Best way to recruit a coder?

Any tips on the best way to hire a coder? Places to look? Questions they might ask or anything of the sort?

you could always ask in the help wanted section, explaining the sort of thing your in need of, without giving too much away in public (if you don't want to have someone take your idea's) but just enough so a coder has some idea what your on about. Give them a way to contact you and ask for examples of their previous work (so you know if someone can handle it or if their just enthusiastic but perhaps unable to carry it out to the end)

Usually best if you also have some of the other work done already, like if you want them to do a new kind of weapon, it'll be easier for them if you can provide the weapon model and sequences, things like that

I'm sure others will be able to give better advice though, but its a start

A good concept, a nice site displaying any work you have done. and like fenric says post in the help wanted here, and maybe in some other hl2 forums

yep good concept/planning and a good site, v. good idea. Impress them and show you mean business and they'll take your mod seriously. If its a really good mod you could end up having them come asking you if they can help

ooh and you could always try get on that half-life radio thing. I know its not brilliant but mod teams who get interviewed on that usually get people asking via IRC if they can help out, coders, artists, modelers and so on

OES was asked to go on HL Radio, unfortunatly due to the fact that I don't actually have the net on the computer with mod stuff on yet, this will have to be delayed ;( But don't worry....

I like how I manage to accidently hijack a thread and turn it into an advert for Operation Everlasting Shadow. I recommend checking the thread and the moddb profile, since the website hasn't got all the content we need since we are saving for www.oes.com with unlimited bandwidth.

I thought no hosting had unlimited bandwidth? I dunno I coulda sworn I heard someone warn against anyone offering unlimited as there's always some nasty catch or something. I can't remember where I heard it now, was on here though I'm pretty sure of that

should try www.123-reg.co.uk I've mentioned it before on here I think, its pretty cheap hosting too and a good reliable service, domain names there are really cheap aswell, I think only about £20ish for two years domain name, te hosting prices depend on which one you go for, but even so its not bad, and the servers are fast.

ok got sigs back on and had a look, they looks pretty cool I like the flash intro checked out some of the images on the other site, some really neat stuff there, I like the weapons some of the concept work was pretty cool too, making me think hey I'd like to draw that now It's looking good

Ah, well, the person offering the unlimited bandwidth is a member of the team, it's £50 for two years, and we get loads of benifits, anyway we got the legal guy on the team on the case, so no worries

£50 for two years.. well if its above board then for sure go with that! 123 is cheap but not that cheap, I think its about £80 a year, so yeah stick with the members way if it works out
