Just saw a post some new guy had put up regarding his specs.

Simple question: How will my PC handle half life 2/ wat kind of graphics can I expect. PLEASE.

He was polite, okay there's millions of these threads but that's cuz millions of people want specific info from us guys who know a little about it.

Three replies.
Two basically telling him to bugger off, his presence in the forum with such posts is not welcome, you're wasting space.
Third, a mod closing it.

Now I'm sorry but I felt sorry for this guy. He was polite and asked a simple question. He got a hostile, rude, remark back at him.

And if we think he's wasting "precious post space" check out some of the stuff we have up.
"I dream of half life 2"
"We have to wait cos of daylight saving"
"Gordon is gay."

I don't mind reading these topics, they're light hearted.
But I just think its wrong to shoo a newbie away just because we've heard his plight before.

forgot about the stupid poll threads :)

his post was in the wrong section of the boards (we already have a hardware and software section for those questions)... and the mod that closed the thread (Axyon) politely told him to use the correct thread, and even linked him there.

thats what moderators do... they moderate.

sure czrsink was rather rude.. but you get people like that in a community this large, but the cool thing is they are merely the vocal minority.

btw... THIS SHULD BE IN TEH GENRAL OFF TOPIC NUB!!!!!!?!!?

(Im only kidding around :) )

thanks....and...sorry about my thread..i know it was stupid to post such a question as a first thread.

Yeah people are very rude on here. I'm glad all the mods that I run into are pretty cool. They are just doing what they are asked by closing it, the 2 replies before that one are un-called for though. :(

its because people dont obey even the most simple rules. if they dont bother to read the rules before posting, they wont get insulting replies.

i agree m8, sum ppl just wanna have a go at ppl, if u gonna tell em dat they r doing sumin wrong say it nicely

well what can we do no matter how much you might write something they will pretend like they didnt see it. i.e. no spoliers and the whole thread is full of spoilers

newbie or otherwise, pple need to start looking around before they create a thread.
really, it doesn't cost anything to look around (no i don't mean using the search funtion) and it doesn't take all that much time either.

You're right, It doesn't take to much time to answer his question either.

Saying it nicely. That's the key here.

"Go away, please"

"I have a suggestion for you! Read this and save precious bandwidth on POINTLESS posts!"

"Oh, and welcome to the forums - though I doubt we'll ever see your post count exceed 5."

What a welcome hey? I don't know this guy, but I know what I'm thinking.

Surely in that space of time he could have redirected or even ANSWERED THE QUESTION??
And Audren I'm glad you saw this thread, I just wanted you to see that not all of us are ignorant ppl with no patience for newbies.

Apologies for popping this in the wrong forum; I'll be honest I wasn't sure where to put it - it relates directly to this forum so I figured it'd make sense, and hopefully have a bigger impact, in this one.

And Audren. I wudda thort HL2 wud run ok on ur system. I was actually very interested in finding out the results as I have a similar set up (except an AMD 3000 rather than the pentium ((and 1gb of ram haha)))

Couldn't agree more, mate. There's too many arrogant tossers who've been on this forum too long and think they're the best thing on it.. so any post that's wrong (even if the user is cool and polite) they jump at an attempt to flame. It's pathetic. What's the point in it..? What do people get out of saying crap to someone who was nice..? Probably no ones in real life and gotta vent their anger on an online forum they spend all day on..
