Anyone play it? If so what class do you prefer? I prefer assault or anti tank. Only thing I hate about the game is the tkers.

We tk together...
We drive people insane together...
Smacktards for life.

[music] x gonna give it to ya

let it go! let it go! [/music]

BF is good for only a week. All you do is kill ppl and touch flags. Enemy Territory is better. You can do objectives and get skill rewards...

hmm, normally i play Galactic Conquest (cos i helped make it) or Desert Combat. Never really like the original BF1942, although the Battle of Britain map is quality.

I like it, but it lacks communitcation

Very true, but when you get a decent team going for it its great fun.

Anyway... to answer the orginal question, I use Assault and Medic classes.

I dont like the anti tank, hes noobish. I use the same thing as Jager

i like the scout (sniper). its good for the realy big maps

I play desert combat exclusively. I consider myself a capable bradley driver, tank driver, heli pilot, and aircraft pilot. I cannot use artillery for crap and sniping is far too tedious for me. I play all the other classes though, mainly hvy assault, assault, and anti tank.

that game has some hillarious moments in it though

I play alot of Desert Combat, although i try the new mods when they come out. Im usually anti-tank or heavy assault. When it comes to flyin i only use the mig, cause i think its the best.

I havnt played regular BF in months. I only play EoD, DC and GC. Vanilla BF just got really boring and i was sick of all the TKers and other smacktards(Not that theres not any in the mods of course)

Im playing a lot of Galactic Conquest now, I love flying the speeders and shootin' down the ties, Its a pity it only has 1 map T_T

I usually pick what I am according to the situation, if an enemy attacks in a walker I pull out an anti armor, if its just troopers ill just use assault.

I play sniper. I've gotten quite good at sniping now in-fact, although i haven't played in a while. On thing that really made me get better was that damn camera that points to the person who shot you. Because if you are a sniper, it makes it really difficult. You always have to move around the map.

Its fun game, but i sometimes have problems loading certain maps. If i try to join a server currently running one of the bigger maps, it normally crashes my computer. Although, strangely if I'm already in the server, everything works fine.

Ive got on board sound, and BF is all high pitched, I havent played it since the new patch came out, it ruined my sound ;(

i play dc and bf mostly just medic it gets boring after a while coz i like fast paced games .
but i love the dog figthing :)
are u from the bf forums ?

Medic all the time. i have played a lot of Dc, but the grenadelauncher ruined the CQBs like Berlin. May be the next patch will fix that up. I play alot of battlegroup 1942, and I'm eagerly awaiting Forgotten Hope.

No it didnt, it just made it harder. All DC did was ruin close combat... The sniper was FAR to powerfull (I got like 40 kills, 5 deaths on Berlin! With a sniper of all freakin classes! And that was NOT stationary sniping spawnzones, that was always being in the front of line, killing everything in front of me as I went along), not to mention the vehicles. And the SMAW... Murder :)
I like EoD more... Especially the huey control system... Oh wait, maybe that's cause I coded it, I might be partial :D

if people shoot grenades all the time, at ranges between 2-5 mteres, that ruins gameplay, if you ask me.

Oh well, this is as good a thread as any to make my first post here.

First up - Hi Munro, see you've done it again. Very nice site you have here and a very healthy community. Everyone at the Hussars says Hi and can you please stop knifing us as it took Tipplewick and Nursey ages to clean the blood off ours shirt after that scrum :)

I'm FanDancer and I use the tags [CoUk]FanDancer and [1stHssr]BrProudftSmith when I play BF. I'll probably stick with the FanDancer tags when I start play HL2 online.

I'm an exmember of the Battlefield1942.co.uk forums group which Munro set up last year. I say exmember because it's never really been the same since Munro left and I hope you folks appreciate him because we certainly missed him when he went. Things have kind of got ugly over there but the guys who really enjoyed in the community that Munro helped set up are working towards building something new and hopefully up to the standards of the man himself.

As to BF1942 - well the thing you have to remember is that BF is very different to Halflife. It's very much a team game, you don't get much out of the game as a lone wolf but in a well organised clan it really takes some beating.

The real key to BF is already been identified in an earlier post - communications. The in game comms are just about passable in small games but they are not up to the needs of a large team game. Thats why any serious player uses a voice comms system like TeamSpeak2.

The class system is designed to support the ethos of team play. An assualt player is stuffed against a tank unless he can get support from an AT player. In turn and AT player is stuffed in hand to hand unless he is supported by assault troops. Similarly the teaming of scout and artillery depends on good team work.

This team work doesn't earn you any extra points. In fact classes like engineer and medic often score poorly if they are doing the right thing and supporting the other players instead of seeking kills and points.

So what in it for you if you don't come out with the highest score in the game? Well, when a team comes together and works well it is a real joy to behold - nothing beats a combined attack on a flag with everyone working as a slick machine. And nothing is scarier than being alone at a flag and suddenly seeing three tanks, an APC and two jeeps out riding the flanks all heading for your post and about to stomp on your head.

It's a different kind of game and it's not to everyones taste but it's worth playing if you like playing in a team every now and again.

For those of you looking to see how BF should be played try playing on the co.uk servers which run nightly from 7pm UK time.
IP server #1 (BF server): 138.37.208.227:14567
IP server #2 (DC server): 138.37.208.227:14568
TS2 Voice Server available - just ask an admin ingame and well tell you the IP and password
We try to run a very open and fair server and the few rules we have are designed to help keep the flow of the game fast moving.

And any friend of Munro's is always welcome.

