anyone seen it? i watched it today in my film club and man all i have to say after seeing it is that its got to be one of the most violent movies ive ever seen. basically its about this class of 9th graders who are put on an island, given some type of weapon and to kill anyone you see. they wear these collars that explode if they do something wrong or if there isnt a winner by the end of day three. the movie wasnt even released in the US, we had to watch it in subtitles. it was acutally pretty enjoyable though in some... weird way...

read about it here

Loved that movie, unfortunatly the circumstances under which I saw it weren't too ideal, so every time I watch it there is a bitter aftertaste :(

Wow, that sounds like an exagerated version of the story "The Game", a little too much if I do say so myself. Violence for just he sake of violence in movies is at a ridiculously high level these days.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. The movie has very little violance compared to modern movies. The genius of the movie is how it tries to show how far humans can be pushed to anything as long as their survival is at stake.

ie: your girlfriend is at the island and if you don't kill her, you're both gonna die (she has the same prospect), do you take the romatic path (ie: do a romio julia), take your own life, or waste her?

This is a very good movie, but too many people think "Whoa, a gory movie! I'll go see that!!" when infact tis like Iazcsavo said, quite a moveing story, or at least a chilling one, the reason its such a freaky movie is not the blood and gore, but the whole idea of these kids being pushed to kill each other, some of them hanging themselves and stuff.

Theres a BR2 but I dont know if its out, of if its subed, want to see it though.

BR2: not a complete waste of time, but nothing compared to the first, since most of the wow factor is gone.

Yeah I watched both of em 2 weeks ago, the 1st one is good but the 2nd not so.

On a children stranded on a desert island note, I just ordered Lord of The Flies from Amazon. Woo, cannibals.

You haven't read the book have you...

Lord of the Flies doesn't involve cannibalism, its about savagery, with a divison between the children, one side trying to hold onto democratic values, with the other side slipping into a more animalistic nature.

Also there are two movies, one in black and white (1963, Peter Brook as said by [matt]), and another in colour by some Yank.

Don't get the colour version, it's hardly a good conversion with dosens of flaws and overall is not enjoyable.

I saw Battle Royale a few years ago after a friend reccommended it... one of the best Japanese films i've ever seen. I need to see the second one but can't get hold of it ;(

I like the way it was a chilling story, excellently acted out, and not short of bloody horror... yet it managed to keep a lot of comedy hidden in there... like the way at the end the teacher gets pumped with a few hundered bullets, yet gets up and answers the phone when it rings, and only dies after eating one of his students cookies... lol

I dont think its that violent...i expected a real splatter when i first saw it..

nah it isn't that gory, I've seen far worse Japanese movies in terms of gore, but it's a good movie.

The film isn't about violence. Its about the rejection of moral values, the apathy of youth, and the inability of the state to control its populace.

Its a great film, and well worth watching. Do not watch anything other than the subtitled version.

No, I haven't. I mentioned it to a friend who said "Ooh, cannibals".

I loved that movie. It was pretty violent and could be kinda corny at times, but it was just really really good.

Lord Of The Flies was also really really good, pretty shocking too

I haven't seen the movie, but I have read the book. It was excellent!

Love this film,Well worth seeing but only in the Sub titled version.Films like this should never be dubed over,EVER.
On the topic of good films,Anyone here see the "Wicker Man"?

It was on TV a little while ago (UK) thought it was great, Now i want to see the second.

Wicker Man is really ****ing good.

I was on the edge of my seat at the end, waiting for some sort of rescue.

:(

TBH I wanted him to burn,I had enough of listening to that Christian Rethoric.

Well, yeah, but the rhetoric was the lesser of two evils.

i loved battle royal, it's like the most thoughtfull gory film ever made

I was going to watch BR at my friend's house, but goddamn is his computer a peice of crap.

It crashed right when that kids head was going to explode, right at the beginning

^good god i loved that part lolol

the only part that made me cringe really was
when that girl knifed that guys crotch, i couldnt even watch lol

I've always wanted to see this. Does anyone know where I can get it on DVD (US)?

LOL, unlucky nw909 you saw all the boring bits it just starts getting violent from then on. :flame: :sniper:

What was your favorite part of the film?

Mine was
The part at the end where the leader man gets shot in the house and the phone rings and he just gets up and answers it like nothing has happend. Then dies! LOL.

Am I missing some big picture or are you guys sicker than my cousin after eating that three month old pizza?
That movie was horrible! I may be too sensitive for this kinda thing or whatever, but that movie was one of the worst things I've seen!
It was a great movie, ye ye, no one seems to care about what happened to them kids! It's not real, yes I know, but what's so great about seeing a fifteen year old kid getting his head blown off or a girl getting a knife in her head? It wasn't even ment to be funny!
I kinda liked some of the dramatic sceenes however and they did great acting and so on, but it was simply to horrible for me to accept as a good movie.

And what kinda ending was that anyway?? I never really understood the entire moral in this movie.
Don't do... what now?...

I bet you all are gonna flame me like hell because you all love this movie, but I beg of you: try to explain to me what was so damn good about it instead.

Seriously, do you really like this movie or are you just tagging along with the crowd?

yes i do really like it.... yes its violent.... yes some people may not be able to stomach the violence...

The whole moral point behind the movie that i found interesting is how far would you go when your own survival is at stake? Could you kill someone if forced to or would killing someone else be so wrong to you that you would take your own life? If it was a choice between you dying or your girlfriend what would you do? Would your survival instinct take over and force you to kill her? Or would you sacrifice your own life to save hers?

I wouldn't bother trying to figure that out since I highly doubt I will ever have to make that choice. Anyway, it's true what you say. How are people gonna react at situations like these, but since the closest you're gonna get to things like that are the german concentration camps, I don't really think it ever will be a matter to worry about.
We can always speculate, but why should we even think about such horrible things as young 15 year-olds killing each other for their own survival?

Well, considering that child soldiers are a very real presence on this Earth maybe some people need reminding just how horribly violent real life is...

I saw the film and, surprisingly, I thought it was very good. It's violent, but not hyper-super-mega-ultraviolent like certain films (the main reason, I felt, for an 18 certificate here in the UK was the subject matter; and the fact that the majority of the victims were kids).

Considering that I steer clear of gratuitous gore- I happen to despise horror movies of that sort- I maybe concentrated more on the psuedo-ethical side of the film; seeing how the characters coped in the madly outlandish situation they'd found themselves in.

'Course, plenty of people despised the film- but considering one review I read claimed that those who managed to "find a moral foundation" in the film "were trying to justify their own sickening views" I didn't take all of them too seriously. Plus one critic slammed the film, claiming the characters were rendered souless because "they bear the clone-like features of the orient". And no, it wasn't written by the BNP.

This is not a film for the faint hearted or those that don't like watching streams of red paint- if you're shocked by violence, particularly involving children, then expect that to dominate the experience and ruin anything else you might have got from the film.

Guess being desensitised by all those games helped, eh? Heheh...

Well, I just watched the movie. I'd have to say that it was a pretty good movie even though there were some changes between the book and the film. The movie didn't elaborate enough on how everyone was killed, but it still did a decent job of telling the story.

i liked the film. really different, quite refreshing. dont see much like it.
