Most Australians are on capped internet plans, once you exceed a certain amount of bandwidth your connection is rate limited to 64/64k. In my case if I exceed any individual cap External/Local/Uploads I get hit. I'm on a 40GB plan.

That didn't happen last period;

I heard they are going to put a nation wide censorship block on all of internet across entire australia for everyone.

What the **** is this faschism growing over there about? Where are the riots? Where are the turning cars upside down? where are the fires? C'mon, ****ing riot already, dont put up with this bullshit.

I hate the capped internet and I hate the prospect of a filter. I think the government if working on better internet, but the only opposition to the internet filter is the Australian Sex Party.

Rav there is no car flipping because there isn't going to be any filter. The government itself has proven any filter to be an unreliable slow piece of shit. Meanwhile 41GB of porn on the 21st was quite an achievement I do think.

I'm not quite clear on what is going on here.
All I got was 41gb of porn.

I'm lost. They give you a set amount of gigs that you can download with per month?

Australian Internet is notoriously bad. We're still working on a bad nation-wide network that is far slower than anything in Europe or the US. As a consequence, broadband connections provided by ISPs get slowed down to 56k speeds if you download more than your monthly quota: for me, 20GB a month for ADSL2+ costs about AU$55 ~ US$35. The higher your quota, the more you need to pay.

The government is supposed to be improving the entire infrastructure, but with all the mess you lot in the US have been creating our government seems to be a little occupied right now. In a few days, in fact today I believe, the government should be detailing the upgrade.

That's right, blame the Americans.

You guys go on... OH I HAVE A 40GB CAP I'M SUCH AN UNLUCKY ASS!

I have a 1Gb cap. STFU.

<3

I had a 200mb cap for years and for every MB over it was an extra 15 cents. Now I'm on 12gb cap but should be changing to a 25gb in a few weeks. Yes Australian internet sucks.

Not all Australians are into pedophilia.

At least your government has plans, Britain is stuck with British telecom having the monopoly on the lines and exchanges, so basically they couldn't give a toss, give you a shit unreliable service and lol their way to the bank.

Virgin media has been laying down Fibre Optic cable which is superior, but since I don't live in the middle of some massive English dump of a city, I won't see it any time soon.

I think anger at shitty internet is grounds to riot, I'de riot for better net provision.

TPG gives me ADSL2+, but only 20gigs onpeak, and 10offpeak. After that we're shaped to 128k.

Lol my good man, they are also blessed with an abundance of small and cramped living quarters

Get used to the idea of Internet Caps because they will be coming to your internet soon enough.

And yes Aus broadband sucks, our old government felt that the current level was "enough" and thus didn't bother improving it.
Our biggest teleco has a vested interest in keeping prices high while the low-tech keeps cost down and so consistently drags it's heels on improving standards.

@Kyorisu: Score!

Not all Australians are into pedophilia.
...joking I hope? The filter is going to do next to nothing against pedophiles who mostly use torrents or images sent over IM/email.

they're going to ban 4chan.

That is basically the end of my life.

You know that stereotype of Australians being lazy? It's true for the most part. At least that is the reputation we deserve after this little escepade.

All our phone lines are basically owned by Telstra.

lol. Muff.

Muff Burgers.

Muffin Burgers. HOLY **** I WANT TO MAKE A MUFFIN BURGER.

Ew. Changed my mind.

I had 56k until 4 years, ago, then 256k until the start of this year... now I'm on 1.5MB which is the fastest I can get. (we're yet to have ADSL2+ lines put down) Our exchange is out of ports, hence Koola is on 3G.

Can't wait for ADSL2+ to come in, that's fo sho.

Some funny posts in here. Muffins, hehe.

I'm on 8000/384. It's fast but that just means I use my cap quickly.

Pfft, ADSL2+ is only good if you're close to your exchange. I'm right on the border so I'm nowhere near the advertised speeds. The only reason I'm sticking with TPG is because they don't count uploads as part of the monthly quota.

Also, woo, 30GB! Suck it, Koola! :p

But even if we're upgraded to ADSL2+ it'll still be faster than ADSL. :P

So yeah!

Glasgay and Edinburger both have Virgin cable I believe.
Glasgay certainly does, I use it and it's dreaaammmyyy.

All you young'uns with your fast internet. Back in my day we used to communicate long distances by banging two rocks together and yelling incoherently.

Cheeky bugga :p

That's how you still communicate Koola.

You post on the net by banging the keyboard against a rock.

Kinda what's happening here. Telecom owns all the lines and it's total shithouse. There was even some legislation put through or something like five years ago to uproot everything and lay down new stuff (fiber-optic I guess), but nothing's come of it so we're still stuck with the old shite.

I ****ing hate how ISPs operate now, as well. A couple of years ago they all (except Telecom) had pretty straight-forward subscription plans, most even let you pick and choose whatever you wanted, and they all told you what kind of connection you were getting, ie - 1mb, 3mb, whatever. Now they're all named plans that don't tell you shit. The best you can get is just "max speed", it doesn't even give you a ballpark. And I SWEAR it's gotten slower than when I had a 3mb connection, even though it all costs the same, or more...

****ing Telecom.

Amen brother.

I am so sick and tired of BT internet, I'de tell them where they can go stick it if I had an alternative.

And thats why they can continuously **** us over, because our only choices are shit internet or no internet, even though its entirely possible to provide a good service.

Its not even like it would be bank breakingly unprofitable to provide better, they just don't want to, its the height of laziness and incompetence.
