I thought upon to provide you all some information from Dice’s new classic in progress
BATTLEFIELD 2

Introduction:
The award-winning Battlefield franchise invades the high tech frontlines of modern warfare in the new sequel, Battlefield 2™. The game brings the intensity and excitement of Battlefield 1942™ into the modern era with enhanced team play and the latest, most technologically advanced vehicles and weapons systems available to man.

In Battlefield 2, players will choose to fight for one of three military superpowers: the United States, the Chinese, or the newly formed Middle East Coalition. Armed with the latest modern weaponry, players can take control of any of the game's 30+ vehicles to engage in major conflicts with over 100 players in some of the largest online battles on the PC. Additionally, persistent character growth allows players to rise through the ranks and attain the ultimate rank of General.

An all-new game engine and physics system brings the modern battlefield to life like never before. The new material penetration feature measures weapons' ability to fire through barriers based on their composition and players will need to know the difference between concealment and cover in order to survive.

Battlefield 2 features immense, richly detailed, destructible environments, from city streets to remote forests, in some of the most notorious hot spots around the world. Each map in Battlefield 2 adjusts in scale to support the number of players in the world, providing the ideal vehicle- to-player ratio and an optimized gameplay experience.

Enhanced team play features allow players to enter the action on the front lines as part of a formal squad, or work behind the scenes in Commander Mode to direct the strategic assaults of their team mates.

Soldier kits now affect vehicles that players utilize on the battlefield. For instance, the medic kit can transform a vehicle into a mobile aid station and the special ops kit can render aircraft undetectable to enemy radar.

I must say, and you can all judge for yourself while viewing these screenshots.

That this game will be fantastic and will create a worthy sequel for Battlefield 1942
Yup that’s right, Battlefield: Vietnam wasn’t a sequel but more of a version 1.5

And I must say that Dice must have some pretty smooth net code if it wants these following features to include within the game and without any huge lag
Features:
  • Battlefield 2 will support over 100 players in some of the largest online battles on the PC.
  • Each map in Battlefield 2 adjusts in scale to support the number of players in the world, providing the ideal vehicle-to-player ratio and an optimized game play experience. So, you can still have tight 16-player games with the option of growing it to 100-players
  • New state-of-the-art weapon systems, including heat seeking missiles and laser designated bombs.
  • To battle as U.S., Chinese, or Middle East Coalition troops, each with their own unique arsenals.
  • Take control of over 30 land, sea, and air vehicles per military force (USA, China, Middle East), including tanks, helicopters, hovercraft, fast attack vehicles, and fighter jets.
  • Additionally, Battlefield 2 showcases an all-new game engine with dynamic lighting and physics system to bring the modern battlefield to life like never before.
  • Character Persistence and Growth, with in-game success. Players increase their rank from recruit all the way to General and unlock awards, including new weapons, vehicle decals, medals, and more.
  • Full in-game community support including, buddy lists, stat tracking, live chat rooms, and in-game clan creation.
  • Join a squad or select the new Commander Mode to assume the strategic role of a battlefield commander directing his forces.
  • The new material penetration feature measures weapons’ ability to fire through barriers based on their composition and players will need to know the difference between concealment and cover in order to survive.
  • Battlefield 2 features immense, richly detailed, destructible environments, from city streets to remote forests.
  • A variety of solider classes, including: Assault, Sniper, Special Ops, Combat Engineer, and Anti-Tank units.
  • Voice-over IP supported with USB headset.

Discuss away people!

Looks awsome!, the developers of Desert Combat are helping in this one :D

The videos were quite nice, but there were some jerky animations and the sounds were a little off. I dunno, it's a while away, so this is just early media.

the gamespot is the same video altrough there are some stuff cut out and the quality is worse.
Unfortionatly I cant link the locations because they dont work when pasted in your browser window or pasted into media player 9

And I havent seen other mirrors yet :/

thanks anyway bro :)

Ive seen a vid and i am sold! I need this game, it looks to be the advance from ww2 games ive been looking for

I love how they're more focused upon teamplay than in Battlefield, but aren't forcing it. Your commander can give you orders, but you can tell him to go screw himself if you want, and all you need for artillery and airstrikes is someone to push the trigger once you give a target.
It really looks like they've taken what they've learned from Battlefield and applied it.

