How many of you used youtube to get through a level on portal?

I did but only for 1 part on #19
and for level 14 or 13

Only once, for that second "speedy thing goes in, speedy thing goes out" maneuver in advanced chamber 15.

Noep.

I'll admit to looking at a few videos of the challenges, like least amount of time and such.

Never. I like the satisfying feeling that I figured it out all by myself.

Not for the normal map or the advanced ones but I have looked at a couple videos of the bonus challenges I couldn't figure out.

I never looked for anything; it's way better when you figure out for yourself. When I was younger I used to be a hell of a cheater. Then I realised that I had thrown away a lot of good games (I used a lot of walkthroughs for Monkey Island, for example; I regret that very much)

None. I almost did on the big Sentry Gun room right before GLaDOS. The part when the two guns come down at that hallway.

No. If you did for anything other than the challenge/bonus maps you suck :p

I completed some of the challenges, then looked at what other people did to complete them. Some people have unholy skill and reflexes, but honestly I came up with a lot smarter ideas then those freaks. :p

No youtube for me, I feel that if you think about Portal, you will see the way, only people who look at it and go 'OMG NOES!!' will fail at a game like this.

I played through protal with one of my friends. (He's a sophomore and he's in advanced trig... Also honors advanced geometry... Smart ****...) and we both got through the advanced levels with ease. We traded. I did the odd chambers, he did the even ones, and he got screwed a couple of times on 18 (Cause theres a few ways to beat it, but he wanted to do it the right way, instead of the way I showed him, where you can make a portal and fall onto a tiny ledge and jump onto the next platform from there. he didn't want to do it, so he died and i got to beat it.) :D

2 heads are better than one. ^^

I asked The Brick once. For that one part where you had to destroy the glass.. He's all 'try stacking' and it worked. roflwofl.

I think I did for one of the challenge (speed) maps, but I didn't specifically go looking for that, there were threads of that kind after release. Of course, I had the game completed before mid-release-day so there were no videos to cheat with!

The original levels were intuitive no doubt. But the Advanced ones? I cheated at all of them 0_o

I beat em' ^^

But some of the things you had to do were rediculously secluded from you. it was almost silly to try to beat, and when you beat it, you feel like there should be a bigger reward, but it's just fade to black again. :(

I only used an faq with TWO chambers. (one advanced, one normal)

Advanced Chamber 18 took me hours to do the first time I played.

Never. Me and Brick completed it pretty quickly as soon as it came out, and went through the advanced chambers, then again trying to set new records.

Never used a guide or anything to make it. I did make 25 walkthrough videos though. For this site even.

No way, takes the fun out of accomplishing Valve puzzles.

I didn't while playing the game, but a lot of the levels were familiar from all of the teaser vids.

I got stuck on the last level and took a peek at a walk through. It turned out to be one of those, "How did I miss that the first time?" moments.

That's the same for me.
Well, after I finished Portal the first time, I looked up one or two of the advanced maps. Just to see, how others did it.

It's way more fun figuring it out for yourself, cheating is teh lamez.

It's really fun with a couple of friends trying to figure it out with you - that's how i got past one spot in the final advanced chamber - and yeah, it was one of those duuhhh moments you can't believe you didn't get!

The challenges are brilliant, especially the 'least portal' ones. You have to really think about which portals are most important and how you can cut some out!

I love doing least portals and least time challenges but not least steps. I think it's boring but I try sometimes.
