I love RPG's but there are just so few RPG's that are worth my money right now. Im not talking about MMORPG's im talking about singleplayer ones. Right now IMO the best one out there is Gothic 2, yes I own Morrowind and Neverwinter nights and all there expansions but Gothic 2 and even Gothic 1 are simply better games. Problem is Gothic 2 will only satisfy me for the next month or so. So what do you guys think is the best RPG on the market right now? Is there something i'm missing that I must own?

Morrowind. Never Winters Night. Dungeon Siege. Just a few.
Nice avatar, I have a shirt with that on it. :)

Thing is I own all those games, except for SWG but thats pointless for me to get because of my internet connection.

Daggerfall for an enjoyable romp from yester-year (though having reinstalled if even I'm being forced to admit it isn't aging well now :( )

Baulders Gate II

mine... when its done

morrowind (hey everyone else mentioned it, and I just bought it today so why not mention it too)

Diablo II, I guess?

Everquest (though like SWG you'll need some kind of net connection, though its a little less picky as its older)

Ultima (same as above with not being too picky with modem speed)

Morrowind gave me about 150-200 hours of play. It was a lot of fun, but I probably won't play it again. But that's ok because I already got more out of this one than most games.

Is that KOTOR an RPG?

I agree, Knights of The Old Republic is a fantastic game - and the best use of the star wars license in a video game ever (imo) It's the only RPG that's had me hooked for quite a while now.

For it's time Baldur's Gate 2 and expansions were excellent - only bettered by Planescape Tourment. Final Fantasy, Breath of Fire, Dragons Quest games all rock too :)

Morrowind. Although Knights Of The Old Republic is set to be released Nov. 18.

(surprised no one said this) Golden Sun 1 and 2... haven't finished 2 but 1 was a masterpiece!

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic just went gold yesterday...expect it soon.

i haven't played it but i hear nothing but amazing things about it and nothing bad...must be pretty good :p

imo, star wars galaxies is total crap...i beta tested it and it wasn't fun at all.

Dungeon Siege: designed so that everyone who plays it, finishes it. Shortest game of the three, but most polished, imo. Standalone expansion due out soon, Legends of Aranna.

I was thoroughly disappointed with some aspects of Dungeon Siege. Mainly the fact that ranged levels mean nothing. My friends and I decided who we were gonna be before it came out. I was ranged, and my other two friends were offense magic and melee. Melee turned out to be the best, he just leveled in everything else very quickly when he was pretty high up in melee. Magic was also good. He got both trees of magic and kicked ass. Ranged sucks. Levels mean nothing. The only thing that matters is the weapon you have. This really bugged the sh*t outta me.

Don't even get me started on Diablo II. If you play it for the single player value of it and maybe some co-op multiplayer...it's fine. If you're one of those crazy people online that try to make the best character to kill cows...that's another story.

I haven't been keeping up with the current PC RPG's lately...but if you consider consoles. PS2 or PSX. Go with the older ones and the newer ones. FF3, FF7, FFX (I liked FFVIII and FFIX, but some didn't), and FFX-2 comes out soon, that looks good. I hear Suikoden III is really good too.

I just started Xenosaga. It's a cool game so far and I've only heard great things.

KOTOR was a good game. It took me about 35 hours to beat I think. It was a lot of fun near the end where being evil or good actually affected the plot in a major way. I was pure evil...and I got to do some of the things I wanted to do throughout the whole game. Let's just say some people really annoyed me most of the game.

However, I didn't think it was a good enough game to play through again. Near the end it got pretty repetitive. They just kept throwing hordes of guys at you. It was really annoying.

Icewind Dale I and II
Umm... there was 2 more but can't remember them ATM, sorry.

SWG is in its early days, I remember Ultima getting the same response when that first started. I think the problem is SWG isn't so much leaving beta too early on, but more pilot error. people are thrown into the game only to find there's little in the way of hand holding.. Saying that though it is lacking in a few area's, and some things just don't work properly atall.. But I reckon give it a year or so and it could be really big with lots of extra's to go with it.

I have no tolerance for such major bugs in such an overly hyped game.
Its easy to blame it on the person "sucking" at a game when they say its horrible and you love it. To bad really. EQ2 will be good i hope.

Imagine if they released HL2 in like that. Valve would bury themselves.

I've no loyalty towards SWG, they used an idea I had come up with, but fairs fair to them, many of those who'll play it will complain because of something they did (I'm not saying thats you) But you must have seen countless times how someone will bitch and moan about something not working right or not being good, and it turns out to be a fault on their end

I'm not saying SWG is perfect neither, in my mind it should never have been released so soon until atleast a majority of the bugs were fixed and some extra's thrown in for good measure, and perhaps more work done on various classes as I understand only one makes it playable enough to enjoy.. Though that makes me think maybe its meant to be that way to begin with, would be no fun being an intergalactic b*stard stealing from the rich and killing the poor when everyone else is likely picking the same type, would turn into a Quake MP deathmatch so maybe thats what their attempting to avoid by building up the foundations first and introducing the full range of gameplay. Same goes for many MP games, the one with the most stuff or the best weapons will wipe out any new player each and every time, they don't get a chance and don't enjoy the game.

Just my two cents anyway :)

O yeah The Chinese make decent RPGs and so does Russia. Pakistan RPGs are know to blowup in the launching toob so you better watch it. Sout Aferican RPGs are very good but expensive. The imported American RPGs are so so. German RPGs are ok but not as good as Russia's RPGs.

I dont know if this will help you out but I thought id try. :)

KOTOR was great.

If you can find The Ultima Collection, that is some great gaming. period. (U 1 throgogh U VIII)

Morrowind of course. look around for some mods, there are plenty of good ones. I htink there is already one TC out there, called Sword of Peleria or soemthing.

Also, in a few monthes the demo for Ultima 9: Redemption (MW mod) will be out (shameless plug)

The best RPG ever: Morrowind
You've gotta love this game. It's freakin' marvelous. The gameworld is huge, the constant weather changing is simply beautiful, the graphics are awesome considering the size of the gameworld, the gameplay is great (those who use magic a lot might experience some minor problems) and the story is simply brilliant.

And with these new add-ons the game will be popular for another decade at least.

personally, i belive all pure RPG's suck

I used to think the same thing. Never got into the whole RPG gametype. Until Knights of the Old Republic. That game is seriously amazing. I've played through it two or three times, just to play each scenario a bit different. There's so much to that game, and I loved every second of it. Definitely one to look for on PC if you like RPGs, and even if you don't.
