I'm inclined to agree with you, although I would include the 1st mission were you encounter the turanic(?) raiders. I've still haven't completed the game, so I took out the two things that you included before. Homeworld had an impressive backstory, with some nice plot twists.

I'm hoping the later seasons of Battlestar Galactica will be the same, afterall I cannot believe that Kobol was the homeworld.

To sum it up, I've probably had the most fun playing the original Half-Life and the mmo Dark Age of Camelot. Along with Half-Life, I've overplayed Team Fortress. It was almost an every day thing. Logging on with my 56k and playing some TFC.

PlanetSide - Hot dropping from a Galaxy as Reavers fly by you, bullets and lasers barely miss you, and then hitting the ground, surrounded by enemy forces.

Planescape:Torment - Visiting the Brothel of Slating Intellectual Lusts and having the matron of the house explain to me specifically what it was.

Half-Life 2: - Taking down two gunships in Nova Prospekt. Frantically shotgunning a Myrmidon in the side whilst jumping and running around in circles

Half-Life 1: - Resonance Cascade and its immediant aftereffects.

Dark Forces 2:Jedi Knight 2:Jedi Outcast - Destroying hapless Stormtroopers any way possible. Spawning as many Jedi and Sith as possible and having massive battles.

Psychonauts - THE WHOLE FREAKING GAME.

Deus Ex - Knocking everyone on Liberty Island unconscious. I mean *everyone*.

Counter-strike source: 5 headies in 3 awp shots. Also a, twitched, double headshot with deagle. Also 3 clans asking me to join on the same moment :p

Darwinia: Seeing 200 souls fly up to the sky for the first time, after a long greenguy vs redguy battle.

Halo: Having the flood released. Damn that was scary.

Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast: FINALLY grabbing the lightsaber.

Knights of the Old Republic 1: [SPOILERSPOILER!!] Figuring out that I was in fact, Revan. [/SPOILERSPOILER!!]

Quake 3 Arena: Beating Xaero on nightmare in a fair fight.

Quake 3 Arena: Defrag: Breaking a world record :D

Trackmania Nations: Being ranked 5th of Holland/14th of the world :D

Enter the Matrix: Going back to the store to switch it for C&C Generals.

EDIT: Shall I do a bvasgm? :D

Deus Ex: Playing the game a second time and having my brother not die this time/ and well everything really :p

Planetside: Joining a squad of random people, and discussing how we're going to sneak into enemy terrortory and we flew right over a huge battle in a drop ship and paradropped into the enemy base. Then snuck in and took it over, but when we came back up to the surface shitloads of enemy tanks and reavers were all over the place and we held up inside until a load of bombers flew over and saved us. Excellent :D The rest of the game was quite pants unfortunately though :(

Natural Selection: Playing a game were either side could easily win right up to the last couple of minutes/ or being on the team that looks like it's the worst but eventually pulls through.

Operation Flashpoint: The level were your stranded in the forest and I crawled what felt like the entire length of the island over the course of an hour to reach the evacuation point/ That mod which had the psychic russian troops that were hunting you down over entire the island, woah that was so insanely awesome.

Beyond Good and Evil: I loved the feel of the entire game.

Oni: The combat system, best 3rd person fighting game on the PC easily.

Thats all I can think of right now :p

OK I'll take a trip down memory lane. If I don't say why it was a great gaming moment, it's because the entire game was a great gaming moment

- Mostly in order of the time that I experienced them-

Atari 800XL:
Archon - Defeating the un-fun punishingly difficult AI for the first time.
Dungeon Master

DOS PC:
Wolfenstein - Playing my first FPS
Doom
Doom 2 - more of the best game evar!!111

TurboGrafix16:
The Legendary Axe - using the fully upgraded axe on the final boss

Sega Genesis:
Road Rash
Greatest Heavyweights Boxing

Nintendo Entertainment System:
Metroid - figuring out the puzzles
Zelda
Mike Tyson's Punchout

