Best Pre-Order places for HL2

I just thought I'd start this thread to see where people are pre-ordering their copies of HL2. I personally have it reserved with amazon at the moment, but my thinking of late is that they arn't gonna send it to me for about a week after the release.

Can anyone recommend me (and the other people I've chatted to about this) any sites that can promise me a copy of HL2 on my doorstep on the day of release? By the way I'm in the UK, but feel free to mention the rest of the world for other peoples benefit!

Any help would be much appriciated.
 
I find preordering pointless

I'll be buying it the day it's released.
 
i always find that if you know your going to get a game, why not preorder it? or just reserve a copy. i like preordering at EB, the one near me is great. :cool:
 
why preorder it at all?

the game will be there, they'll over stock, you still have to go and pick it up
 
near me i usually never have a problem finding a game however you never know; so i usualy always will preorder a game that i know im going to get. i almost never preorder over the internet, always at a store.
 
Well y'know you can save £10 pre-ordering it online and not have to go to the shops. Just wondering if the curse of paying £10 less is that you have to wait bitting your nails waiting for a knock at the door for a week?
 
i like shopping on the internet for things i dont necessarily need right away however in the case of hl2 the store wins :cheese:
 
Chris_D, it seems that lately, major retailers have implemented a "screw you over without lubricant if you didn't pre-order" policy. They are trying to motivate people to preorder because all their bonuses are based on how many people pre-order. So with some games, they WILL NOT SELL TO PEOPLE WITHOUT PREORDERS on the release date, even if they have 50 units in stock. I know, pretty sick, but it's true. I would not rely on retailers selling HL2 on the release date unless you call them up first or reserve a copy.
 
I'll most likely pre-order...but not until retailers actually know about the different SKUs and can give price-points for each!

Oh yeah...I just found out that I'm gonna be in Washington, DC on business over the 30th...so I guess I can't play it until that weekend anyways...dammit!
 
dudes, anyone know any sites or stores that has the release date on 9/30 ? My eb store says novmeber, but thats BS. If they dont get the game when its released im goign to be ****in pissed.
 
I think Amazon UK does...and a lot of places have the HL2 guidebook coming out 9/23 and most guidebooks are released a week before the game...

Also think it makes perfect sense to pre-order game..Half-Life 2 has reached a level of popularity which says that it will be sold out on its release date (9/30?)

Fiber what dose your store have the release date as? Mine is november but im gonna call them in a few days. Ill curse at them if it comes out and they didnt get any.
 
When i reserved they said they haven't the slightest idea but they said mid-November. Let's change that. And by paying the $50 I hope that I do get the normal SP+MP one..
 
Does anyone know of any locations that have the three independent skus available for preorder?

I wanted to get a Collector's Edition. Maybe it'll have a mini-Crowbar keychain thingy...

I don't believe any retailer has info on the different versions...some are taking pre-orders for different ones, but they really don't know specifics.
 
i honestly have no idea where to pre-order it, and wont be. id rather go to the store and make sure i get the right version (single with multi or collectors, if its out onlaunch) then waiting a few extra days for the wrong version toc ome in the mail, seeing as how so many stores seem to not know much about A) the release date and 2) that there are multiple versions
 
I won't pre-order it, I want to wait and see if the bundled card is worth buying it with. Because I need a new card, and if the 9800XT is better than a 9800 Pro, I will buy it bundled.

Ill download maybee the copy first if I dont get it before Steam. However I will for sure buy it via steam.

They say I'll get it on the day of release
 
Hmm, im not going to preorder it but im going to right on the release date go to store near me first thing when it opens, and get me a copy of hl2 (hopefully they have it) and run home and play it.
 
to anyone in the UK, i'm preordering from special reserve. heard of them? they have 7 shops total (yes 7) but a huge website for all kinds of stuff. They have HL2 priced at £26.99 inc vat. The last time I preordered a game from them (elite force 2) I got it the day before the release date, and the game before that (sincity 4) I got it on the date. I would reccomend them to anyone. The downside is you might have to pay for membership. Go to specialreserve.com for them.
 
The problem with gameplay.co.uk is that you have to pay the 99p for first class postage to guarentee that you get it on the day of release.

Either that, or I misread the page.

I like gameplay though, the shop in Leeds is fantastic :)
 
Yeah, but it's 99p... it's £10 cheaper AND you still get it on the day of release. lol.... not too much to complain about methinks!

because I dont have to worry about it and it costs nothing.
 
Anyone know of good US shops that are having it cheaper if you pre order it?
i was hoping gogamer.com would be doing something :(.
 
Ive pre-ordered at my local GAME store, they promise to ring you as soon as they have a copy.. at no charge to reserve.

i agree ill just camp outside my local circuit city (I have a gift card i still need to use so why not use it?) bout 30 mins before it opens or so and just walk in and buy it.