The final game won't be that immersive and realistic. If you go by the other Battlefiled games and their style, they all have crappy infantry combat, and the AI is terrible. I'm almost sure that the entire video is scripted to get you hyped up for the game. Every time I play the current battlefield games, someone is always being an asshole and taking our jets, flying them over our own base and napalming us to death while we sit around doing nothing because our base has NO means of defense. Then you get the guys who fly their Mi-8 over to your base and blow up every helicopter and vehicle and jet just as you get in them or just as the vehicles spawn. They relentlessly own you and play the game with butthole tactics.

It looks great on a video where you aren't playing, and it has nice graphics, but It is still being designed by the same people. BF:V desperately needs a patch. It isn't getting even a quarter of the attention from the developers as the last one did. They were always fixing the last one. But, here we are with a buggy, laggy, and unbalanced game that we have been playing for the past 3 months with no patch.

The US has no heat-seeking rocket launchers, and those own all helicopters when you play as a VC with a heat seeking launcher. There is no effective AA for the US. That NVA tank with the two guns just kills the helos and jets. And everytime I play it, our base gets taken over and our vehicles get stolen and then we get owned by our own stuff. Then we have to sit there and take it because our base doesn't have AA guns, machine guns, or SAM sites.

If you ask me, you shouldn't be able to use enemy vehicles in Battlefield games (at least helos and jets) mainly because it's unrealistic. How could you just jump into some helicopter you have never flown before and be a perfect pilot?

Rant over.

P.S. I haven't read any previews about it, so I'm basing my opinion on the last games which I know isn't fair. Sorry.

A somewhat valid rant, but I'd do some research first.
1) This isn't being made by the same people. It is being made by DICE, but Battlefield 1942 was made by the European-based DICE, while Vietnam was made by the Canadian-based team. I haven't seen it confirmed which it is that is doind this game, but it can't be the guys who did both of those since they are seperate teams.
2)They're obviously learning from their mistakes on the last one, and this new game shows that they've really put some though into it. They can't make the people you play with not assholes, but that can make them play fair.
3) Theres a patch for Vietnam on the way, but its taking them a long time to get all the problems and fixes sorted out.
4) As you said basing your opinion on the last game is idiotic. Thats like saying that DOOM3 will have sprite graphics because the last DOOM game did.

So it's gonna have 100+ player games huh? Maybe EA/Dice should work on getting the 64 player games running good first, not to mention the netcode in general. It's bad enough in BF:V, now add in the more advanced graphics engine and physics and you're asking for massive lag.

I think their problems lie in the current netcode built into the refractor 2 engine. But since they've totally started from square-one instead of updating like in Vietnam, they may be able to pull it off.
And just because it supports it doesn't mean most computers now have to handle it. It allows room for growth.

I really suggest getting some time away from what you are normally doing on the internet and read some of the reviews.

This game will still have the same old BF fun, but they are trying to put systems in to eliminate the lamers. At least trying to get the attention away from scoring points by killing, and putting team play and helping each other, with repairing vehicles and healing people on the first place. The new medal system will give medals to the people who repair, heal, and help other team members, instead of just rewarding the one with the most kills.

I think BF2 is going to be what BF1 should have been, a great FUN game that with good team play and providing a fun and great online experience, BF was never about the most realistic experience.

I'm a BF-fanboy, so I am sold already. One thing tho, I have this feeling its gonna be subscription based. Any word on that?

I highly doubt that Shakermaker, the only thing i can see thats going 2 be different server side is the stats server. and there's no way they going 2 charge us money for keeping stats.
