nice FX but they messed with it too much, ruined what made the original a classic.. Very poor job, sticking women into two main characters just to please the whiners. Richard Hatch couldn't help but show how p*ssed off he was, no matter how hard he tried to say something nice about it. I found it pretty insulting how they showed on the lowdown for him "Richard Hatch: tried to make his own version" then spent most of the lowdown trying to convince people the show is any good. Sorry but anyone who tries that hard must know its naff.. But as I say, cool FX from the guys at Zoic

clarky, its cylons not sylons.. unless they changed the spelling too (wouldn't put it past them)

Here's hoping sci-fi change their mind about The Thing mini series.. unless their desperate to ruin that too ;(

good point fenric, but thinking away from the origional (trying not too compare too much , I know its hard ) , its a great attempt in its own to make the old series more realistic.

I think they could have done a better job if they hadn't used BG. It was just a ploy to get free publicity, buy the rights to an established series, then make your own version of your own story basically, but under the well known name.

If they'd avoided BG all together, they could have called it what they want, and have written the exact same storyline, only without the limitations of having to keep some of it similar enough to the original. Instead of raping the original show they could have had something original on its own, minus thousands of die hard fans who were seriously unhappy about what was done to the show.. In the long run it would have given them far more scope to come up with something far better. But they didn't, so in the process ruined the only chance of bringing back BG as it should/could have been, and damaged their own show which could have been much better had they taken a chance.

I'm not entirely on Hatch's side neither. His plans for a new version, while more faithful to the original, unfortunately were biased due to him wanting to revive his career and give himself the best part and center the story mostly around him. Which too would have harmed the show.

One side were blinded with money, the other side was blinded by the promise of revived fame. As someone involved on a revival of an old show myself, and having two friends both involved on revivals aswell (Blake's 7, Dr Who, Captain Scarlet) I have to hope we can learn from sci-fi's mistake, and don't screw up in the same way, or we'll be in for so much stick from the fans too haha

Apart from Apollo's pissed off look and the odd good gag from Starbuck the original was pretty poor ( we'll completely ignore the turgid pile of pish that was Battlestar Galactica : 1980 )

The original was itself a star wars rip off , it only had about 4 original sequences of special effects ... the amount of time you see the radar image of the two viper's rushing back to base being followed by the cyclon fleet ......

Baltar was pure cheese , moffet was about as abysmal as the robot dog from doctor who and the storyline was pretty threadbare.

For my money the remake improved on the original ... but apart from anything else it's just different .. sure the femal characters and female cylons grate a little but meh

The action aspects of it are by far improved , you get a better feel for the military structure and the actual ability of a battlestar. As for the fans reaction sure a lot of the older fans are annoyed but it's garnered it's own audience and been commisioned for 13 episodes

Oh wait! On Simpsons, they had this one episode w/ Mark Hamill(Luke Skywalker) and this Sci-Fi convention and this robot wrestling...the robots of Battle Star Gallactica versus the gay robots of Star Wars

One thing i want to know is how the hell they made "Star Buck" the lady killer a woman?? Is she a lemon or something?

A remake of Battlestar Galactica would be great. I loved that series when I was little. That'll probably be the big problem: it was a bit like the A-team in space (not in the least coz Dwight 'Face' Benedict plays one of the main characters).

fenric said rape, ... .. i didnt think it raped the origional of all its content. I thought it was well thought out and had enough origional content, the battle scenes where the prettiest in a pre series movie ever, very nice , maybe its me but it had a homeworld feel to it, and that was cool. Its kool with me if anyone loved the origional , I just think its brought a breath of fresh air to the Space Sci Fi genre. Like Enterprise did when it first started, and if they can keep the quality of the movie in the new series it will be awsome.
