although the title dosent make any sense to me, (what the fseck was bf1? heh) anyways the latest in EA's battlefield series (for pc anyway) is on it's way of being announced. Details will im sure be included at e3 so make sure to not miss out on that while we all drool over VALVe's display :p im sure this is the top secret title that Trauma studios and EA have worked on. Although I dont care about the title they recently announced for ps2 (bf:modern combat) as it is on out of date hardware and wont lets face it be that technologically impressive. im more impressed for this title

http://www.computergaming.com/article2/0,2053,1569555,00.asp <---- original article

il certainly purcahse the game as I love the battlefield games especially when you play with a team full of people who actually play instead of tk and smacktard about like idiots.... anyways expect more details very soon

Looks like it's going to be a Black Hawk down type game. The screenshot looks impressive but it looks like ingame models that have been pre-rendered.

This looks pretty nice. But, I have to get teh KotOR 2 issue. I loved the first game.
/me scrounges up the money I have

I have to say I'm getting pretty tired of the battlefield series. Its starting to not offer anything new to the table. I wish they would just lay low for a while now and create something that would blow our pants off instead of just keep making slightly newer stuff to keep us occupied for a while. Like a huge overhaul on the graphics or destructible environment.

We'll to me BF Secret Weps (I own) and BF Vietam (A friend owns) where just addons with things the original BF should've had.

And the deal with needing an Uber machine just to keep a stable FPS I won't get started on. I only said that becuase playing over the network for a game with my brother with his 1.7ghz intel chip, 512mb SD ram, GF2MX 400 can be rather difficult at times.

I just read that Computer Gaming article and the only way I'm buying this one is if it plays like Conflict Desert storm 1 or 2 I got both, Now theres an excellent example for what a modern combat sim should be like except theres no multiplayer feature.

More things keep coming to my head. For this to be called BF2 the engine should get a decent overhaul, not a half assed one like Secret Weps and Vietnam.

BF:2.... oh goody
the pic in that article looks like normal Desert Combat (yawn) I wont pay full price for another mod under the guise of a "sequel" again.

Dice turned BF into an EA franchise... lets release crap monthly!!!
:/
bah... gimme HL2 and a BF mod for it... should beat the crap outta BF.

And this isn't that?

i hope it is, but most likely not becuase it would take a lot of time to make a new engine that could do that stuff, one would think. And at the rate at wich dice/ea is churning out games it seems pretty apparant that it wont be anything amazing. like other poeple said nothing more than a really good mod.

just speculating..

I like how you people can judge a whole game just from one screenshot and no information what so ever.

Oh and people who think BF:V was nothing but a mod have NO clue.

BF 2 == DC only with another engine and I suspect you must buy this game in store

DC is a great mod :)

Humans are very perceptive.

Bf needs something like UT assualt don't ya think? For example using c4 destroy the iraqi anti aircraft enplacements and all of their refueling helicopters.

Yet some people won't pay for an updated version on a new engine crammed with what are no doubt GREAT new features, weapons, vehicles and maps.

Why does everyone keep calling BF:V just another mod or something the original Battlefield should have had? I mean when BF:1942 came out I never heard people say this game should have helicopters, thick layered foliage, less identical classes, and licensed songs from the era to play from your jeep or attack chopper. They never said this because they were to busy having fun and not whining about stuff. BF:V is not a mod it brings plenty of new things to the table. Why do people seem to have some inherent hatred for the BF games now.

because DC did it much better, in less time and without the sort of financial backing Dice had for BF.

Yeah, I agree, KoTor 2 will be better. I don't see what people like in the original BF;"Vehicles"-That's all.

But my money is on Painkiller... :O
or Star Wars Beat 'em up action fighter.

I think the desert combat signed up an agreement to work for DICE, maybe battlefield 2 could be the result. It does look too similar to be a coincidence.

oh, i wasnt sure, i hadnt dl'd the demo, my friend said it was really great...oh well heh

the battlefield games are such a corporate machine. to go from BF1942 to BF:V is hardly an update at all. they might as well just charge for patches to the engine instead.

Electronic Arts are showing off Battlefield: Modern Combat at E3.

DICE should have stepped out ot the spotlight for a couple of years developing something to truly amaze us. This is too quick to expect anything that will be a signifcant leap from BF1942.

Its boring as hell.

I like it and so do other people, it's just that you really can't defend it so we keep our mouths shut.

It seems that most people don't appreciate pure violence anymore...

