Battle for Middle Earth 1 and 2 Question

A buddy of mine just dropped off LOTR Battle for middle earth both 1 and 2 at my place and told me to try them. I have played the first level of 1 and hate it. I was hoping for warcraft 3esqueness and got some crappy "walk though a cave" junk. Does 1 get better? Is 2 better? I need to do some building and mount a seige or 2. Not fight in a cave. If they improve I'll galdly stay with it since I know somtimes things improve. Should I head right to 2? I only have the games for a few weeks and I don't get a lot of time to play.

You played the first level.

I've heard two is better.

But, play more than one level.
First levels are usually tutorials.

BfME1 follows the films, apart from the evil campaign (should have started that one first.)

BfME2 is more about the books.

I prefer the second myself.

The campaign modes are story-based and play like the source material.
When you get to a point where you fight a massive battle with armies, you'll get your standard RTS fare.

Give it more time, they're pretty fun games.