I play a which class is needed, if there are loads of Assault, i'll play a Anti-tank, if there are just normal amounts i'll play assault...although i've never got the hang of the flying the planes...which is wierd because i can in real life.... :(

in Wolfenstien: Enermy Territory, I play a medic...

In Vietcong, I play a Grunt

and in RPG games, i play a Ranger....

My name is usually Stone_Krush on most games, although in RPGs I usually play a female called Faith

Enemy territory kind of killed of my desire to play anything else, its a pretty flaw less game.

Really? I played ET but didn't really like it as much as bf1942.

I like to use stealth when playing bf1942. Like I'll parachute undetected behind enemy lines. Then when I see a group of enemies I try to resist the urge to go rambo style and run out with my smg. I'll pick off a lone guy running and go prone behind things to aviod being detected by tanks and infantry.

What's you're guys play style. Stealth or Rambo style?

Medic, I'm the one that can be seen running across exploding fields getiing shot at trying to help that guy lead on the floor shooting for me...

hehe, sometimes you even get a thanks... :cheese:

(thats my play style by the way)

I play blitzstyle. Suddenly dropping out of the sky, taking a point and geting away.

Well I only play against bots (damn dial-up connection ;( ) So I don't get as much out of it as I could. The class I play almost exclusively is the Scout.

How many of you are bf1942 pilots? I like to fly upside down to show off in mp games :D My specialty is a bomber. Dive-bombing is a good tactic for pilots. What I can't stand about the flying system in bf1942 though, is when people just fly over a base then jump out, and let their million dollar plane just crash into the ground while they parachute to safety. Oh and we all can't forget my personal favorate...getting blown into the air by a grenade and parachuting down.

Also do you use a joystick when flying a plane? Or keyboard and mouse?

I use a joystick, and have developed quite some skill in level bombing (using fighter planes), since I'm usually a very low flying pilot (below treetopheight).

I like flying. I use a joystick too. Its so much better than a mouse and key board.

Im not sure of the map, its a desert one. I think it may be gazzala and it has lots of canyons and stuff in it. I love flying through them in a spitfire (my favourite plane in the game:)). Dive bombing is cool, but you dont get so much of the screeching sound as they had in real life.

I don't play bf1942 that often.
Shouldn't have bought it.

But when I do play I'm flying.
But not with joystick... thats crippling. :p

maybe I should play some now...
To see if I still master the very much "1337" vertical landing. :dork:

But when I play online I never get to fly. ;(

Edit: I didn't... ;(
Now I got no reason to play.

People are very selfish most of the time. It doesnt always make the team lose, because often the other team is the same. It just makes for crappy games. Everyone wants their one thing, and if they dont get it they moan for ages and sit there waiting for what they want. Rather than getting on with playing, its annoying. Sometimes, you try to play around them, or fit in with what they are doing. So if loads of people are going for the planes, then you just go for a tank or whatever. Ive never been in a clan on BF1942, but i can really see the advantages it has over solo. Sometimes, when you get a good group of people, everyone plays together with a plan and its a really fun game, even you die the most.

I only play the demo. Even then I dont go online that much.
A lot of 56k haters in BF1942.

But from the games I have played I have figured out somethings.

I don't know how to snipe for shit. I know I have to lead my targets, but still I have no clue on how much. If I could get a rough estimat then I could get better.

Give me a view, a target, artillery, and it will be raining hell on that spot until another request is ordered. (I am very good at artillery in other words.)

Anti-Tank is the class of mine. Too bad I always meet that lone soldier in our base before I get to a enemy tank.

I fly with a mouse and keyboard, and I am pretty good if I don't lag too much.

Farrow. Could you give me some lessons with sniping sometime?

well i only really play dc...the current version .38 has some major balance issues and some lag problems......im hoping the new patch .39 will fix ALOT of the bs ...and make it a little more fun...

right now in dc my favorite class is anti-tank.......only for the fact that it is the most powerful..... even if it is cheap

imo there are 3 keys to sniping.....

1. lag .....if you have a crappy ping or are getting some nice packet loss......dont waste the teams resources as a sniper..... you wont hit shit most of the time...no matter how good you are..

2. leading the target and waiting for the right moment...... just find a large server with plenty of targets and a nice ping...... leading just takes practice....but its better to wait for a good shot (headshot) as that is an instakill.....

3. dont stay in one spot......even if you are not out in the open....dont stay in one place and kill to many peeps...you will be found...becuase after you snipe them a few times people will get pissed and come looking for you....

thats how you end up with a knife in your ass...

Yeah thats why I hate being a sniper. I can never hit the guys in snipe mode. I know what it's like to be constantly sniped being how I'm usually an assault trooper. Being base camp sniped really sucks. Sometimes I get so mad at it, I join the other team and find the sniper in spec mode and come back and kill the guy. :)

Arg i hate people that do that, join th other team 2 find u that is, it really annoys me and people who descide to join the other team and just plant c4 all over the boats destroying them, and then joining the other team again :flame:

hm...there is an easy way to piss the hell out of basecamping snipers: zig-zagging. Don't run straight around, change your direction randomly all the time. Sometimes you hear the bullets come close to you, but the rarely hit. Once the sniper has picked up another target, you can start looking for him. Check for small hills around the base that don't belong there. or shoot a salvo into a bush that looks conspicious.

leeding shoots is much of guesswork. At midranges, using my thrusty MP 40, I usually shoot 3-shot salvos, until I hit, and then fullautomatic. Works good.
