I got about $200 (give or take) bucks to spend on a video card just for Half-Life 2, I am usign a GeForce 3 3000 right now, what do you guys think? ATI Radoen 9600 pro for $180?

well, if you look hard enough, you can find a Radeon 9800 NON pro, or a Radeon 9700 Pro for around $180 - $200. Or, you could just buy a Radeon 9500 PRO 128MB, and flash it's BIOS to a Radeon 9700 PRO and save yourself the money ;).

9500 or 9500 pro, dont think you will find anything better for the sub 200$ price. Id forget about the FX cards too since their DX9 performence is very low.

Not only is their DX9 performance very low, but their prices are outrageous.

yeah 190-220 u can get a 9700 or a9800se, maybe even a 9800np

The cheapest 9700 non pro I've seen here is the one from Club3D for 199 euro's (220 dollars) but if you look better I think you could find a cheaper one.
But I don't think you can get a 9800np for ~200 dollars.
You could easily get a 9500 pro for that price.

My first advice would be a 9700np from Club3D or from ATI (yes they make cards themselves) or else a 9500 pro.
Whatever you do, buy a DX9 card.

Alright so a 9700 np or 9500 pro, no one thinks I should get the 9600 pro? Well thank you guys very much

Many people have overclocked their 9800np's to pro's by flashing the bios. So there is a possibility for ya :)

does any1 have experience with a club 3d 9600 pro 128 ?
is it as bad as ppl claim it to be?

becouse the shop only has 9200 -9600 - 9800 :/

Now that was a great card.. no AA or AF to fiddle with.. ran 3d games at blistering speeds with awesome detail..

Now it's all about which card can run faster with AA and AF maxed instead of great quality.. Sure games look great now, much better then 5 years ago, but come on, we should be at PIXAR quality by now for crying out loud... We need better quality cards, not which one has the best fps in todays games since anything over 60 fps is just a waste of quality graphics that could have been pumped up to make the game look better.

Well the graphics of HL2 and Doom3 have often been claimed as being the best game graphics ever to be seen, and even rival that of hollywood graphics....so i would say your claim is'nt quite true....

Besides gfx company's have to think about the economy also, there's no point in developing gfx cards with blistering capabillities, such as movie-like real time graphics, if no one can afford them

I'd we are at pixar quality, take a screenshot of Doom 3 or Half-Life 2 and compare it to a shot from Toy Story

i won a radeon 9200 NP vivo recently, think i can flash that bios? or will it not work/ screw up vivo

$285 to much to pay for a 9700 PRO?

Hmm i would say so, I'd try and get a cheap 9800/9800pro if i was you!!

I've got a 9700pro which came with my pc and I wont upgrade until i need to or until a gcard comes out which really overshadows the 9700pro performance wise.... until that day comes I'm keeping my little friend... the 9700 pro ;)
