Whats the best HSF for Athlon 64's, Socket 754? I am looking to buy one and I want the best for my baby. And if there a coice of LEDs, go with blue. ;)

Stock fan? No really, right here I've got my A64 3000+ (2GHz) OCed to 2.3Ghz. Stock cooling, stock voltage and holding in the 40C on load and in the 30's at idle.

But if you want an awesome Aftermarket CPU cooler then check out the Thermalright SLK-948U.
Then pick your own 80mm or 92mm blue LED fan. ;)

My MSI board had an issue with the temp. readings being high.
Originally they were 50's but I updated the bios and they fixed the issue.
In the 30's for Idle with Cool & Quiet.

Bitch.

Hahaha, well, I'm getting, once I have the money, a Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu. It's supposed to be really good (most reviewers said it dropped case temps. about 5+ degrees C, sometimes 8. The only drawback I've heard of is its kind of large size, so before you buy it, you might want to do some measurements.

Oh, and just in case you don't see this yourself, this heatsink is only compatible up to socket 754 for on the AMD CPUs, so if you're planning on upgrading your processor anytime soon, you might want to get a heatsink compatible with both 754 and 939 sockets for future use.

Oh, and two more tips, use Arctic Silver 5 for thermal paste, and if you don't buy that Zalman, get a good heatsink that's copper. Copper dissipates heat faster than other metals.

i have an msi k8t neo-fsr. i flashed my bios i think it's still the same temp readings. i'm at work at the moment. i'll check later.

btw how did you oc the cpu? fsb increase?

I though all socket 754 heatsinks worked with 939. I guess I could be wrong.

Anyway two very good heatsinks are the thermaltake venus 12 and the silent boost. The silent boost is very silent as the name implies and it is slightly better performing then the stock cooler.
The venus 12 is the performace option and it has 3 different setting (or the motherboard can do it for you if you dont like fiddling with knobs) The venus 12 is probably the best performing heatsink for A64 tied with the the SLK-948U. Howevor if you are running this thing at full RPM some people say it can get very noisy.
I kinds like the fact though that you can adjust the venus 12 depending on what the current task you are doing. If you are gaming you can adjust it to a higher RPM or if you are just browsing the web you can adjust it to a lower RPM.
