If this has been done somewhere else on this forum already, please forgive me (and show me where it is). Of all the first/third person shooters you've ever played, what was the best weapon? Sniper rifle from AVP2 because it was a recoilless, quick loading, one-shot-kill-no-matter-the-hit-zone? The pistol from Quake II because it wasn't? The Blunderbuss from Alice because it was "pretty tough for a musket"? Snarks from HL1 because that's what fanboys want to hear? Please consider/mention something about the following in your justification: animation, sound, ammunition, effect, fairness, uniqueness, alt-fire, reload features, etc. (didn't know this would be an essay forum did ya? :imu I just played Unreal II (the only one of the series I've played) and I really liked the originality of the weapons, and it got me thinking about all the games I have and haven't played.
For example, one of my favorites from Halo is the needler. I don't use it all the time, but I can't wait for those times when the gameplay slows down enough to safely use it. I like the whooshing sound of the melee attack, and the thought of those crystals hammering something makes it seem that much more damaging. It's somewhat challenging to use because the bullet speed is slow, but they track a little. You can see the individual crystals stuck in the target and even see them moving with the target's flesh until they explode. When you unload all of your clip into a target before the first bullets explode, you can get three grenade-caliber explosions out of your target. I like the clinking sound the shards make and the purple flash of the explosions too.
