best console game?

Halo needs a big tv, analogue control and rumble. Having trigger buttons to shoot is also far more satisfying than using a mouse button :)

Even on my 21" monitor the game felt tiny in comparison, far less impressive. A high resolution looked nice but felt too clinical, the outside areas didn't feel organic. Basically the big expansive levels and menacing Aliens had been replaced with a tiny, angular models.

Mouse and Keyboard made aiming far too easy and thus borked the balance that makes Halo great. It isn't worse using a joypad in this case ..... just harder and more rewarding.

On the pc Halo felt like just another shooter (very average) - on the XBox it's one of the best games ever made, especially in co-op (another feature that the pc lacks)

(all imo of course :) )

Halo PC doesn't have coop like the xbox does and the coop is A LOT of fun. But that still doesn't make it better then the PC version, unless you don't have a high end PC.

Oops, forgot about Co-op. Ok, there's 1 thing the XBox version has over the PC. Relating to what foxtrot mentioned, alot of people try to use the argument that Halo is only that good on high-end PCs. Well, duh. Going by that logic, Half-Life 2 sucks because it's only going to be as good as the pics and vids on high-end PCs. That's the whole point :)

Actually Half-Life 2 will atleast run decently on lower end computer.

SNES - E.V.O.

Not only my favorite console game, but my favorite game of all time :)

Link to the Past, Super Mario World, and Secret of Mana are my favorites.

okay first computer game i ever p--- wait ... okay first computer game that got me addicted to pc gaming was wolfenstein 3d. then came Rise of the Triad... WOOOO one of my ALL TIME favs. but before those i used to play commodore 64... in fact i still have that old thing in my room here hahah...

anywho, consoles... my fav games were

abodox
castlevania(1 and 4)

Ever?

1st generation: Super Mario Bros.
2nd generation: Super Mario World
3rd generation: Tie: Goldeneye and Zelda: OoT
4th generation: Halo

I'm always happy with MGS2, SSBM, Perfect Dark, Ocarina of Time and Decay (from the PS2 Half-life. I recently bought The Thing for cheap and, despite poor reviews, it's quite fun.

It is good isn't it? They fluffed up the squad-based dynamic and all the mutations are scripted but it's a fun game.

Sorry, but...the graphics in Halo PC are worse than the Xbox version...what? On a reasonable modern PC the graphics are better. All your critisisms seem to be of your PC not the actual game...correct me if I'm wrong.

Pretty much. The gfx may be more detailed (only very slightly btw) but the overal effect isn't as satisfying (for me anyway). Everything seems less solid, the locations far less grandiose (Prince of Persia and GTA being other good examples of this when played on the pc) It's easier to forget you're playing a video game and become Master Chief on the Xbox.

For me single player games are all about immersion - and analogue movement, rumble, triggers etc etc achieve this far better than a mouse and keyboard (imo) Halo really benefits from these features.

While M&K are essential for online/clan games I think it's actually worse for most single player games, where it isn't about lightning reactions and skill level - just about having fun (imo the best single player FPS ever made are Golden Eye, Perfect Dark, Halo and Metroid Prime - all on consoles. Other than Half Life the pc really has nothing that comes close)

Don't get me wrong - I love pc gaming, and have been playing in clans for years now (multiplayer is where pc gaming really kicks ass :) ) Current consoles are starting to show their age (nearing the end of this generation) and for the first time in years pc games are starting to come out that consoles just couldn't handle, HL2 being a great example. Not to mention the mods that are coming out :)

But if you just take the single player game alone, I honestly believe HL2 would be more enjoyable and immersive if played with a joyapd on a massive TV - assuming it was designed and implemented correctly of course. (/o\ just imo)

DC-Jet Grind Radio of course. I was so damn addicted to that game when I got it, cant believe you people didnt even mention it tisk tisk...

I prefered Jet Set Radio Future :) - both are sweet games tho.

Well I kinda have a list here...

N64 - Hybrid Heaven (One of the best RPG's ever created)
N64 - Body Harvest (Graphics may have looked bad but this game was so cool)
GC - Burnout 2 (So cool is addictive, oh and the crashes are cool)
X-Box - The Thing (Damn the atmosphere is amazing)
X-Box - Everything Or Nothing (Its Bond, it has amazing firefights, It has fast cars, it just rules)
