake 4 that use more than 1 gig themselves. So i put one RAM of 1 gig and one RAM of 512, before i had one RAM of 512 and two of 256.
The problem was that my RAM were not set correctly on the MB slots. For other applications and games that was not a problem, but for Half-Life it was.
So i just placed my RAM in the slots excatly the way it was said in the MB docs and no more stuttering at all.
I've already posted this once or twice, but as i see that many people still have the same problem maybe this could help someone.
