I applied for a whole bunch of summer jobs, and me being 15 I can now LEGALLY work, and get a paycheck and all that. I have had jobs before, but this is a first "Real" job that I'm talking about, so what is the best one? (Not money-wise, but convenience-wise, fun-wise, ect..)..

Examples of "First Jobs":

Janitor/burger flipper at McDonalds/Wendys/and other fastfood place
Dishwasher at a resaurant
Bus person at a restaurant
(There are more but I can't remember them...)

They all pay pretty much the same so count out money, I just want to know which type of job I should try harder to get...

For example, being a dishwasher you don't have to be out in the resaurant and deal with stupid tourists (The area where I'm applying for work is "Clifton Hill" in Niagara Falls, Ontario, REALLY busy in summer..), but you don't get tips or any extra money, but being a bus person you do get tips, but you have to deal with stupid people.. I'm not going to talk about working at a fast food place, because I would NEVER work at one of those, my mom said I should hand in a resume to a fastfood place, and I said no, because it's the worst of the worst..

The place I applied to today is a Sicilian (sp?) restaurant, and it was kind of small, high class - but only about 20 or so tables, I applied to be a bus-boy (Cleaning off tables, and setting them again)..

I would much rather work outside, I live in a farm area, tons of farms but no-one needs help..

So, what is the best "First Job"?

You never get tips while being a busser. Well, depends on where you work, but in most places, you don't.

oh man, I am SO done with food service. you have fun though. ;)

Well, my brother has worked in different restaurants for the last 4 years, 2 of them being a busser, and he got tips....

Best first job is food.

Theres too many pricks out there that have never worked at a resturant, so when they walk into one and have to wait a little longer than usual and they get all pissy. Everyone should work in food at least once to know how it goes.

Yeah, busser sounds like the best (if you're at a high class restaurant hopefully you wouldn't have too much food to clean off the tables, although if it's really high class people might get snobby and that would suck)... then dishwasher.

My biology teacher once told my class that we should flip burgers at a fast food restaurant... because once we saw how they make it, we'd never want to eat that crap again.

Once you see "Super-size Me" you'd never want to eat fast food again.. I'm serious.. I used to love McDonalds, watched that a month ago, and I'm never eating any fast food ever again.

BTW, it doesn't looks "High class" from outside, but inside it looks really high class.. like, if you were to drive by the place, you'd think "What a shitty place", but if you go inside, it looks really really nice, like one of those ski resort restaurants, the high class ones..

My first job was working at a pizza place (Domino's). Answering phones sucked until I was quasi-promoted and allowed to make pizza's. Making pizza is fun :D

A second option would be to take the utmost crappiest job possible. A little incentive to make you progress in life. I might suggest working in a butcher block. That was no fun cleaning out the meat case. :x But I had a chance to eat some of the best steaks one could possibly eat.

The whole point of this thread is to pick the least crappiest job...

Morning paper is how I found all the jobs I'm applying for.. :)

Ennui's job is pretty cool.

I think you should go for busser, and if you can't be one then be a dishwasher :)

My first and current job is being a cashier at a grocery store. I got a raise after about 2 months and was trained to work customer service and in the office (reconciling and counting down tills, performing audit on all the cash in the office, etc). The managers are all awesome, most of the other workers are cool (even the old ladies who check in the morning).

When I first went job hunting, among places like EB Games, I really wanted to work in a grocery store. I was lucky I scored that job, because after I was hired, my manager told me that there were tons of people who turned in applications. She said that a huge majority of them were just thrown away because they were either incomplete or had information in the wrong area.

Edit: why the hell does the forum mess with my font sizes in my posts?

Edit2: christ, that boggles my mind..

I think they might hire me for a job at the Sicilian place, because I went in at 4:00pm (The time in which their ad stated to come) their was only about 4 people there, 2 cooks, and 2 waiters/door people, I think they just opened at 4:00, because it was empty except for those people.

Best of luck to you. I felt so good after I got a call for a second interview, which was actually my first day just to show me around and what goes on. It's going to feel even better once the paychecks start to come in weekly/bi-weekly.

You can't get a job here until you're 18, unless it's something like distributing flyers or working at McDonalds. Jobs like waiters/cashiers/blabla they seldom take anyone under 18.

I got a job at a grocery store first. Any job like that will help you learn better people skills. I stayed there for a long time and when I came back to work for the summer inbetween classes I'd get a pay raise. Raise year after year for just working summers. Good stuff. ;)

I'm self-employed. Pay's shit, but the hours are great. ;)

Ok seriously, the point of a job is to make money, therefore, the best job is the one that pays the most. Go with the one pays a lot.

That's the smartest idea I've ever heard! Why havn't you told me this sooner you genious! Being a gay pedophilic victim of an old man, and getting paid for it is a great idea!

Product tester for Trojan Condoms.... that would be a fun job...

Get a job at a garden centre. Little work, outside work when sunny, easy customers, horticultural wage, learn something about plants. Great fun.

I used to volunteer at an arboretum, 4 hours a day (but only twice a week). Lots of work, outside work when sunny and humid and 90-100 degrees (yay Texas)... no customers :p, no wages, learned something about plants. It was fun though, apart from the heat exhaustion and smelling bad after working out there. One time they made us use fish emulsion. It smells worse than it sounds. Like... really old urine. It looks like that too, except slightly worse because it's kinda cloudy emulsion-ish....

Anyways... the guy I worked with used to have a job at the garden center, and apparently he had to water plants all the time. So he would always make me water the plants because he got sick of it (it was a huge garden and took 4 hours to water, and all you do is stand there for 10 seconds and move to the next plant. I couldn't even spray it around or anything because if the leaves get too wet they rot.... :|).

My first job was on a farm. It rocked. My second job looks like it's gonna be at staples. I hope it rocks

My mom works at a greenhouse place, she could have gotten me a job there, but it was all filled..

For some reason I saw the word "hand" in the title and was expecting something else entirely

woot first paycheck today... 22 hours, $125.65 after taxes

My first job: meatcutter at a grocery store. Worked there for 12 years, bought a truck, put myself through college, and purchased a house on $10 an hour. That's the only other job I've ever had besides my current one (not including part-time at the ski resort for free lift tickets).

NEVER work Fast Food inless you really want to.

I'm currently at A&W and hate it.
Lots of older people, they can get fussy, and it is very fast in there.
You also become very greasy, and stand nearly the whole time you work.

I a just about 15 (Aug. 30th) and I work at a Hardware store called Ace Hardware. I like it because there is really no manual labor involved. I work there as a cashier on the weekends and 1 or 2 days during the week. Just thought I would come in and share.

I worked at a grocery store, Pick n Save.
Lets put it this way
