The black masked Combine wear camouflaged suits, and the white masked wear something different. More evidence that the black masked are militaristic... hmm.

Okay, so Barney was a security gaurd at Black Mesa until it was destroyed, my guess is he came out of it alive and decided to join the police force, thus, thats where he got the uniform.

The black-masked combine soldiers have slightly more military like outfits with the "combine mark."

My guess is that they took over, and the ones who didnt like it (aka Barney and I suppose there'll be some others) left, but kept the uniforms. While the militaryish ones provided the metrocops who stayed and joined the combine with gas masks and weaponry.. or just gas masks... i dont know.

Anyways, on another note, I've noticed (especially in the tunnels video) that they white masked gaurds on those stairs after the man-hacks thing we're mumbling something in english (I presume,) and the black masked one that jumps from the ladder and gets his ass impaled by the hydra says something along the lines of "hold it right there" or something similar clear as day.

I'm guessing the combine is both Aliens and Humans, however the combine soldiers are all human, but either police or military officers.

Woo, that was alot.

Dawdler, I'm sorry but Dagobert is absolutely right. The slaves are now on your side. Consider, if you will, for a moment WHY they were called SLAVES in the first place. Then consider the slaughter of what one assumes were their masters - Alien Grunts and the Nihilanth. That would seem to result in an EMANCIPATION.
And the Combine (including the Strider) seem to be at odds with the Xen aliens - but we might be wrong. That's neither here nor there though.
The Slaves are back as allies, away from their OPPRESSORS, and I for one can't WAIT to see their return. Best HL1 aliens. Ever.

Then please tell me why headcrabs attack him (whether they be on a human or not, we've seen both in the videos). Last time I looked they where xen aliens.

Or of course, unless you think all that was just a show, and the headcrab zombies will be Gordons friends in the real game. That I can understand.

Attack GORDON!? Gordon isn't one of the Slaves (aka Vortigons - maybe there's some confusion afoot?)... Whether the headcrabs will attack the slaves is not apparent as there aren't any new pics of the Slaves in HL2. Maybe the headcrabs WILL attack them, who knows? The Bullsquid never got on with those dirty little b*stards, certainly.
No-one's saying ALL the Xen aliens will be on Gordon's side - that would be ridiculous. What we ARE saying is that the Alien Slaves are back and this time it is as allies for reasons as yet unknown and unrevealed - probably they were just so glad Gordon helped free them by destroying their masters or whatever. Also, this is not speculation, it's FACT. The Slaves ARE returning as allies in HL2 as confirmed by Valve in many many previews.

Then refresh my memory: What is your idea of what the "alien slaves" are? I just assumed it was the xen aliens controlled by the nihilanth... Headcrabs would be part of this then. I finished HL a week after its release, I dont remember every bit of it. I cant remember any xen alien in particular that would be smart enough to help Gordon, considering they where all like animals... Maybe that zapper alien. Is that the "Slave"?

The Alien Slaves are the Vortigons. The lanky brown aliens with the shiny metallic green cuffs and collar bits (the collar had a hoop on it as if for a reign) that shot green electricity.
These are the Slaves we're referring to.
The other aliens in HL1 were either Xen forces (inc the Slaves) or the Xen fauna (headcrabs, tentacles, etc.)
Or at least as far as I understood it.

Ah... Never really thought of the zapper as anything but a xen alien, it was just a "zapper alien" in my path that needed to be killed (preferably with double shot from a shotgun) to me

But they were the best Xen creatures by far and away so it'll be great to see them return, especially as good-guys! (Slave with a double-barrelled shotgun, mebbe?)
Also reappearing are: Headcrab (natch), Bullsquid and the Barnacle but in a slightly different way to before...

If you read closely I never really admitted being wrong
Was just a slight misunderstanding, I talked about the general Xen aliens with no thought of the zapper, and you guys talked about only the zapper and not the xen aliens

Well obviously, its a combined crab on a pairs of stilts... Or maybe it was 3, cant remember, dont have the movie here. Wonder how it could stand with only two of them on the ground though...

Obviously? If people hadn't have noticed the sign on it's main body, we wouldn't have known it was a part of the Combine...

Yes obviously. Xen aliens wouldnt be bright enough to use weapons attached to a bigass alien
They either used raw force (trying to squash Gordon) or some sort of energy appearing from nowhere.

I heard there is around 50 enemies in hl2, is this true? And if so theyve only mentioned half of the xen aliens which were in hl1.

Other Xen aliens not seen or heard of yet in hl2:

Alien Grunt
Controller (flying things with big heads, shoot yellow balls)
Snark T (little bugs that you can set on other people)
Gargantua: (Big & nasty)
Tentalce: (Big but can only hear you)
Ichthyosaur: (Xen sharks)
Gonarch: (Mother headcrab)

Out of all these id prolly most wanna see the Gargantua back (pls b in it)

Yeah, but I don't think they'll be putting in appearances - no journalists seem to have mentioned it yet...
Gonarch's dead... The controllers were bastards... The Icthyosaurs were bigger bastards... The Grunts were cool... The tentacle was cool... Gargantua was fantastic, but the original design was better.
I don't think they'll make an appearance though - why would Valve keep secret aliens that we already know about?

Valve are keeping alot of things quiet. Maybe the aliens from opposing force will be making an appearance? They r descibed as "Race-X aliens" which appeared after gordon left black mesa. Did they all get wiped out of there at the end of opposing force? If there are around 50 eniemies in game only 16 have been accounted for so far.

Well remember that there are multiple versions of some aliens. In HL1 there was only one type of headcrab (not counting the single Gonarch), whereas in HL2 there is the normal one, a small one, a large one and a flying one I believe. So a good portion of the enemies in HL2 could be alternate forms of the old HL1 enemies. Maybe the telescopic-necked Garg could make an appearance...?
