Banjo-Kazooi 3 schreenshots

Never played these. Looks pretty sweet though. How does the series compare to a Ratchet or a Sly or a Jak?

*prays that some of the Rare magic is still left*

Better imo. The original Banjo is up there with the very best. Much has changed since the glory days of Rare, though.

oh my GOD that's a pretty game.

and why the hell does everyone hate on Rare so much?

sure PDZ wasnt very good. but i thought Kameo was pretty fun.

I can't wait for this title.

I LOVED the originals on the N64 and I'm very tempted to dig out my N64 and replay them.

Hopefully Rare wont pull a PDZ on this one. My god, that game sucked.

It's not that they don't make decent games - I enjoyed Kameo, Viva Pinata etc - but rather that they used to make absolutely amazing, as good as it gets, games. At their best they were on par with Nintendo at their best.

There's very little (if any) left remaining from the original Rare team that developed those old n64 classics. For all intents and purposes, the dev team in Free Radical is essentially Rare.

Aw man, I really hope they don't f*ck this one up. Banjo Kazooie was one of the most magical games I've ever played. I want to replay it so goddamned bad right now, you have no idea D:

I think there's a fair few of the original team left - you can still see the odd spark of magic in their recent games. To be fair, Free Radical haven't got close to matching Rare's former greatness, so I can't think of them as the new 'rare'. I suspect Nintendo played a significant role the glory days, that and, as you said, the talents been diluted since then.

It looks amazing, the originals were excellent games and really hard sometimes :O

So I guess M$ got to it before Nintendo?

Microsoft own Rare :o

I think its one of the reasons this hole goldeneye issues is such a big mess. Everyone wants a cut of the profits and no one can decide who gets what.

Rare used to be my favorite developer ... but now they're really nothing special at all. PDZ was a horrible game, even if you take it out of the shadow of the original (one of my favorites). Kameo and Viva Pinata are just decent. They're Rare in name only now, completely devoid of the talent and spark that they used to have.

Timesplitters 2-3 and Second Sight are better than any Rare game since Conker's Bad Fur Day ... so yeah, although Free Radical may not be quite as good as the old Rare they're the closest we have.

What i'd really like, other than the obvious return of something Golden Eye, is a new Jet Force Gemini. Playing the new Ratchet and Clank recently reminded just how much better Jet Force was.

That game was awesome. (not joking)

Jet Force was an awesome game. Rare really were amazing during their N64 days. I'm getting my N64 out tomorrow I think :D

Oh my God, the first two were an integral part of my childhood. I would be a different person without those games. I MUST get this.

Oh my god yes, Jet Force was an awesome game. I loved the gib system, the targeting system, the guns, the worlds, it was just an awesome game all around.

oh yeah, I remember that one too. Loved the multi player. But I could never get past that giant bug looking boss where you were playing as the dog.

1. Better
2. 100 times better
3. 1000 times better
Disagree. I tried to play it recently and it's aged badly and I didn't even find the gameplay fun. Conker's Bad Fur Day is probably better, from memory.

Jak 1 on the other hand... awesome compared to 2 and 3. I haven't played Ratchet though.

Some info from June's Game Informer magazine:

Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts (360)
- RARE says they didn't want to make a hi res version of the old Banjo platformer.
- You create vehicles with parts you find around the levels.
- GI says their first vehicles was a 4 wheeled kart with a spring attached to the bottom that allowed them to jump things. They later found a helicopter blade that allowed their kart to fly. Later they added balloons to the vehicle and put the blade on the back and created a hovercraft.
- RARE showed them a vehicle that was a monster truck that was able to detach its chasis to become a mini bike. When the bike ramped off a cliff it revealed collapsible glider wings and started flying.
- There will be 1,600 parts including weapons that you'll be able to attach to the vehicles.
- The town is called Showdown Town.
- GI says that despite the large focus on vehicles it still features platform elements from the previous games like traditional platforming, tight rope walking and jiggy piece collecting.
- Showdown Town is 16 times larger than anything RARE has created before.
- Every level has a different intro. Nutty Acres begins with a credits spoof of 80's soap opera's like Dallas.
- Note collecting is back and will act has currency that'll allow you to bu vehicle blueprints.
- RARE says there are 15 different challenges spread across 6 different levels. There will also be side missions.

I dunno what to think about building vehicles and such. It will be a big difference from the originals.

Agree with every word of this post. I was so disappointed by PDZ that I almost cried myself to sleep.

Yeah I'm having my doubts about this too.

The teaser trailer released ages ago looked awesome and seriously got me hyped. Now with the announcement that Banjo-Kazooie 3 being tailored for use with Microsofts motion control, and the game being very vehicle-centric, I am seriously doubting this being a good game, or one I'd enjoy.

