FYI - Leaving work last nite I thought the 12th was the release date, (I haven't followed every single bit of new coming out)

Anyway went to Best Buy and saw the Prima then asked the guy where the game was. He checked his PC and said they had 60 in the back and sent another guy to get me a copy. While we were waiting I realized I didn't ask for the CE version. He looked it up and said there were 12 copies in the back so he went to go catch the first guy and get me the CE version.

When they came back they told me they couldn't stock it until the 16th...

Anyway that is one example of what Best Buys initial stock is.

EDIT: I reserved 1 of the CE's so make that 11...

A friend of mine who works at Best Buy called me this morning after going into work and finding their HL2 display up. They're selling it today (Saturday), and they had a notice saying, "The November 16th release date should no longer be considered valid." Any word on how widespread this is and whether this is a more official early release that's going to affect the steam release?

It is valid, and that shop should be named and shamed, so someone can come and burn it down :flame:

EDIT: remove Halflife 2 products first though...

it wont be unlocked on steam anyway will it?

you need to register on steam before you can play it... so if they dont unlock it will it even matter that they can buy it early?

I can't see how they can make internet access a prerequisite for a retail copy of a single player game.

By making you register it with steam first.

Yes but it makes assumptions that you have internet access. Unless you can do it via telephone.

Here in the Netherlands some stores already selling HL2. Because I'd already purchased a Silver package otherwise I would have purchased a retail copy.

'Bart Smit' (alot of their stores located in the Netherlands) selling it. Atleast one of those stores...) :)

They also assume you have at least a 1.2GHz processor...

I don't think it's that much of a bold assumption to make.

The Netherlands do that with lots of games.

I stopped going into toy/computer/record stores etc. for the past few days for fear of encountering HL2 and wanting to buy it (because I've already bought Silver too)

I wish they'd damn well post mine to me as soon as... you lot all walking away with it in your pockets and mines in warehouse somewhere ;(

Everyone that have a copy right now just take pics and post them somewhere to be seen. Maybe we can be playing HL2 tonight!
Pressure over Valve!!

kinda sad I don't have anything more to buy, except the "Raising the Bar" book.. I'll try and find that today, even though they say they don't have it. :hmph:

Isn´t the CE edition coming in december?
It is set to come same date (16 november) how ever some countries are slow and gets it later for some reason/excuse.

I work at best buy in Fort Wayne IN, I havent seen it out yet but im going to go poke around the back today when I go in.

Why are we making a big deal out of this anyway? The game be able to be played till the 16th/.

There are still many people in this country that don't have internet access.

It's not a bold assumption, but an assumption non the less. I would think valve would want access to all gamers...they're not that dumb. They must have some other way of validating a copy of HL2.

Even if the street date is broken and someone already has the game, they're not going to be able to play it. It must be authorized...it's that simple. Either Steam or some toll-free # to call. It will make a nice decoration for some of the sick-o's with their Christmas trees up already.

Whee! I got it. They were selling it in the store - no "in the back"-shit. And no, I won't be able to play it untill tuesday but I do have Counter-Strike Source already :)
Here are some screens (if you haven't seen enough of them already)

Steam frustrating me :p

IT'S THIS SIMPLE - YOU CAN'T PLAY THE GAME UNTIL THE 16TH!

VALVe knows exactly how many copies have gone out, because Steam logs all HL2 registrations.
