Benchmark?

Does anyone know if the benchmark program will be shipped independent of the game, and if so, when?

The benchmark will be available on the 30th of September, last we heard.

We don't know whether that date has changed or not.

yes, it was stated that it would be released to the press on the 30th, contrary to community belief i don't think valve meant it would be released to the public on the 30th...maybe on a later date now that the game is delayed...

Who said anything about Valve pissing me off?

Just the fact that we probably won't get anything on 30th september ... and that will piss some of us even more off.

I'm not mad at Valve .... but I am pissed of that HL2 gets delayed. But it's probably for the better. Less bugs and such.

Uhm, the benchmark isn't a "test" to see if your computer will play HL2. That's not what benchmarks are. It's a method of quantifying how good your system is, just like AquaMark 3, or 3DMark. Understand something before you bash it.

I don't believe any release dates from Valve anymore. They didn't learn from the 1997 HL1 release disaster (1 year delay if you remember) and so their dates are worth nothing and should be ignored.

what are the reasons, so far nobody knows - looks like very poor customer relations to me considering how rich these guys get off our hard earned money.

It wouldnt kill them to make a statement a few weeks before saying sorry but we need a bit more time.....

Everybody should boycott it just to send a message to the God like stance gaming companies take these days. Give us your money, eat shit, we will till you what we want when we want.

1) Valve has one of the best customer relations policies of any of the major game development companies. Remember over the summer when Erik and Gabe would actually chat with hardcore CS people about the absolute most pointless little details? "GABE I HAVE 56KAY WILL I B ABLE 2 PLAY HL2????////" Try that with any other company...
2) While I agree that it's stupid they haven't said anything, I'm pretty sure there's a good reason for it, and obviously they can't just come out and say it. We'll know after it's released why they couldn't say more now, whether it be legal issues or they just like being dicks.
