I heard about it in the Doom 3 forums. It's called "Enditall". Do a google search. Apparently it's no longer freeware but theres still plenty of sites you can download the freeware version from. Anyway what it does is end all non essential programs running in the background of your PC. Basically it makes your PC run like it should when you first bought it, before you installed all that junk.

Me personally, my system RAM use was about 220mb even after I manually went into task manager and turned off everything I thought was safe. After using Enditall, it went down to 174! That's the number I usually see when I format my hd every 6 months or so. Thats an extra 46mb free for a game to use! Since I only have 768 mb RAM, thats pretty huge!

Of course nothing is permanent so it's safe too. It made Doom 3 and HL2 run even better... which I really thought wasn't possible!

I hope this helps a lot of you.

sounds to good to be true :) I'll check it out, thanks

I believe this should exist in the General Games section.

I'll try it out later.

EDIT

Woah woah woah. Why isn't Windows XP listed in the Platforms?

"PLATFORMS: Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT 4, Windows 2000"

???

be very careful with these this type of software,i got 1 before and it my comp wouldnt load after awhile, had to reinstall windows and lost all my files etc...

Wait...........wait.........I'm getting something here.......its....its April.....and and its the first day of April! What does that mean?

You'd have to be a pretty stupid person to double-click on a small file called 'enditall.exe', posted on a halflife 2 forum by a Doom 3 fan.

That's all I have to say.

it frees up ram, thats all,you can give your games more ram anyway by increasing the heapsize,i give all my games 512mb

guy i haven't personally tested this, but i had a friend who was on win98 and he had this, it really did just end all his background junk, to free up mem and space for what he was doing... It looked pretty amateur but it worked.

*april fool detector starts to buz quietly*

Nope. Works fine... I have it installed, and my computer hasn't blow-

U could easily ctrl-alt-del and do the programs yourself, just a thought

Would you guys shut up about April Fools ^_^

It's a good program.

Can someone post a link to were I can get it for free, all my googling has only led to non-free versions.

There are numerous memory management programs. Apparently they fill up your RAM (forcing unused programs out of RAM and into pagefile) and then release it for use by (next program you run).

Well I'm glad I helped some of you. Anyway it's not like the program will all of a sudden make your computer run super dooper awesome faster than ever... and I'm sure a lot of people don't need it either.

However, theres plenty of guys like myself who've been helped a lot with this program. So no it's not a joke.... Sure theres other ways to do it, but its so cool you just click one button to "End it All" and all of a sudden you got a bunch more free RAM and less CPU usage.

I've used plenty of 'tweak guides' in the past and aside from getting a lot of problems out of it.. it takes forever... testing different things to see what works best.. changing it one way, then changing it the other way, etc etc.. very time consuming..

Anyway this isn't a 'tweak', just something to end extra BS programs when you don't know which ones to manually close in Program Manager and DONT want permanent changes..

Besides, it seems to me its a lot easier than making permanent changes.... or going into task manager and trying to figure out what each program is and cancel them one by one.. Plus why make permanent changes when you just want a basic setup only to run games? Normally I want most of those background programs running, like if I'm surfing the net, downloading, or just chatting... but when I'm gaming, I DONT need all that background stuff running... so now I'll use this... So anyway for those of you who this helped, I'm glad to be of service. Honestly I'm just trying to help out because damn, I just wish someone else posted about this program months ago... so anyway you might as well get it now, while you can still find it for free..

BTW theres nothing unsafe about it.

I have been using it for a long time now and I definatly recommend it for everyone. Great program, it won't get rid of spyware but it will close those spyware programs that can't be closed so you can delete them. Another really good program is Security Task manager.

I turned it on and a list of programs came up, does that mean it's working>

This program was ok...didn't really help that much

Readme doesn't say it is compatible with Windows XP?

It is really a great program, but it's better just to stop the tasks from running in the first place with msconfig.

^^^ correct

I run at 107mb resources everytime i boot up windows, nice and fast.

I went through all the windows services and disabled ones i never use and then msconfig'ed all the crap i don't need loading up at startup

it doesnt say xp, because obviously there was no xp when it was written.

Anyway, just dont install all that shit in the first place. Always click NO to things websites want you to install, and keep a close monitor on your windows/currentversion/run/ in registry, both _user and _machine.
