Today, the Federal Court of Australia handed down its ruling in favor of the country's third largest ISP, iiNet. The case was backed by some of the largest media companies, including 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros. They accused iiNet of approving piracy by ignoring thousands of infringement notices. Justice Cowdroy said that the 'mere provision of access to internet is not the means to infringement' and 'copyright infringement occurred as result of use of BitTorrent, not the Internet... iiNet has no control over BitTorrent system and [is] not responsible for BitTorrent system.' Many Internet providers had been concerned that an adverse ruling would have forced themselves to police Internet traffic and comply with the demands of copyright owners without any legislative or judicial oversight.

Slashdot

I saw this and figured "hey, we've been bashing them enough, I should give those Aussies a break.

Hey, this is the first thread I started in like...a month at least.

I don't know why everyone is suddenly focusing on Australia when Obama is trying to strip his citizens of the first and second amendment.

****ing..hollywood "group of you know who" people

Oh, damn Australians and their sneaky diversion tactics.

Srsly Danimal, he hasn't pushed any legislation on the Second, although there has been some sneaky stuff in attempting to force bloggers to divulge what used to be private information and other stuff like that. Dunno if that's abridging First amendment, but it is violating the 5th in my opinion (search & seizure).

Anyway, Aussies are in vogue and I figured I'd help your image a little considering all the stuff that's getting posted on HL2.net.

[I was trying to find that picture of the TF2 Sniper doing a Trollgrin, if I had found it, it would be placed here.]

There has been some illegal shutdowns of Texan gun shows and the like, though I suppose it's just a matter of waiting.

*clenches his tin-foil hat*

Why are you people so intent on seeing everything that happens in Australia as somehow enacted by the entire country? Do you really see them as some giant, amorphous hive mind entity? :|

This is the internet Bad Hat. That has been happening since forever to every country.

America, North Korea, Japan...

True enough, but I don't see any large-scale damage done to the gun market without some serious legislation or presidential decree.

iiNet have always been defensive when it comes to other parties trying to impede on their service, even if it's full of holes. Nothing big.

Jeez, I had to check your IP and everything to make sure you weren't xdrive incarnate.

Well the fact that he mentioned the fact the first and second amendment should have been a good give away. Xdrive is a troll but he isn't a smart troll.

I personally blame the fact that ever since the invention of propaganda, we really never bother to get the facts straight as much as we should.

"hey, we've been bashing them enough, I should give those Aussies a break.

Bashing Australia doesn't work because we bash ourselves. Of course there is still a lot of headline reading crazies out there that need to get their facts straight before jumping on the "Australia is evil" bandwagon.

Welcome to Obama's Republic of Hitlerstan.
