Where do people get their avatar's?

I happend to do a google search for them but this was the only one I saw that I liked. However, I had to modify it quite a bit to get it to upload.

Do you make your own?

And if you do, what software do use?

google for both avatars and gif making program thingies, plenty out there.

i half-make my avatars. this one, i just googled for a panda, then changed around the coloring and added the bandana thingy. It turned out rather well IMO...

(btw if you can't tell what it is, it's a ninja-panda, one of the last)

Do you start with a picture and then animate it pixel by pixel?

i made my own. used flash. and instead of pixel by pixel, you mean frame by frame right? anyways... uhh... frame by frame editing give you lots of control, editting as part of a movie clip type thing is quicker. so eh. (i recommend flash... it makes me feel GREAT! OOOOHHHHFFFFF!!!!)
