Wow, and I thought Bane looked bad. Poison Ivy is not a good character, and never was, so I think it’s always been too much to hope for an appropriate interpretation of her, but this – I think this really solidifies what is so absolutely shit about her. “And now we grow together.” Sigh. Scratch one on the Bad Boss Battle list. I had high hopes for this, but so far, or at least lately, I have been less than impressed. There’s a distinct Gears of War tone to the design (for the uninformed and ignorant: it’s a bad thing), and it’s really starting to grate every time I open up a shot of the game.

There's always the chance that the gameplay won't suck, of course, but that would be far too optimistic of me.

My impression of the gameplay that I've seen to this point.

swoop, swoop, swoop, swoop, swoop, swoop, swoop, swoop, swoop, swoop, swoop, punch.

swoop, swoop, swoop, swoop, swoop, swoop, swoop, swoop, swoop, swoop, punch.

A UI littered with cues to press buttons. At first I was excited about the investigation aspect. Well all I've seen regarding that was from the "Swoop demo" where the term investigation is laughable at best.

Still holding out hope that they're saving the mediocre footage for closer to release.

Lame. Probably have some fun gameplay earlier stages, where you dont fight the hulk (bane) or the **** that evolving plant was.
Also, prepare for mecha Joker.

Did this remind anyone else of the last two resident evil games?

Looks fine to me.
This looks like it'll be a fun one time play through beat em up.

Can't wait to finally see some actual gameplay.

I hate you so much. I wish I could hate you to death.

Batman video games are srs. How dare they appeal to their core demographic!

So I am not the only one who is not looking forward to this now. I agree Ivy has NEVER been a good character :|

She's HOT! I'll buy

I can't tell if you are really good at sarcasm or just really good at pissing people off unintentionally :|

A little of both i've been told.

I didn't know that so many of you disliked the animated series, seeing as Poison Ivy and Bane are pretty similiar to their BTAS / TNBA counterparts.

The general opinion from educated people (IE: Samon and myself and probably a few others) is that the TAS art style and character simplicity was great when we were kids, but this game is geared towards adults and we expect more. I still love watching the animated series, don't get me wrong, but it's geared towards kids and you like it for what it is.

But... Well, it's like how The Dark Knight movie is much more 'grown up' from Batman Forever / Batman and Robin. We expect more than what was already done in the early 90's. There was definite potential here to explore characters in new ways, and it was completely disregarded, and we have no respect for that.

Samon's first reaction was "She's always been a bad character" which is true, and it seems like no move has been made to rectify that. And then of course AlanZeros (the 5 zeros I imagine correspond to his IQ) saying that "she's HOT! I'll buy" revealing that the real problem is probably the amount of ****ing morons that are out there who will buy any thing with flashing lights and pretty pictures.

Argh. The Dark Knight was quite fun, but it was not THAT well written. Nolan's version of Ivy would probably be a boring environmentalist who gives speeches about justice just like every single character does in the Nolanverse. I won't defend this game too much, though, because the writing does seem to be pretty mediocre. I just get tired of Nolan fans going apeshit at the other Batman products being more unrealistic.

but it's geared towards kids and you like it for what it is.

But the writing in TDK is just barely better than BTAS's most well written episodes.

I did not make the claim that TDK is amazingly written. What I said is that TDK is more grown up than the previous movies. It is far from perfect. And this game is proving - so far - to be a step backwards to the garbage of the previous movies. It is drawing too heavily on the original source material and it is making little - if any - effort to be something unique and special.

They should make a DC vs Marvel game like.....now!

that would be something worthwhile to talk about

I don't think it is a matter of realism at all. It is more an argument of what is shit and what is not. If you think the claim to fame with Nolan's series is realism, you are so wrong.

TDK wasn't above and beyond in terms of writing, but to claim it was merely 'quite fun' is, unfortunately, a significant oversight (but, you have revealed yourself to be a keen detractor of the film before: http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showpost.php?p=2913740&postcount=967, whatever purpose that comment serves - TDK treat its audience like idiots? Watchmen played 99 Luftballons during the dinner scene for ****s sake) - TDK is competent and ambitious in what it sets out to do, and it embraces, and sublimely executes, the dualism between Batman and Joker in ways few can aspire to. It is not a perfect film, but it is very special and, without argument, very good. You might find its Shakespearean tones more pretentious than enjoyable, but Batman, and the characters that inhabit the world, are vessels for themes such as justice and vigilantism and the exploration of their role in society, and Nolan explores them wonderfully.

Poison Ivy looks shite. They are retroactively exploring a character that is inherently mediocre and coating it in further layers of thick, smelly horse manure. Why don't they just go the whole nine-yards and bring in Uma Thurman? It's funny that you joked Nolan's version would be a "boring environmentalist" - that's actually exactly what she was in Batman and Robin.

If you're looking for true mediocrity and a film that fails to transcend even TAS, look no further than Batman Begins.

So you don't like Batman begins anymore?
True the poison gas thing was a bit silly, but that movie is fucking awesome man.

I've hated Begins more and more with every watch. It is merely a competent comic-book movie. It does not do justice to its themes, character, or plot. It has potential, but it is squandered at every available opportunity. Scarecrow is wasted; Gotham is sound-stage mess with appalling art direction; Holmes sucked; Ra's Al Ghul's 'plot' was laughable and... and... oh, god, it blows.I blame David Goyer.

Gotham is sound-stage mess with appalling art direction

I'm going to disagree with you here. Begins' Gotham felt far more like the comic book Gotham. Dark Knight's setting was unmistakably Chicago.

I hate all of you "WHAT YOU SAY YOU ARE GOING TO ENJOY THIS GAME? WELL YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO ENJOY THIS GAME BECAUSE I CAN'T, STOP HAVING FUN BAWWWWW" dick heads.