GameBoy:
Super Mario World

Super NES:
Super Mario World
FFIII
F-Zero
Mortal Kombat II - playing with friends

Playstation:
Resident Evil
Gran Tourismo

Any:
Street Fighter II and higher
Max Payne
Grand Theft Auto III
Vice City - The street bikes and race cars

SEGA Dreamcast:
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 - Nothing can describe how tight this game was, but I'll just say "kicks ass"
NBA 2k
Shenmue
Tokyo Extreme Racer
Pole Position (namco museum)- Finishing the race for the first time (after playing this game since the 1980's)
Phantasy Star Online

Playstation2:
FFX - deciding which path to take on the magic menu
One that I forget the name of but you have to hold hands with this girl and keep shadows from stealing her

Xbox:
Halo - Listening to the sometimes humours things NPC teamates say / driving the surface rover for the first time
Collin McRae Rally 2005
Need for Speed Underground - Driving and upgrading the Eclipse

Modern PC:
Everquest
Morrowind: particularly the 'Dwemer Puzzle box quest' cavern
Doom 3 - Particularly hitting the airlock and going out onto the Mars surface, but everything else was cool, especially since this was the first game I created mods for.
HalfLife2 - The first couple of levels were the most incredible game experience
World of Warcraft

GameCube:
Resident Evil 4

Well, thats all I'll include, my memory is blank now.

Warcraft: When you're on the Orc campaign, and you start with some Wolf Riders and Grunts, you walk to your town, which is being raped by the Humans. You needed to slow down the game time, so you can select the units, and have them start moving, in an attempt to save as much time as possible before the blacksmith was destroyed...

Starcraft: Tassadar talking to Kerrigan likehe knows her better than she does. "You are your own worst enemy." Classic line.

Duke Nukem 3D: Getting the RPG for the first time, and shooting the window out in the movie theater....

Police Quest: Pulling the bad guy over, and having to type out every little command, otherwise he'll blow your brains out, and you lose, or you blow his brains out, and lose.

Oh, on a side note: A Bad game experience: Getting halfway through the conversation with Reval in Planescape:Torment, initiating a movie sequence, and the game CRASHING. CRRRASSSHING.

Starcraft: Battle.net 1vs1vs1 HUGE siege tank battle. I won by hiding my tanks under my engineering bays and also using dropships to drop SCVs for suicide attacks.

HL2: Listening to Breencast

Half-life: Aftermath of the resonance cascade and Surface Tension.

Half-life 2: Emerging from the trainstation and into the plaza, the infiltration of Nova prospekt - from the turret riddled beach to pushing into the courtyard and swarming it with antlions. Entering the Citadel and reaching the tip. Nothing compares to the superbly animated and excellently written sequence in Breens office. "If thats the worst you can do Breen send us both through your damned portal!" "Oh its hardly the worst. But you might find that hard to believe once you get there..."
Then to the reactor. Whilst easy it was truly awesome climbing the spire, whilst Breen spewed some of gamings greatest lines at you - until you reach the very tip with the magnificent view of City 17.

Deus ex: Waking up in a dingy cell, only to find your in UNATCO. Shooting Manderely. Anything with Walton Simons in. Bob Pages line, "Soon death will have no meaning."

Vice City: Jumping onto a motorbike to the strains of Billy Jean, the sun setting over the Miami influenced landscape.

San Andreas: Taking down Frank Tenpenny. Nothing has felt so satisfying.

OBLIVION: Emerging from the sewers. Wow.

Metal Gear solid: Psycho Mantis boss battle, Liquid refusing to die..."SNAAAKKEEE!!"

MGS2: Snake wading through the flooded hanger screaming "Ocelot!". The battle with Solidus.

MGS3: The entire final few levels, from the Grozny Grad to the showdown with The Boss.

Starcraft: Arcturas Mengsk betraying Kerrigan. "Pull out."

