Yeah yeah yeah, this should be in the BF subforum but I wanted it to get more attention because this is a sweet, sweet rumor and I'm a power-abusing moderator.

Kotaku said:
According to Electronic Arts' schedule at the official NYCC web site, Battlefield 1943: Pacific post cards will be handed out at the show. Yes, post cards. That listing has recently been removed, but is available via Google Cache here. Whether it was removed because someone at EA or DICE had a fit over its stealth reveal or whether the publisher has decided to push the game's official announcement back, we frankly don't know.

For X360 and PS3, fully destructible environments (on updated BC engine) and rumored to be on PC although nothing definitive is known.

It better be for PC, I'd love to play a fully-destructible Guadalcanal or Iwo Jima.

My grandpa fought on Guadalcanal...I'd definitely love to see it in game.
here he is:

My God... to relive the glory days of Battlefield 1942...

That's what I'm saying. It's about time we had a true sequel to the best game in the series - BF1942.

Plus, it being Pacific-only, there's sure to be a lot of tasty air and sea battles.

I doubt that we will see any new BF titles for the PC any time soon.
Apart from Battlefield Heroes, i mean. They just started the 2nd beta phase.
Another WW2 with full destructible environments would be nice though. The original had the best dog fights and it still does.

With no super fast light-speed jets! Oh it sounds like heaven!

If it's a console game, then **** it.

I want a proper addition to the franchise, another main title, like BF1942 and BF2 were.

A Bad Company sequel was also announced for 2010. So does that mean that Bf:1943 will be released on PC and consoles with Bad Company 2 on consoles only in 2010? Hmmm.

This best be on PC, I won't be best pleased if it isn't :arms:

BF1942 was my favorite MP game of all time. I'd love to play a sequel, I really hope this comes out for the PC.

I feel kind of guilty for never getting into BF2 though, it seems like a good game from the demo I've played but it's probably too old to get now(I don't mind graphics, I'm talking about the online community).

Dear God, yes!
I've been wanting a next-gen BF1942 forever, if it isn't for the PC I'll be pissed.

Unlike the original game, which was only released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Bad Company 2 will also get a PC release. DICE promises a "level of fervor to vehicular warfare never before experienced in a modern warfare action game."

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is not expected until early next year, but gamers will still get their Battlefield fix this year as Battlefield 1943 will be released this summer.

In development for PC, PlayStation 3 (through the PlayStation Store) and Xbox 360 (Xbox Live Marketplace) and using the same engine that powers Bad Company 2, Battlefield 1943 will feature 24 player action and three classic Battlefield locations: Wake Island, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima.
Errr WHAT! 24 players?! WTF. :x http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/57100

I hope they have the ships from the first game, I remember I got my broadband connection the day the Wake island demo came out, and spent all week trying to take out the ships with the torpedo planes, the actual full game seemed like a slippery bug fest when it came out, but it still had greatness.

PC gamers are basically getting a Bad Company mod. Why don't they release Bad Company for us too? Ugh, this just further proves that developers don't give a shit about PC gamers anymore.

If it's download only it had better be available on steam :|

Seems good though to have a sequel to 1942 but it does seem like a budgety release with the 24 players and live marketplace/psn releases.

They can't release the same BF 1943 for the consoles and the PC and make it good. That's because consoles are like retarded children, when it comes to multiplayer, in comparison to the PC (well, not only in the multi department). And since there's this policy of downgrading games to fit the console capabilities, there will be COMPROMISES and that sucks for the PC.

Actually I'm pretty new to console multiplayer - are there console games with server browsers, or do I only get to choose the gamemode and then the game chooses a server for me?

DICE made a master peace BF2.

I see this one fail, "no Apache"....... no modern weapons.

BF3 F.G.S

BC2 and 1943 for both PC and the consoles.

24-player only? If that is true then the Battlefield series is dead to me.

And I hope BC2 isn't a direct sequel to BC or anything like that. It's sort of stupid to release the second game of a series to PC and not the first one...

**** this BS. A PC sequel to BF2 with 64 players pls.

I agree, why would they release BC2 for PC and console but the first was console only. Judging by this screen shot, it seems it is a sequel because you can see Sweetwater's glasses(the guy that's last, closest to the screen)

I would be ecstatic if BF2 was updated to the Frostbite engine.

12 players on each team? **** dat.

Maybe it's a typo and it's 24 per team?

I have noticed that DICE screw up a lot. DICE made BF2 and it was great until they patched it. They said they fixed bugs but in actuality they made new bugs and failed to fix bugs.

Then they go to the console and make Battlefield: Modern Combat which is pitiful compared to the real BF2 which is on the PC.

