As seen in the Doom 3 warez thread, newspapers are once again demanding that "evil" games should be banned, despite ignoring the fact that the person who commited the crime of murder, in homage to Manhunt, was under the legal sale age of the game (18) in the first place.
This is not down to the game, at the end of the day, this is the fault of irresponsible shop management and poor parenting. The game is an 18 for a reason, and if the shop he bought it on didn't require an ID check, then surely, they're partly to blame? This is also the fault of the parents. Why weren't they taking enough of an active part in this kid's life, so that they knew what he was playing, or if the shop he got it from did give him an ID check, why did they buy it for him? What about his school or colleagues? Surely they should have noticed signs of an obsessed pyschopath at some point.
I'm not doubting Manhunt's morally dubious content, I'm saying that the game was never meant for him, and that society is the real evil.
Discuss/agree/hate.
