Ban on the Burka [NL]

How retarded.

edit: I recognize the major problem they are having there but that measure doesn't do anything to solve it, just will make them shut ins basically. You don't solve anything by banning it. With the huge cultural problems here in America we have with Mexico essentially merging we don't 'ban' anything, we adapt and bring major reform to THEM. You can never 'ban' things to solve it. You have to teach them the customs and ways and make it be part of the immigration platform for entry/immigration.

edit2: I can also understand a ban on it in places such as massive crowds (soccer games, etc) but the way the article implies as just anywhere in public is too far.

Burka should be banned, for simple security reasons.
Isn't it far more invasive what France did by banning the headscarf/veil(is that what it's called?), I mean that thing doesn't even cover the face, you can easly identify someone, with a Burka you do not know if it's a male or female under it.

That is really ought of order.

No matter what we think, to them it is a very strong part of there culture.

Banning it is just evil.

Yes, and now they stand for a dilemma : Get beaten up by their men or get a (hefty) fine.

banning pigs is okay then?

No-one banned pigs.

They just stopped Pigs being displayed in front a Muslim workforce.

If it's truly for security reasons then they should only enforce it in areas where security is a serious concern, and they should make it apply to all cases where the face is being covered, not just burkas.

How could it be a security problem?

Its not like you can tell a terrorist, by the shape of there nose.

also its sign of opression that whole religion should be banned just like any other!

yeah I said it.

They can rob a bank, steal things, hurt people, and not be recognized.
It's like someone walking in to a bank with a hood covering his face.

Don't worry I still like you :D

Its not a sign of oppresion, no Muslim women are forced to where it, except in middle eastern countries, where people are scared if they don't.

In England not all Muslims do it, but some do becuase they want to, thats how they feel comfartable. In England some women like to wear mini skirts, and make up. Im sure in Afganistan there thinking: "Thoose poor opressed English women having to walk around with almost no cloths and made to paint there face, becuase men want them too."

Real Islam is not opressive, it's just abused alot (just like chrisiantity). Banning the Burka, is also a civil rights issue, not being able to dress what you want.

Seriously though try and see it from the other point of view.

it's not so much the arguments behind the ban that people are questioning (security threat in public places), but the whole attitude towards the muslim society in the Netherlands in changing in a rapid way.

I can imagine that the Muslim community is getting sick and tired of being in the news all day in a negative way. I believe that the number of women actually wearing burkas is quite low, so this is not a big issue. But it's the whole tendency of Minister Verdonk that is constantly trying to limit the rights of Muslims in every possible way.

As a muslim spokesman said, they are constantly focusing on the negative/different aspects instead of the positive facts/facts that we have in common.

They?
Again your comparing the actions of a few, and relating it to a group.
