Right, my CPU fan is not doing its job any more. It obviously hates me, and all attempts to beat it into submission have failed.
I'm even writing this post under pressure, seeing my CPU temp rise with every passing minute :O ARGH!

So, do I need to buy a new cpu fan or what? The old one is still spinning and one cannot see any problem by just looking at it, but it's obviously not working :| Unless of course only being able to use your computer a maximum of 15 minutes before it shuts itself down because the CPU reaches 70 degrees celcius is normal. It isn't? :(
Damnit.

Right, it's hit 50 now. 50! ARGHH! 51! STOPPIT! STOPPIT, I SAY! 52!
Damnit, gotta write faster.

So, what can I do? Is there anything I can do? Oh, and my CPU has always been very hot (heh :p), often hitting temps of 40-50 while idling. But it's never gone above that before, and not this fast! Help me, you grubby peons! :(

Sorry for the messy post, I'm under time pressure as mentioned above.

What you could do is open the case, get a house fan, put it right next to the case, and turn it on. That is the best way right now. Then go out buy a new heatsink for your CPU, then buy a 120 mm fan to replace the craptastic one you have in there now.

get both a new heatsink and fan. Make sure the thermal tape or thermal compound you use ARE TOUCHING THE PROCESSOR. If not, you could have bad cooling and things will get very hot. That's all I can think.

Grargh, what's the difference between a heatsink and a cpu fan? :$

/me checks the evil runic markings on the magic machine.
It seems to be a Zalman, rather small, plastic "wings" on the fan. Big blocky thing made of something that looks like copper under the fan.

Well, that is the Heatsink with a Fan on top of it. Heatsinks go on top the CPU and then you are able to put a fan on top of the Heatsink. They are able to lower temperature on your CPU DRASTICALLY. Buy a new heatsink with fan already on it.

Take the fan off the heatsink and remove any dust. It's much easier to do with the fan off. ;)
Are all of your case and powersupply fans still going? Just try to clean the case out first. Dust is evil!

If it still goes up and up then i'd take the heatsink off and replace it with a new one.

:(
I think I broke the damn machine.

I unscrewed the heatsink and fan, and replaced them with a new, bigger, more manly one. However, now the computer just gives up a feeble "bzzzt" (oh, and the fans go on) when I press ze giant "ON" button, before dying. Damnit :(

So, what we've got now is a computer that lives for a grand total of 3 seconds everytime I try turn it on. =/

Might be a dumb question, but when you placed the new one on it, did you remove any tape or use any type of thermal paste?

if it goes bzzt mate (this happened to me)

unplug everything form ur psu
and try each individual component at a time because it could be detecting a false voltage on one of the rails cos of a dodgy fan and fudging when this happeend to me after i did a case tidy i was like shiiizit but yeah rember u might have to turnt he psu on and off if it has a switch on it or unplug each time cos otherwise it wont start like
