It’s a shame that hundreds of people couldn’t quite grasp the obvious reasons behind Gabe Newell having an account on the HalfLife2.net forums. Gabe did not sign up to converse in general chit chat, talk about his day, or how cool Halo is. The sole purpose of Gabe’s account is to make important, informative posts (much like the one in discussion) when he deems appropriate.
People have been discussing why Gabe would make an announcement like this on “a” forum. However this isn’t “a” forum, this is “the” forum for Half-Life2 community. Valve love to work with the community so why not post it on a forum like this, especially with his personal, confirmed account.
There have been thousands upon thousands of people supporting the leak thread and halflife2.net through these troubled times which we’re thankful for. Unfortunately, at the same time there has been a small amount of people who have done nothing but insult us, spout slander, rumors and proclaim that the thread is a blatant fake.
We’ve been backed up by the gaming news giant, Shacknews, who phoned Valve and received confirmation, shortly after posting their information live to the world. Even with this solid grounding, skeptics remain. People on halflife2source’s radio station have their doubts, claiming that Shacknews isn’t actually a reputable news source (at least in the sense that they MUST hear it from Gabes own mouth rather that one of the most trusted news sources on the net).
It’s unfortunate that the main source of slander has come from the direction of halflifesource.com. Not from the website itself, but from people participating in their forums and IRC channel. Amongst the disbelievers were several who claimed that halflife2.net have also done fake interviews with Doug Lombardi. Not only do they fail to back up their allegations with proof when asked, but they failed to realize that we’ve only ever in fact done a single interview, which was with Gabe Newell, mind you.
We’ve been attacked by certain members of the community who promote that halflife2.net isn’t a reputable news source, which I find most disturbing. If there’s worthwhile news to be posted you can rest assured it will be on our front-page. Our forums contain discussions about all the latest happenings, opinions and so forth. We’ve worked hard, we’re proud of where we’ve taken HalfLife2.net, and people need to understand that if there is an announcement to be made by Valve, there is actually a legitimate chance you could see it first on our forums, as history has just demonstrated.
We ask people who have a problem with us to deal with their issues.
