SODA.

NO ONE SAYS POP.

Some weird people were here from the East coast the other day and said "Pop" and everyone was like "ehh what the hell?"

Also it's not "Coke" it CAN be, but you get COCA COLA if you order that. If you want PEPSI, YOU ORDER PEPSI. Coke does not equal all soda.

my good friend says "soda-pop" ...for some odd reason it grates on my nerves every time ..I always hassle him about it
I agree this is the WORST.

I think it's really interesting what strong feelings people have towards what other people call soft drinks

No, Soda literally sounds gay, it just seems like something a gay guy would go to a store and ask for a soda.

Pop is better.

Pop...

Hmm, thought only people around ohio and new york called it pop and everywhere else called it soda. the map shows a lot of poeple actually call it pop, interesting.

What I find funny, is that Alaska is well divded... especially in areas where barely anybody lives.

pop! only people from the south call it soda

Not according to that map! Apparently they call it Coke... nutjobs.

I call it carbonated drink.... (translated).....

but soda is better.

Do you remember Soda-Soda vending machines from Half-Life? :)
Soda is better, pop sounds like pop music (pop music sucks)...

I'm from California, moved to New York.

I still call it soda

Uh.. no you're wrong. I'm from Mass. and everyone calls it soda.

In China, soft drinks are often called "gas/air water" (汽水) or simply "drinks" (Simp.Chinese:饮料 Trad.Chinese:飲料). The first one refers to carbonated drinks only while the latter refers to any drink (though often it refers to soft drink). It is far more common to say the actual name of the drink (eg. Coke, Bottled Tea etc.) than saying generic terms above.

That makes more sense.

They do use that here too though, but it's the more professional term. It'd be listed on restaurant menus and such.

For instance the section that lists what sodas they have, it's labeled "Soft Drinks" or "Fountain Drinks"

No one says that that often outside of a working environment though.

I'm fairly sure pop sounds far more retarded. "I'd like a pop please"

The vendor should then punch them in the face and say "There you got popped in the nose!"

The word is soda.

It depends, I like to use a compliation of words to describe the stuff:
Pop
Fizzy Drink
Soft Drink
'By its name, i.e. Coca Cola'

But I never call is soda