Shame really.

Not surprising to see a XBox hater hating a company that is owned by Microsoft and thus makes games exclusive to the XBOX and PC.

I actually bought banjo kazoie 64 because it got good reviews.

I seem to be far on my own here, but I thought it was a pile of crap TBH. It seemed like Mario 64 (which I didn't like very much) with different characters photo-shopped in. I was embarrassed to own it and felt deceived by what seemed to me that people were paid to give it a good review. Cut and paste Mario game with different characters, but no magic.

This new banjo on the other hand, this looks absolutely beautiful. The graphics and art are stunning.

Is it really coming to PC?

Well, one of Rare's previous 360 games did, Viva Pinata, so it's a possibility atleast.

I personally think Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie had far more personality and character than Super Mario 64 ever did.

I have to get around to replaying them, so nostalgic ;(

sea, I suggest you don't waste your time on VirusType2, he's a special boy.

Don't, or he'll send you an "enemy"(friends) request, and then tell you to put him on ignore!! The horror!

Some more news.
Ok, since the embargo has ended, I guess I can spill some beans on Banjo.

Banjo (slated for November):
- Building vehicles is basically like playing with LEGO. You can always jump in and out of the vehicle editor and come right back to the game with the new design.
- Parts are easily placed and moved around. You don't have to worry about connecting the motor with the wheels for example. Just place everything so they stick together and don't get in the way.
- Vehicle designs can play a large role in missions. We saw one where you had to collect coconuts from a field and got a small truck that could suck them up. Unfortunately you couldn't fit all the coconuts in the truck and had to back and deliver them in a large barrel. We were then shown how you could create a helicopter with a hook, that could pick up this large barrel, fly to the coconut field and fly low to scoop the coconuts in the barrel.
- Physics are awesome in this game and everywhere! With one design I placed the foot-in-a-box weapon behind a propella, and when I tried to use it, the foot/boot couldn't get past the propella... well, until I used it enough times to actually kick the propella off the vehicle!
- Place the propella on the back and gain speed on ground and in water. Place it on top and you have a helicopter. All parts can be turned in every angle btw.
- Pixel art... imagine the possibilities (Rare already had an example of this, paying homage to a certain plumber)
- Multiplayer is great fun with the ability to either chose from pre-fabricated or own vehicle designs. It still needs some polish here and there, but showed great promise.

It's true that Banjo-Kazooie takes its formula from Mario, but it expands upon it in plenty of ways. There's far more character abilities (which are gained as you progress), a massive amount of hidden bonuses and collectables, some beautiful graphics that still hold up today, fantastic sound and music, and excellent character design and writing (though that's a matter of preference I suppose). Its sequel is even better; it's a downright massive game (the largest level in Kazooie is the size of the smallest in Tooie, and they actually connect to one another, resulting in situations where you have to travel between them to accomplish objectives), they expanded a huge amount of the abilities available to the player (you don't lose any of the old ones at the beginning of the game, either), the plot is more interesting, the writing is intelligent and occasionally hilarious, the graphics are even better (though the framerate suffers), etc. Sorry for going on a rant, but I don't understand why these games aren't so revered today. Maybe they're just a bit too complex, non-traditional or don't have the Nintendo name slapped on them.

Though, if you don't think Mario 64 is one of the greatest games of all time, then there's basically no hope for you anyway.

Banjo Kazooi's graphics were so horrible! The N64's graphics were horrible

My favorite system was probably the SNES . The 64 ruined everything. The 2 games that I liked for 64 were Waverace and Goldeneye. Games like Mario, Mario Kart, and all of the Nintendo franchise games were ruined in 3D from the N64, the Gamecube, and don't know after that

...someone says there is no hope for me, (I'm wrong) when I state an opinion.

I forced myself to finish mario 64 long after it came out from boredom, curiosity (why everyone thought this was so good?), and determination. It had a few cool things but was nothing compared to super mario world or the other SNES mario games. The graphics pretty blocky and textureless and repetative and the camera was so annoying. I really just hated the n64

for banjo
I couldn't stand anything to do with collecting those stupid puzzle pieces. The graphics were a brown bear on a tan and green - two colored level. Horribly stupid and hopeless. That is how I remember it.

When these N64 games came out, I was playing Playstation games like Resident Evil 1 & 2 , Street Fighter Alpha, Gran Tourismo, and others like Wipeout, Need for Speed, and Destruction Derby 2.

Don't, or he'll send you an "enemy"(friends) request, and then tell you to put him on ignore!! The horror!
WTF - you remind me of one of those kids who is really smart for his age. You act about 10 though.