Bf has it's quirks I'll grant anyone that, but the whole points system gets on my nerves. Surley they could have thought up a more interesting way to win battles i.e. King Of The Hill (in other words hold a location for a duration of time) or something I'd find VERY interesting would be a match where the vehicles don't respawn that way you'd have to use them wisley.

It's funny, I hear you people slamming Dice and EA yet you havn't said ANYTHING about UT2003/4 which use the same engine or HL, Op Force and Blue Shift.

What a bunch of hypocrites.

nope, the discussion at hand was pertaining to the battlefield series...
I dont believe anyone said UT2k/4 and Epic ruled, in this thread... so I dont see where the hypocrites are.

also to clarify:
*Battlefield: Vietnam (which I own) was sold as a stand alone product and claimed to be a sequel, not an expansion pack.

*OpFor and Blue shift (which I also own) were sold as Official expansion packs.

a more direct comparison for Opfor/Blueshift and the BF series, would be made between BF:secret weapons of war, and BF: road to rome (which I also own both).
those are called official expansion packs.

Battlefield: Vietnam, is basically the equevelant to UTk4 (Ut2k4 is to Ut2k3 as Bf:V is to BF:1942)
the only real differences come in quality and quantity... which is up for debate.
some people like the new undergrowth and overgrowth and bumpmapping in BF:V
others love the 100+ maps of UT2k4.

I do not own UT2k4, its not my type of game... in fact the only thing Epic has made (in recent memory) that I enjoyed... was the original Unreal. (which I do own)

to summarize, I dont know where you get off calling people hypocrites, for NOT slamming something (when they never attested to liking it).
either you like something or you dont, people have different opinions, and they express them differently.
Attack the debate/issue, instead of the people whose opinions differ.

I think Battlefield is one of those things you either like or you don't. Its hard to defend it because there are problems and quirks with it. But you start playing and all of a sudden its midnight, or you hang out with friends and play and laugh yourself sick.
I'll be honest and say that for me Battlefield is really just a stepping stone between Tribes games, my one real addiction. But it managed to push the entire idea foward farther than anyone had done before. I remember reading one of the previews for it and saying "This has to be BS, theres no way they can pull this off."

Why spend 50 bucks on a game like that if I can pop in my Q1 cd and get the same gameplay out of it. There were only like 5 total weapons in the game.

For each class... And there are vehicles... And bigger maps... And more players...

Gamespy today has an interview focusing on Battlefield 2, and it looks to be just what people here are looking for.
First: Totally new engine.
Second: New style of gameplay similar to NS, where there is a commander leading the team.
Third: Scalable maps in which the playable area expands and contracts depending upon the number of people on the server.
This really looks to be something special.

I must say, before you posted this, I was not even interested in this game, eventhough I'm a massive BF1942 fan. But now you've made me interested again :)
I do feel DICE is a very talented developer, but they're being limited by EA in terms of taking enough time to balance/fix bugs and modsupport.

I have to be honest that this really gets me going to. Good to know that we won't see the series die here, even if I am playing Tribes instead. :D
Edit: Great Googly Moogly!
Battlefield 2 will support over 100 players in some of the largest online battles on the PC.
Each map in Battlefield 2 adjusts in scale to support the number of players in the world, providing the ideal vehicle-to-player ratio and an optimized game play experience. So, you can still have tight 16-player games with the option of growing it to 100-players
Additionally, Battlefield 2 showcases an all-new game engine and physics system to bring the modern battlefield to life like never before.
The new material penetration feature measures weapons’ ability to fire through barriers based on their composition and players will need to know the difference between concealment and cover in order to survive.
Battlefield 2 features immense, richly detailed, destructible environments, from city streets to remote forests.
Enhanced team play features allow players to enter the action on the front lines as part of a formal squad, or work behind the scenes in Commander Mode to direct the strategic assaults of their teammates.

No kidding....that makes me sweat thinking about it. :farmer:

Forget BF, theres a new game coming out called Joint Operations (yes, maruijhana joint, get it, funny haha!) thats like BF but much better. Theres a demo out too. It's at http://www.novalogic.com/.

Incedentally, I think BFV was more than mod sold at retail price. It's not an essential purchase but the helicopters are better than DC's and that's the only comparison there can be with DC. All the maps are new and brilliant, the AI is much improved and now obeys commands, it's got brilliant new customisation options, an incredible soundtrack, vehicles and classes are vastly improved and it's all so much more polished.

EDIT: Damn! Can't believe I forgot about Roll-up Ops. I want that, too.
