Battlefield 2....

So, it's what bf should have been?

The biggest gripe that I have with battlefield is that you can't walk around in vehicles. Especially the large helicopters.

Yes you can. If you just walk into them as opposed to pressing E then you'll stay in them. And passengers in the DC hind can be inside if the doors are closed. As long as the vehicle has an open back or sides.

EDIT: Being everything bf should have been is no bad thing. Surely that makes the original the bad game...?

It depends upon the vehicles. Battlefield itself didn't really have any simply becuase they were mostly too small.
DC on the other hand, allows you to walk freely inside of many of the larger helicopters and planes. Just don't surprised if you accidently fall out the back. :D
Anyone else notice from the screen shots that BF2 is going to have the Osprey?

Yeah, but (atleast last time i played dc) it was VERY buggy, now in JO, its perfect.

Brings back some horrible AC-130 memories.

"Pull up! Pull up!"
"Shiiit!"
"No wait! Don't pull up! Don't!"
"Grab my hand!"
"I...can't...reach....noooooo!"
Splat.
"How many times do I have to tell him? It's HIgh Altitude Low OPENING!"

The one thing I want from Battlefield 2 is for them to spend a lot of time on the infantry physics/movement system. I want them to treat going on foot like more than just a glorified way to get from vehicle to vehicle.

... and if they could make better net code that would be good, too.

I just dont want them to rush out another title bcause ea told them to.

I want a 'blow-your-socks-off game.'

It takes time to do that. TAKE SOME TIME AND MAKE IT OWN DICE. DONT LISTEN TO EA!! :)

Well it seems that EA just handed them a bunch more cash and six extra months. Hows that?

pfft 6 months? hardly enough time to make anything groundbreaking. look at hl2, more like 6 years.

Thats six more on top of what they'd originally planned. Not just 6 total.

It was planned to be released this fall, but due to the success of the other games they pushed it back to allow more time for development.
Another good quote: "With in-game success, players increase their rank from recruit all the way to General and unlock awards, including new weapons, vehicle decals, medals, and more."

painkiller sucks? ive never seen gamespy give a good review to a bad game.

eitherway, i just got into bf42 and im looking forward to this game, and will more than likely buy it :D along with stalker farcry doom 3 galaxies :(

DAMN this sounds sweet! Battlefield was addictingly fun by itself, but the features that weren't implemented (for example shooting a building won't do anything or hurt anyone inside it) prevented it from being absolutely mind-blowing.

I remember when I have never even heard of BF1942, and my friend showed the demo to me at his house. You can get in ALL of these vehicles? SWEET! Whoa... you can fly planes? Damn this looks cool...

The main downfall with it, IMO, was the infantry experience. The netcode was strange and it just didn't have that special *feel* to it. Leading shots where the target is 5 feet in front of you, and close quarters battles that were so insanely silly they had me rollin on the ground laughing half the time.

Battlefield 2 sounds like it's going to be everything Battlefield 1942 was, but without these cons and with promising technology. If DICE can pull this off, I am going to shit my pants. Again. I know CS has turned into complete crap, but just imagine the feel of the moving around and shooting in CS combined with Battlefield 1942... wow.

This just gives me another reason to buy myself a beast computer and completely lock myself into my bedroom and play all of these insane titles being introduced this/next year. God I can't wait.

BFV still has that same infantry experiance. Its a little better. But now the vehicles suck compared to bf42. I cant wait for some decent mods...atleast the gfx are a little better and the character/class system is better also.

Bf1942 was a horrible engine... Infantry combat wasn't fun and the viechle physics were ****ing HORRIBLE

It wasn't bad at the time. Hell, it was cool that it HAD physics in a game that big.
Anywho, they just keep rolling out the info on this game, which they're going to have to stop doing before I have a heart attack.
Recently revealed is the ability to form squads and the fact that artillery this time is to be laser guided. You paint a target and all the artillery man has to do is fire the rocket for a dead on hit.

Looks like it's going to be a Black Hawk down type game. The screenshot looks impressive but it looks like ingame models that have been pre-rendered.

its desert combat ffs

and i also think the pics have been tampered with :hmph:

and they just keep making games easier :x

I have to agree with the artillery move myself. It took some major coordination between players who knew what they were doing to make artillery anything other than an annoyance on most maps. This makes it perfectly possible to get artillery going in a pub situation.
Another consideration is that this is a team competition game. It can't be easier, because both sides get the advantage.

check this out folks * Battlefield 2 will support over 100 players in some of the largest online battles on the PC.
* Each map in Battlefield 2 adjusts in scale to support the number of players in the world, providing the ideal vehicle-to-player ratio and an optimized game play experience. So, you can still have tight 16-player games with the option of growing it to 100-players
* Additionally, Battlefield 2 showcases an all-new game engine and physics system to bring the modern battlefield to life like never before.
* The new material penetration feature measures weapons’ ability to fire through barriers based on their composition and players will need to know the difference between concealment and cover in order to survive.
* Battlefield 2 features immense, richly detailed, destructible environments, from city streets to remote forests.
* Enhanced team play features allow players to enter the action on the front lines as part of a formal squad, or work behind the scenes in Commander Mode to direct the strategic assaults of their teammates.

That game will suffer from some serious lag and frame rate issues. I mean look at BF:V, an average game only has 20-25 people in it and the game has lag and frame rate issues.

bf2 could be good, since they are giving extra dev time, but I still wouldn't expect an overhaul of gameplay or something particularly awesome. If they did realistic deformation, and buildings toppling, that would certainly give a new twist to urban combat...

and as for painkiller, its pretty fun, not very original gameplaywise though :p and could have used more weapons.

These forums have too many UT2K3/4 fanboys IMHO.

On-topic: I personally loved BF:1942 and I like BF:V even better. I'll be sure to buy BF2; I am quite sure it'll rule.

I don't think anyone doubts that Battlefield 2 will be a huge success, what's interesting to me is wondering what we will be playing a couple years from now.

Will EA throw on some expansion packs for Battlefield 2? Or will we be playing Battlefield 2075 (aka "The Future")? Maybe Battlefield 1916(WWI)? If the sims is any indication EA will milk the Battlefield franchise for all its worth.

BF2 sounds really cool. i cant help feeling that it wont live up to the hype tho, and just feel like an updated version- despite all the info. i guess well see...

Incedentally, I think BFV was more than mod sold at retail price. It's not an essential purchase but the helicopters are better than DC's and that's the only comparison there can be with DC. All the maps are new and brilliant, the AI is much improved and now obeys commands, it's got brilliant new customisation options, an incredible soundtrack, vehicles and classes are vastly improved and it's all so much more polished.

EDIT: Damn! Can't believe I forgot about Roll-up Ops. I want that, too.

Look it's simple, it's EA, so it has no quality what so ever.
The game is (like BF1942 originally) probably full of bugs, and unfriendly for your hardware. It probably always crashes on Linux servers, and i'm pretty sure EA doesn't care about any of those issues, simply because thousands of stupid ppl are going to throw there many in the air for a copy.
