Im sure this has been debated often but everywhere I look I get different answers. I did a search on this forum and it seems that there is not a thread adressing this issue? What is regarded as the best cpu cooler for AMD XP's?

Custom built LN2 heatsink seem to work best, but it isn't really a long term thing, then thers the compressor cooling thingies, forgot their name... they keep your CPU at several degrees below zero all the time.

Just installed this bad boy last week with a 92mm fan and it's doing a great job cooling my AthlonXp 3000+ overclocked to 2.3GHz. While idled, CPU temp is 34c...during load it never goes above 41c and that's while running the Prime95 torture test!!

If you're looking for the best AMD cooling solution that you could actually sleep in the same room with (meaning it doesn't sound like a jet engine like most chip coolers), go for the Zalman CNPS7000.

I was looking into the CNPS7000 for my computer. The nice thing about it is that it goes with AMD and Pent4's. How does it sound compared to the stock cooler that the chip comes with?

At full speed the CNPS7000 is definitely quieter than the AMD stock HSF. But the CNPS7000 also comes with a Zalman Fan Mate, which is a little variable resistor you can attach to the HSF's power supply cord to control the voltage. At around 1800-2000RPMs, which is more than sufficient to cool a mildly overclocked Athlon XP, the CNPS7000 is silient. Make sure you grab some better thermal grease though, like some Artic Silver AS3, Ceramique, or AS5.

Oh, the CNPS7000 comes in two flavors, the -Cu (all copper) and -AlCu (aluminum and copper). The -AlCu is a bit cheaper and considerably lighter, making it better for people who transport their PCs alot (like LAN gamers). The -Cu is heavier, but provides better cooling.
