Im putting together a new computer and I want to know is a good AMD 64 CPU with good overclockability for the dollar.
here is what Im looking at so far.

AMD 64 3500+ 90nm
MSI K8N NEO2 platinum
crosair value select 3200 1gb(512x2)
Thermaltake Venus Fan
Antec case (like old Alienware)
Logitech Lazer MX1000 (because when i made quick movements in HL2 on my mouseman it would go crazy)

I was looking in newegg but then the cpu shot up like a mother*******er and now im looking at this site called
Chiefvalue.com really good site

Thanx

The 90nm A64s are very good overclockers as they run cooler than the old 64s, giving more room to overclock. Put a thermalright xp120 heatsink and a decent 120mm fan and you're laughing.

Hehehe I just bought a 90nm 3200+ A64 + xp-120 heatsink! Just need motherboard, video card, and one of those 120mm fans!

Tis going to own....

Oh and btw, what is the best choice for a 120mm fan? This will probably help syko if he gets that xp-120 ( which i definately recommend also )

I've heard good things about panaflo fans. Only one I'm familiar with ATM.

with the motherboard you plan on getting it might not be possible to put a 120 mm heatsink on it.

The motherboard and heatsink in my sig make a very tight fit. The heatsink is about half a centimeter away from the videocard. So be careful to check the measurments.

You're going to need some better ram than that value pc3200 if you really are serious about overclocking. I doubt you would be able to get past an FSB speed of 215MHz or 220MHz tops! I can run my 130nm newcastle 3500+ at 250FSB*10 without a problem with my Ballistix PC4000. Im pretty sure with some good cooling on that 90nm Winchester 3500+ you could run at 250FSB*11 using PC4000 for a clock speed of 2750MHz!

If you are OCing on the Athlon 64 platform you will want a good set of memory and a board that can get you up there. You can settle for a 3200+ 90nm Athlon 64 though. But don't scrimp on the memory if you plan to really OC.

Memory review on Athlon 64

Wow thanks for all the great replys. this helps alot Ill look into all of you recommendations and treat them all as equal.

thank you all

will I be able to use the 4000 crucial ballistix on my motherboard which says it supports DDR 400/333. i always thought 400 was 3200
