I've sent a Email to Gabe around Friday and havent gotten a response yet so i'll ask here.

Has anyone gotten any info at all about what day HL2 will be released in Aus if it goes gold and is on shelves in the US on Sept 30? Will we be getting it the same day? Or will we have to wait or go through Steam:)eek:)?

Please don't post shit like 'liek nov d00d', I need some hard facts please.

Hmm... Maybe 3-7 days after US release?

Or perhaps something like 8-15...
I live in Norway so I would also like to know more release dates

Hello Fellow Aussie...

Mate Gabe said a long time ago HL2 will be a world wide release. But 8 days till the supposed 30th Release date and no one knows what's going on.

The last official date from Valve have always been 30th Sep. Vivendi and retail stores are saying November. But who knows. No one knows for sure unless your the faithful few who believe Valve.

This is why there is so much tension in the community atm. 8 days till release and HL2 hasn't been announced Gold. There are so many rumours for this.

My personal guess is it will be release on Steam on the 30th even though Gabe said Steam/retail will be the same time. Gabe will apologise for this and say it couldn't be helped.

lol your telling me! :)

There are no hard facts except that it will be available worlwide through Steam on Sep 30.

Personally I expect it to be in Aussie stores shortly after ... but ... well you know the story.

It brings up an interesting problem ... what if the OLFC were to give it an R rating (unlikely) .. we would still probably be able to download it through steam. Perhaps Rockstar should take this approach.

Hmm, yeah. Just after the Vice City debarcle I really don't have that high hopes for a solid worldwide release that includes Australia.

Oh, and there is no R rating for the OFLC, if Vice City didnt warrant its creation then HL2 sure as hell won't.

Hmm, other people who live in australia :D

i think because we are 14 hours ahead it will be released about 2pm on 30th (if it is released)

As the other peeps have siad, it's supposed to be a simultaneous world wide release. So EB OZ and the like should have it on the same day as every other EB etc the world over. Keep your fingers crossed.

simpel: if its not in the store here 30 sept, then i download/buy over steam and i buy a new copy in 2 years ; )

thats means your paying over $240 then another (maybe $80) for hl2 :\

Actually the release dates here are getting better here. Most world wide releases we get around the same time or maybe a day or 2 late(like Frozen Throne).Something as big as HL2 i wouldn't see why we wouldnt get it at the same time.

Fellow Aussies!

Nice to see I'm not the only Australian on halflife2.net! Like the rest of you, I hope we won't be waiting too long for the game. I remember we got Jedi Knight: Outcast before the US last year; it'd be nice if that could happen with HL2 (not likely!). The last game I was this anxious for was Neverwinter Nights. The 'Aussie' thread at the Bioware site before it's release was huge! Pity the game sucked. I've upgraded my system recently, all ready for HL2. I had a GFFX5900 (still do, in fact, it's in the cupboard!) but bought a Radeon 9800pro to play HL2..properly! Much nicer card in every respect, anyway. Years ago, Halflife kept me occupied for weeks, maybe months. It was one of the first PC games I bought and played at length. I hope HL2 will be the same. It couldn't possibly be bad, could it? Although Unreal 2...eww. We'll see, I guess.

So all in all, the short answer to this question is, "Hell if we know." :p

im an aussie too

we get most things on same day

i got the new bizkit album a day before (today) its release.

yanks were sill complaining that their stores dont have it

Yeah Australia isn't bad for release dates actually.

Console Games release dates are screwed though. We get them months and months after US usually

Theoretically us aussies get it before pretty much everyone else :) except those damn new zealanders :(

Fortunately, there's none of that whole 'PAL/NTSC conversion' delay with PC games. We all get the same product.

i'm aussie too.
i'm hoping for 30th release date but don't think it will be..

It'l probably take a week or so longer after release to get to us aussies. Because it has violence in it, it'l probably have to go through ratings again... Thanks to our ****ed up politicians.

Not really. If it's meant to be a world-wide release, it will be available here at the same time as everywhere else (roughly). It happens with movies, it's happened with games (sort of). Simultaneous world-wide releases are meant to combat piracy. I guess it just has to go the the OFLC a bit earlier or something. Maybe Valve or the distributor pay them extra to rate it quicker. I just want it. Now. Or soon. But now would be better.

Yeah I have noticed that aus has been geting better the last few years,
as far as release dates go. Most AAA titles we get on time or even
sooner than the states cause of the time diference!

Heres hoping HL2 will be no exception.

Chalk u panother Aussie looking for a quick release of the game. Specifically the collectors edition DVD so i can get down to some serious gaming now i have holidays coming up.

Im in my first week of holidays already :\

and if hl2 comes out on the 30th and i buy it, ill only have 5 days of gaming before i go back to school and annoying study. :|

The release is 30/9 PST (GMT-8). In Australia (GMT+10) it's already 1/10 that time.

Seeing as the game has no sexual references/scenes and swearing it should be rated pretty quickly by the OFLC(heres hoping anyway).

do these guys have to sit and play through the entire game??

how can they be sure they found everything!

Well, here is a tidbit for you. This was from www.gameswarehouse.com.au

** Half Life 2 Release Date
We have had many many emails and phone calls about a release date for Half Life 2. At present, HL2 is NOT on the Australian distributor - Vivendi Universal's - release list between now and the end of this year. Since we have neither a release date, nor pricing from them, we have not opened pre-ordering for this title as yet. As soon as we have this info, we will put it in our database and open pre-orders.

So there is a new release date - not at all!

Movies they do but games no.Generally the company must disclose what the game contains, then the OFLC has a look then approves of it.

Woah. well vivendi can go **** themselves, im buying it through steam :afro:

I'm an Australian, for interests sake. I'd say we can expect HL2 on retailer shelves 3-15 days after its release in the states. While a world-wide release would be nice, Gabe specified that the Steam release would be a simultainious one with HL2 retail one in the United States (correct me if I'm wrong).

If this is the case, I doubt it'll hit our local outlets on the same date as the US.

Besides, HL2 being released on the 30th is another matter entirely, regardless of how soon after us Australian's will see the boxed version.

There's no way it's getting released on the 30th. Anywhere. Mind you, I'm only saying that because I want to be proved wrong! Also, imagine how hard it's going to be for us Aussies reading about others playing HL2 in other countries, while we have to wait, and wait and wait.... Think I'll stay off the internet for a while! :)