As you can see, I could go on :p

Some of the greatest gaming moments I've experienced have come from playing C&C: Renegade multiplayer:

Taking advantage of a large battle to sneak to the enemy base and plant a nuke in one of the enemy's buildings.

Being almost totally annihilated on one map, losing all but one of the buildings, but defending against continued enemy attacks for over 20 minutes by employing superior teamwork and then winning the game.

There's hundreds more :)

Why the hell would you lose if you blow the bad guy's brains out?

Because the game apes real Police procedure, and in the real world, the use of lethal force without justification will lose you your job.

Oh fudge, there are so many I don't know where to start.

MGS2 - The tanker episode
MGS3 - Ending
StarCraft - Just about everything.
Doom 3 - Hell
Sonic 3 + Sonik & knuckles - Hidden Palace Zone (edited)
Half-Life 2 - Just about everything, but mostly, the beginning, being under the bridge and being just outside the citadel.
Super Mario 64 - The first time I played it, I knew nothing about what my goals were, but it looked so inviting and marvelous back then and just running around, killing enemies, trying different moves was satisfying enough. It was probably the best feeling I've had in my life.

Edit: There are surely more that simply didn't come to mind but I probably would have mentioned if it did.

otherwise he'll blow your brains out,

That seems justified enough for me. :p

HL1:
Gargs, opening, gargs, aftermath of resonance cascade, Surface Tension, gargs, Xen and gargs and the tentacle, and 1 particular fight with the HECU that sticks out for no apparent reason...and gargs

HL2:
Being chased in the airboat, opening, ending, assault on Nova Prospekt, Nova Prospekt final teleport (elites rush in and tear the place apart)

Sonic 3 & Knuckles:

Doomsday Zone, Death Egg Zone, Lava Reef Zone boss, Hidden Palace Zone

Golden Axe:
MAGIC MAGIC F*CKING MAGIC!

GTA San Andreas:
This one unreal chase I had in San Fierro

Unreal Tournament 2004:
Getting a 'Wicked Sick' Kill in my Golioth, playing online and being a gunner on the Leviathon that anhilated the enemy base

Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine:
Accedentaly setting up a chain reaction that saved my and defeated my sister

Deus Ex:
Knocking down doors with my sword, saving Paul, "You killed alot of people tonight" after I killed absolutly NO ONE, enemies blowing up as their rockets exploded inside their guns, THOSE DAMN SPIDER-BOTS!

HL1 - watching the tentacle fry

Nothing sticks with me from that game as much as that moment.

HL1 - Battle with marines when "We've Got Hostiles" starts (you go up that elevator and there's artillery coming down on you while an Osprey drops in marine after marine.

Mario 64 - Playing with all the acrobatic moves you could do for ages at target, only to watch a kid do a backflip, then discover the "Z" button on the controller.

MGS1 - Pretty much everything. All the little funny MGS moments that happen (Meryl's codec frequency, Psycho Mantis boss fight, etc). The entire plot.

MGS2 - Loved the plot and using the sword.

MGS3 - Boss fights still kick ass in this game. The End was a great fight. I was always scared that he was behind me when I was hunting him down. Finally catching him when I was trying to hold him up was an awesome feeling.

Ratchet & Clank 2 & 3 - Learning that after I beat the game there's plenty of new weapons and upgrades and reason to go through the game again with difficulty ramped up nicely.

FF7 - Finding out that Cloud originally killed Sephiroth - Doing Omnislash for the first time - Summoning Knights of the Round for the first time.

Super Mario Brothers - I remember this just because it was amazing. There was an annoying jumping part on one of the levels with jumps in quick succession with flying fish popping up to get you. Well, I was at a friend's house playing this part when his sister came in and hit the light switch. The TV was hooked up to a socket that was controlled by the light switch so the tv shut off and we immediately started yelling at her. I was still attempting to play because this was one of our last lives. His sister runs from the room, my friend jumps up and turns the lights on and I find myself on the far end of the area. I did the jumping section without getting hit without the TV on :p Why didn't I pause? I don't know.

