Doing lots of work on my PC, rather spaced out just not so much to spend an hour on a FPS.

Looking for a game that I can run in the background and maybe play/update for 5min every so often. I heard Defcon has a time mode like this but it doesn't look to thrilling from what I see in the screenshots (that no doubt in that type of game give it no justice).

Any suggestions? A strategy or management game would be cool but it can't be a fullscreen app' it would irritate me ALT+Tabbing all the time :(, don't mind browser games either if they are well in depth.

Thanks dudes. :D

What do people think of Defcon?

or, any good online text games? Yarr. :)

Get Football Manager 2007 and you're sorted :D

Defcon's alright. I bought it for $15 when it was released, but I haven't played it since the purchase. I dunno. There's nothing to make me play other than the thought of wasting $15.

My favorite little games were the Pinball game that comes with XP and Geometry Wars.

That pinball game won't be fun without sound though; that's the best part.

What I've seen with Defcon, it seems pure strategy, I kinda like the idea of collecting/making resources, building up and managing things - which Defcon doesn't really have, it's just kill as many people as possible.

Thats one of the game modes where you rack up points for evey million or so people killed, the other is about pure survival, lose a point for every city nuked :p

Consider it.

How 'bout "N". It's a really sweet platform game.

N has been described as reminiscent of lode runner -- you're a little dude running around in a puzzle-y world inhabited by enemies.

But in N, there's a twist: the ninja is driven not only by a thirst for gold, but also by a physics simulation.

Death, which happens often, is quite animated.

Sumotori (I made a thread not to long ago)

N is just great, although I've gotten REALLY pissed at it, at times.

I usually use an emulator for SNES and play Super Mario World, just load it up, load state, then you're there!

Also - a game called "Jumper 2" it's hard as fvck, but windowed, and fun.

Oh my God I completely forgot about N! :D

Thanks man.

I know the feeling. One time I had all the doors opened on one level and I accidentally ran into a mine. Bad language ensued. :D

Mutley: You can also try "ADOM" (Ancient Domains of Mystery). It's a "roguelike" RPG, similar to the famed NetHack, in which you run around killing monsters and picking up items in an effort to eventually win the game. Unfortunately, in the "true" roguelike style, death is permanent, even after you've saved your game. There are shortcuts around this, though. :)
Also, there are no graphics. All in-game content is made up of text characters. Your player character is an "@" sign. :p

ADOM is classic, I'm a huge fan of rougelikes, I've never ever seen another post on HL2 in my 2-3 years here even mentioning roguelikes actually, wow.

You get 1000+ gamerpoints for playing roguelikes Destron.:D

While we're on the topic of roguelikes, DoomRL(I think that's the name, DoomRogueLike) is an awsometurn-based RPG-ish version of Doom 1, also with ASCII characters, but its complete with all the Doom 1 music and sounds etc.:D

Btw, that 2D shooter some guy linked to earlier is awsome, if they just improve upon the AI that is!

This is the best game ever, even though it's not really a complete game yet. I hope they make the gameplay epic and long instead of quick and lame for the CS crowd.

It's way to easy to win right now with the brain only taking a second to die. I like defending only to make it last longer.

Play this all the time at school along with networked Quake 3, N, Line Rider, Toribash, Ragdoll Kung-Fu. And Wikipedia Races when pen drives go missing. I got from Oral sex to The Clangers in about 2 minutes today. Was immense.

spooky, yeah, maybe they should add something like defensive turrets for the brains?

I found a game that fits my need. :D

It's off Steam, new title I think called "Making History" - it's very much like Risk but with in depth units/resources/diplomacy etc. Can be run in window mode and is great fun!