So they said screw BF2 and BF:MC we are going with BF2142 and it's been in dev at the same time as BF2. This game is also screwed up so again DICE fails.

DICE creates Bad Company for consoles only after realizing they suck with the PC and realize XBOX 360 is the way to go. Bad Company fails with XBOX 360 users.

DICE creates Battlefield: Heroes a free game in beta for the PC. PC users see horrible gameplay and a rip-off of TF2. Another failed game that is still in beta.

DICE creates Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 1943. Already BF1943 sucks because it's 24 player combat.

In conclusion I don't know why people still like DICE games. I think people think they will return to their former glory by making BF3 for the PC. In reality they were never a good company to begin with. DICE can't see their major fan base is still with BF2 and make a sequel to that. Instead they do everything but make a BF3.

12 players per team works perfectly in my opinion so I'm fine with that. I've got nothing but bad memories of the cluster**** that is Battlefield 2 and it's broken ass mechanics, whereas I love Bad Company and Project Reality (not really part of the same argument, mind, but I love what they did to the game in terms of fixing the hell out of it)

I must remind you that on one of the larger maps of TF2, you can quite happily have 32 players running about.
Now bear in mind these maps are at least 3 or 4 times larger than a large TF2 map.

Anyone know what's happening with Battlefield: Heroes? Has it been cancelled in light of this new announcement?

EDIT: Apparently due for release in "the first three months of 2009". I'm surprised it hasn't been publicized as such.

Bad Company has some damn big maps and that works fine, or at least in the conquest mode where you can traverse bigger maps at your own free will instead of hitting points in Gold Rush order (and still, Gold Rush maps are pretty big, even in each individual attack/defend section)

Not to mention that the three maps shown (the only three) don't look that big anyway, and I know Wake Island, or at least in previous BF games, isn't that big in infantry size, though huge for air battles but really, you aren't going to get 40+ players in helicopters and aeroplanes anyway.

3 maps...?

Battlefield 1943 is merely an appetizer for the big meal; BC2.

Judging that it's going straight to Digital Download i.e. XBA and PSN and whatever they use for PC downloads, a title from EA which usually produce hard copy of big releases, i'd say it would go for $10-$20 max, personally I think $15 would be the sweet spot

I dont see any problems with 12 player teams.I still play BF2 & BF:BC now and i enjoy them, the only one who has failed here is you.

I have had all day now to think about my reaction to this news and after long delibirations it sums up to "f*** this shit". The limited number of players sucks ass. And just three maps? Wtf man. Plus Wake will be remade for SECOND TIME! How lazy can you be as a developer? DICE can f*** off and die for all I care. This fanboy has stopped being one.

12 players? **** that. From the video it looks like wake island is about the same size. Wake island wasn't all that crowded with 64 players, 24 players will be lame.

Having 24 players is not OK. That means that either you'll be playing on Battlefield-sized maps(which seems to be the case here) and therefore you'll have to run around for several minutes after each spawn to even see the enemy, or they'll have to downsize the maps to accommodate 24 layers, in which case it just becomes another generic FPS with vehicles.

Battlefield is about huge amounts of players on huge maps blowing the shit out of each other.

colors are too vibrant, almost looks like a disneyland attraction.

I'd say BF2 is better now, after the patches, than before. They've fixed a lot of things, left some things unfixed, but I don't know what bugs they introduced, that you're talking about.

I agree with BF2:MC being crap, from what I saw. That's not what I'd like to see again.

BF2142, aside from the fact that it's more like a huge expansion than a full game, it is actually a good game, which addresses some annoyances BF2 has - instant-kill artillery, no way to go around claymores, overpowered air vehicles, slightly overpowered vehicles in general, nade spamming - that's practically gone in 2142. Definitely not a screw-up, it has a large player base.

I bought Bad Company and finished it. It was fun for a while, but it felt somewhat unpolished and uninspired. I slightly regret buying it.

Haven't played BF:H, but from the media I saw, it looks crap in terms of gameplay and visual style (even though I'm OK with TF2).

As for the 24-player limit in BF1943 - it shows how consoles hinder the development of new games and gaming in general. Not that I like to play BF2 on 64-player maps - I don't like the spamming and general cluster**** that comes with it, but still 24 as a MAXIMUM is laughable.

Yeah the soldiers in particular.

Also ditto to what ppl said about Wake. 24 players on that big map = fail. The best time I had with BF2 was playing the smaller maps with large numbers of players. 32 Karkand map with 64 players or even the 16 player map with 32 players. Yeah it could become a giant ass**** if there was only 1 point left to cap and 32 guys were spawning from it but sneaking through the lines FTMFW!!! BF2 nostalgia assholes *sobs

Anyway, I say the PC version will accomodate more than 24, just like Quake Wars and Frontlines did on PC.