Halo - Leaving the Pillar of Autumn in the lifeboat. The Dropship inseration onto the beach during The Silent Cartographer. Stepping out into the snowy canyon in Assault on the Control Room (this was the first level I played of Halo at my mates and I loved it. Interacting with the marines and driving the vehicles, meeting up with other bands of marines, I was hooked.) Being dropped off in the murky swamps in 343 Guilty Spark and slowly advancing through the fog towards the facility as several blips of contact fade in and out of your motion sensor, dark shadows of deformed things sidestep from cover behind trees and bodies tumble down the hill side from some unknown force. And finally, the Warthog escape on the underside of Halo during The Maw. I always liked to sit around for a while on that so I could land in the last area with about 15 seconds, just to make the ending more dramatic.

Half-Life 2 - Imerging from the train tunnel during Route Kanal and descending into the dirty waters of the canel, I just love that area so much. The barbed wire fencing, the rusty and bent railings, the train line, the muddy walls, the debris floating in the water, the train cars off the track, the collapsed bridge, etc. Loved it. Dodging the Hunter Chopper in the canal, and I mean actually dodging it, not just running away boringly. Ducking behind barrels and bits of debris, running out from cover as bullets kick up the water and mud behind you, ducking back behind a stack of boxes only for them to be knocked aside and smashed into peices by the Choppers machine gun, and the noise the gun made before it fired; the charging up that would inevitibly end up with it firing and you getting hurt. I was on the edge of my seat running from that charging up noise just to dodge behind a doorway leading to the next part of the level as the wall to my side was pelted with bullets, dust billowing in the small corridor of the high powered weapon. I could go on with HL2 scenes, but alot of them have already been said anyway.

Battlefield 2: Modern Combat - On X-Box Live, just stuff that makes you grin and think 'Ohhh yeaaaah' like following a helicopter with your sniper, slowly aligning the crosshairs with where the pilot is sitting, firing, and watching the full helicopter spiral to the ground as the words ''THRASHTASTIC [SNIPER RIFLE] NOOBHUNTER2K4'' appear at the bottom of the screen.

I'll think of some more later.

Damn it, how could I have forgoten Halo?
Driving out of the Pillar of Autum, fighting my way down the control room pyramid in Two Betrails and then sniping the battles between Flood and Covanant, driving the tank in Assault the Control room, flying the banshees.

Halo - me and my friend were playing coop on the xbox. We were at the spot were you have to fly the ghost up to the one door. So my friend flew up there first but didn't land far enough in so he flew. It was my turn to fly up there and then I had to push mine over the edge. Theres nothing my amazing and funny than watching a ghost fall out of your view, then 30 seconds later entering the view of my friends screen and proceeding hit the ground (I'm glad vehicles didn't blow up in the first halo).

Hl2 - all of it.

Far Cry: When a merc ran out from behind a rock yelling "I'm gonna shoot you in the face!" It made it even funnier when I shot him right in the teeth with my pistol, making do half a backflip and landing right on his face.

HL2: When I first started it up. I'd been waiting for a sequel since I beat Half Life back in 1999. I was six years old :D also when I first got my crowbar, and smiling when I wacked my first combine with it. And everything else was just as good.

Oblivion: Looking at the first sreenshots, and also when it went gold. I don't have it yet though :(

Counter Strike: I was the last CT, and I was camping out in the spawn behind the truck, in assault. There was a Tby the bridge, and he hadn't even seen me yet. I shot him right in the head, killing him with one shot. But the others came and owned me. Also when I droppesd down from the vent into the room outside the hostage room, with a P90. There were three T's standing right there. I guess they were shocked cause I spun around and killed all three of them.

CS:S: Office. The T's were in their spawn mass buying pistols and lagging the shit out of the server. I ran in there (laggingly) with my m4 and managed to kill all of them. Right afterwards the game crashed because I was pretty much ankle deep in glocks.
