Haha, I'm going to go see them on October 29th in San Francisco. I'll send you a PM on my *review*. =) Catch 33 is godlike in my opinion, especially "Shed" and "In Life - Is Death"

See the video for Shed here -> http://www.mtv.com/bands/az/meshuggah/artist.jhtml

Sweet, I'll probably reply back with a breif reveiw on what the gig here was like. I have high expectations that is will be kickass. I was going to see them at the Download festival earlier this year, but Anthrax clashed and... y'know. :(

When I have the money I'll go and buy it. I have been told its pretty good.

Video isn't working, blasted site. I'll try again later.

I was waiting for your obligatory Bon Jovi reference in this thread.
I was sure that if an ID/evolution discussion could spawn a Bon Jovi appreciation post, this thread definately had one coming.

I'm just glad someone knows who Sambora is.

I know who he is but I just pretend that I dont ;)

...I even know who tico is

I was always under the impression dream theater did liquid tension as something to do, not side project, good to knwo what it really was though.

Glad the old keyboardist was replced by rudess...phew

As for octavarium, i gotten really into it, took me a while though i do admit. Was baffled at first now i love it. Just one of those albums

LTE was a task to make one of several 'super-groups', so I guess it is more than a side project. I suppose you could call them 'Dream Theater Mk II' really, as the only other member of the band is Tony Levin.

EDIT: I've only just realised there was already a conversation on LTE a couple pages back. I was wondering why Gui started talking about them, too. My bad.

I have many votes for different musical catagories for new rock i vote Tom Morrello for clasical rock i vote clapton for blues i still vote clapton for metal i vote metallicas/slayer guitarist i feel bad i cant remember their names for punk i vote punk sucks for technicial ability i vote jimi hendrix for shear speed and innovation i vote eddie van halen for the fact he made tapping. thats that

well to say i have one favourite is a lie. i have many favourite great guitarists that have influenced me over time. here is my list:

1. Jimmy Page
2. Eddie Van Halen
3. Steve Vai
4. Joe Satriani
5. Jimi Hendrix

(these are not in any particular order btw)

My top two are probably Jonny Greenwood and John Squire.

My favourites are: satriani, vai, nuno bettencourt, eric thompson, santana, clapton, and the one who still blows me away more than any other... mr yngwie malmsteen, the guy is incredible, and his classical pieces come screaming guitar solos are just awesome. Plus he's a nuttah !!!!

god I absolutely hate yngwie malmsteen ...you have to understand that I was around when yngwie was considered the guitar god and seeing as how most of my friends were musicians we debated who was the better guitarist ad nauseum ...it didnt help that Yngwie was a self-annointed guitar god but did he ever have a chip on his shoulder. He was all flash/technique very little soul

talented but ultimiately gimmicky ...but I agree with the rest of your choices

True, he does love himself, but i think he is extremely talented, but i can see where you're coming from. Glad you agree with the others though.

:E

The only way this can ever be decided with any sort of certainty is if all of the aforementioned guitarists(and John McLaughlin--how do you have a 4 page thread about the 'best guitarist' and have no mention of him??? Have you all not heard the Mahavishnu Orchestra???) get together and 'cut heads' like Ralph Macchio and Steve Vai did at the end of Crossroads(LOL even though Vai played both parts of course :))--that'll decide it once and for all(or at least until the next scheduled session--I say one a decade--any thoughts?).
