Barney and Alyx: Your Artificial Co-op partner

It might sound daft, but if you think about it, The main characters should have the ability to pick up ammunition from dead enemies or at most do a weapon swap (An RPG for Barney anyone). Of course there should be a delay for the AI so that you have time to replenish on ammunition, and then the NPC's pick up any remaining ammunition say five seconds later.

What do you think of the idea.
Bet somebodies got a better idea.
 
Are you kidding? An RPG for Barney? What with him being so gung-ho and all? I'd fear for the safety of everyone within a five mile radius!

Apart from that, NPC's collecting weapons is a good idea. I'd trust Alyx with an RPG more, though.
 
Hm... I think it will be pretty annoying and lots of players will end up shooting their npc buddies because they want their guns :D :p
 
I think your partners should at least be able to pick up/use healthpacks. there were a few times in HL1 where I'd come across some health that Barney needed more than I did.

And instead of hiding to preserve his health, he decides to go in all guns blazing, and dies by a paratroopers boot.

Off course like the "mod it yourself" remarks from valve crew, it is possible that you could dumb down that part of the AI through the options menu (If included in a patch or a mod)
